Overall, this is the best picture quality I have seen on any flat panel. Fantastic black levels and excellent color. I find the picture image to be a tad sharper than that produced by a plasma TV, which to me seems just a little softer. On a pure gray screen, you can notice a slight unevenness in the LED backlighting, but it is not really noticeable in regular viewing. I find the 3D as good as any flat panel and better than most. All others I have viewed tend to strain my eyes and give me a headache after 10 or so minutes. The Elite did not, though it did take my eyes a few minutes to get use to it. I have noticed an occasional minor flickering when a scene changes from bright to dark, like the Elite is trying to find the correct level. I will see one or two changes and then it settles down, all in less than a second. Being a professional photographer and very sensitive to color and light changes, I do notice these things. No one else in my family has seen it though. I do not consider this to be a problem at all as it is so slight in its effect. In a year of spending many hours looking at Pannys, Sonys, Sammys and the Elite, and reading every review I could find, I kept coming back to the Elite as being the best. My only regret is I wish I could have afforded the 70 inch!

This TV has the best picture we have seen and we also have a Pioneer Elite Kuro 50" TV. I didn't think any other TV could outperform the Kuro for picture quality. Well this TV does and it is stunning in 3D mode.
Right now this TV has not been calibrated. They are coming next Saturday to do the calibration. I can't wait to see the result.
So far Avatar in 3D has been the best movie for showing off what this TV can do. If you are looking for the best picture on the market right now, this TV is for you. Get it while you can. I have read that this set has been discontinued.

Got this T.V. to replace my 2008 pioneer kuro (which went in my bedroom). After getting it calibrated the picture is amazing. The only downside when you compare it to the old pioneer elite is the off angle viewing. When you start to go off angle the color gets a dull grey. I guess this is the case with all LED T.V.'s. Not to much of a problem because I always have the best seat in the house!

If you want the BEST TV on the market today, then hands down this is your tv. Purchased the 60 inch elite in middle of february and all I can say is, WOW!!! Right out of box, first thing I put on was HBO HD channel. Harry potter flick was on, and it is a pretty dark movie. The blacks on this tv are out of this world. Quality and very crisp picture, and sound is very good (not great). The only negative is the price. But if you can get the 60 inch elite for around $4000 and can afford it, get it now. 70 inch elites are gone ( I think ), 60's will be gone soon ( my opinion ). Did I say, " BEST TV ON THE MARKET "

I have both the Elite 60" and the Panasonic 65" VT50. Five days ago I received a replacement for my elite due to screen defect after a year use. I have had the VT50 for 9 months. Here's my impression of the two:
Overall the Panasonic is the winner. When fed the same signal from a good source (1080P), calibrated to their best setting, the VT50 is the better of the two. I invited total 20 people to look at the sets being fed the same signal, and 18 out of 20 thought the Panasonic was better.
The strength of the Elite is :
- extremely deep black level
- Excellent bright room performance
- Elite class customer service
- Great, bright 3D experience
- Energy efficient
The weakness of the Elite:
- suffers off angle viewing (not as bad as other LED set), but noticeable enough
- colors are not as saturated as on the plasma
- some flickering
- pricy ( for what its worth compare to other sets like the VT50)
The strength of the VT50:
- Cinematic quality with high definition sources
- Deep black level (not as deep as the Elite)
- Beautiful design - looks great in any room
- Better with broadcast content ( if all you want is watch cable TV, the VT50 is better)
- Better for sports viewing
The weakness of the panasonic:
- Not good in very bright room
- Not power efficient
- Customer service is not as good as the Elite's
Sound on both is average
Overall, based on best picture, I like my VT50 better.

I have had the Elite for about three weeks. I couldn't be happier with it, aside from the price. The picture is extraordinary, the blacks rich, the colors vibrant, and I haven't had it calibrated yet. One thing I wasn't expecting, but was thrilled to find out, is the quality of sound that comes from this TV. On my Sony (KDL55XBR8) the sound was pretty good, but there were times when I felt the need to turn on the audio receiver. As a result I bought a $300 soundbar. But now, with the Elite, I don't need it. The quality of sound coming from the Elite TV's own speakers is superior to the sound coming from my soundbar. The dilema is, now what do I do with the soundbar?
If I had to pick one thing that stands out on the Elite, I would say the black levels. They are absolutely astounding, to the point that I was distracted by the depth when I first starting using the TV. I have read that the black levels are better than for the previously made Kuro. I have never seen the Kuro's picture, but I would have a hard time imagining blacks any deeper than these.
Though I always sit directly in front of my TV I was actually surpised when I had to get something on the other side of the room and the picture did not significantly degrade as I got farther off angle. This is a huge improvement over my Sony KDL55XBR8.
I talked to a Sony rep at Best Buy a few months ago when I was getting "the itch" to buy a new TV. I was frustrated to find out that (according to the Sony rep) the HX929 was not a step up in quality from the XBR8. I said, "It's been almost three years. You mean to tell me that in three years Sony has not come out with a better TV?" He advised me to stick to my XBR8. I was astounded. Then I heard about the Elite at Best Buy a couple weeks before they came out. I talked to two of the sales people and they were both excited about the new Elite's coming out. When they came in a couple weeks later I knew I had to have one. So if you have a KDL55XBR8 and you want a TV that is better, with better picture, sound, black levels, and motion enhancement (and you have the money), this is your TV. You won't regret anything about the purchase...other than the price.

If you have the money for a top of the line TV set, look no further. The Pro*0X5FD has a picture quality that is absolutely stunning.
FACT: It DEFINATELY has a darker contrast then a plasma TV, this TV is giving me more glare issues than my plasma did.
If you love the vibrance of the LED's but the contrast of the Plasma this tv is for you. Sharp did an incredible job with this TV. Im sorry this TV does not have a better refresh rate than plasma, this native 120hz tv handles motion better than any other LED i've seen. The viewing angle is also not as good as a plasma, but if you are spending this much on a TV, why would you sit on the sides as opposed to directly in front where you can enjoy the fruits of you labor? If your in the Market this is the Best Display offered to date, quit comparing it to a discontinued display. Pioneer or not, The Elite heritage established a reputation of being superior than the competition, this is the best LCD/LED job well done!

Elite TV Is Best of the Best

Decided to update my tv from Vizio plasma 60" that is 4 years old that has performed flawlessly, but it didn't have the smart features you get today.
So I set out 2 weeks ago and my first purchase was a Vizio 65" led that I bought at a very good price but didn't like it. So I returned it and went to Best Buy to see what they had. I ended up getting a Panasonic 65" VT50 after reading the reviews on this set. Well I didn't like this one either
as the reviews from this site as well as Amazon were way over rated. Went back to Best Buy and was sitting in Magnolia Theater when Michele, a Best Buy supervisor, came over to me and asked can I be of
service to you. I told her that I wanted a TV that would blow me away and she said the best TV we have is Elite 60 or 70 inch. Well as you probably know these TV's are high end and rather pricey. So I ended up getting the Elite 60" and it was delivered today by Geek Squad. Well blown away is what I got. I have never seen a picture that this TV gives you. Anything in true 1080 HD comes in as good or better than Blue Ray. Right out of the box, after the Geeks left, I made some basic picture setting adjustments and WOW!! Watching the Cavs tonite I felt like I was sitting right there at Gund Arena in the first row. Yes this TV is expensive but you certainly get what you pay for. In fact I am going back to Best Buy and exchange it for the 70." Yes, I have spent more that I planned on spending for my new TV but it is worth every penny. Some reviews of the Panasonic VT 50 said that is was comparable to the Elite, but I can tell you that it isn't even close. So if you want the very best money can buy, then get the Elite while Best Buy has these sets marked down off retail price. Oh, one more thing, don't be duped into buy those expensive HDMI cables because I have a $20 set hooked up and the picture is movie theater quality. I also have a Sony Blue Ray player to go with my Elite, model number is BDPS 590 and together with my Elite TV my system is out of this world. One more thing, I got a 27 month parts and labor warranty as well as a toll free customer service number to call if there are any issues. I opted not to spend the money for Geek Squad warranty.

Great TV overall, blacks are as deep as they get, rich colors and so on. Big negative besides the price is the viewing angle - its not that great, starts getting washed out at about 45 degrees.

I have done an exhaustive amount of research and traveling to view different televisions. This is by far the best display I have seen, save the crazy 20k Runco. The cost is high yes, but if you are after an amazing picture this will not disappoint. I have been watching this tv for about for about 4 months and had it calibrated recently. I would suggest spending the money for good cables. I mean in for a penny in for a pound, right. Definately pleased with this investment.

Good LED/LCD

Pioneer sold the Elite name to Sharp but the Pioneer Elite Kuro was a Plasma TV so most of the engineers went to Panasonic.
The best pictures are still Plasmas. LED/LCD TVs are either side lit or back lit. The cheaper, side lit LED/LCDs have all of the light generated from the sides. The higher end Back lit LED/LCDs can locally dim the light by dimming the LED lights throughout the back of the TV. Plasma TVs modulate the light from each of the millions of individual pixels. So, to date, LED/LCDs cannot match the color or picture quality of Plasma TVs.
So this TV is not even the best TV made today.
I do believe the Sonys from 3 years ago are as good as the Sony TVs today. Two years ago the Wall Street Journal reported that virtually the entire Sony TV development budget was going into 3d technology. So there isn't much emphasis on picture quality.
But, the Pioneer Kuros are better than the best Plasmas made today. They are certainly better than any Sony that was ever made. Very simply, the really amazing thing is that Pioneer made the Kuro Elites at all. The technology and quality control made them cost prohibitive.
The Pioneers were $7000-$7500 when they came out. Even today there isn't much of a market for a $7500 TV. They were that good though and worth every penny.
So, these Sharps are good TVs for today. I recently needed a TV so I went shopping and was astonished at the poor picture quality of the current TVs. Most people want a $800 60" inch TV so they get what they pay for. I think the Sharp compares well with that garbage. But, make no mistake, they don't come close to the Pioneer Kuro Elites. Nothing yet does.
On the plus side LED/LCD TVs use less energy. But then so does a flashlight.
