Sturdy printer, but not great for photos. Otherwise it is a workhorse for just normal everyday printing.

I bought this printer a short time ago. It worked fine with an easy setup. THEN I switched internet providers and NOTHING I do can make it connect! I've tried customer support and I get sent to a call center in the Philippines to people's le who read from a playbook and know nothing about IT. Evidently there is no way to reach anyone in the company for help. If I had read the horrible reviews online about Epson Customer Support before I bought this printer, I would NEVER have made this purchase! :(

Uses too much ink but I love the convenience of printing 12x12 at home. Also very slow printing almost 10 mins depending on the layout. And no airprint feature.

excellent photo printer for the enthusiast

This is a very high quality, affordable printer for the hobbyist photographer. Yes, you can get better overall image quality with a higher end pigment printer but these generally run at least triple the price of this printer. The one possible drawback to this printer is that it uses only one black color, while the Pixma pro 100 uses one black and two greys, so if you do a lot of black and white printing, you might consider that printer (or a higher end pigment printer). But, I have found that printing B&W on matte paper produces outstanding prints for home use (I probably wouldn't sell a B&W print made on this printer). I have owned this printer for several years now, and have been satisfied with every print. No clogging issues despite often not printing for 3-4 months at a time. Colors are vivid and have lasted well, even with several prints on the wall in my house that are in significant sunlight. I have found printing via WiFi to be erratic, and print via USB. Definitely worth the price.

Doesn't come with Adobe PS Elements

I had so many problems with this printer from setting it up to printing. I had to return the first one I had received due to it printing out what looked like barcodes only. Didn't come with Adobe PS elements I contacted Best Buy through email I was told to return it (which I did) they were supposed to ship me a label THEY NEVER DID. So I had to waste time and go in store. They reordered me another one, and it still didn't come with Adobe PS. Stan whom I spoke to through email Best Buy customer care was no help at all. Never got back to my emails.

This printer is ridiculously slow. Even on draft mode, it prints one page in about 3 minutes . . .

Very nice printer

This is a very nice printer, prints are deep and rich with color, I bought this to replace my canon ix6520 which I became unhappy with the 5 minute nozzle cleaning every time I wanted to print, the Epson 1430 prints blow away the ix6520, when I compared the same photos from each printer, the canon ix6520 prints look like they have a haze to them and the colors are duller and aren't deep and rich like the Epson. The only down side to this printer is best buy only carries the black, magenta, cyan cartridge pack. I printed in color 8 11x14 prints and 200 4x6 prints on the best photo setting and it used half of the light cyan, light magenta, and yellow. Not to bad at all for these ink guzzlers these days. I print from lightroom 5 and found that I needed to use perceptual and not relative to get the right colors, as my daughter had a blue shirt on in a picture and when I used relative it came out purple. I have not printed a black and white picture as some people have said it doesn't print black and whites well. I will have to come back and update my post when I do. This printer does print well with canon papers, inkpress is lovely, and great with Ilford paper. I seen somewhere someone said it didn't print with Ilford paper well at all and I can tell you this is not true, I used the best photo setting along with the Epson premium glossy icc profile for both the ilford smooth pearl and inkpress luster and the results were perfect.

I've had this printer for about 4 years now....
First off, the print quality of this machine is excellent. My father has an EPSON 800, and while that printer produces better images, you would be hard pressed to notice in most cases. Printing in B&W, the 800 is better. The 1430 tends to show slight magenta even if printing greyscale. Noticeable in direct comparison with prints from the 800, but I'm not sure one would otherwise notice.
For the price of the machine the 1430 is a bargain and a great printer for the hobbyist photographer.
Some things to consider:
WIFI is finicky- sometimes a print will fail at 90% complete via wifi, this happens enough that I connect via dongle to the printer when I print. Sometimes it still stops, even when hardwired. This is not only a waste of time and ink, but of expensive photo paper, especially 11x17 and 13x19 paper.
The printer itself is inexpensive, but the ink is not.
I have not had the issues where doing a nozzle clean or cartridge change uses 20% of the remaining ink in the other cartridges while it cycles through this process, although it does use more than a normal amount of ink for this.
Printing is slow, but it is worth it for the quality you get.
The system is resistant to nozzle clogging. Since I've owned this printer, twice it has sat for more than a year, and after running one test and one nozzle clean after these extended periods, it performed flawlessly. This is using EPSON inks, I cannot speak for aftermarket inks.
It's not small, but no printer capable of 13" wide prints is.
You cannot use a roller feed on this printer.
I have used art papers successfully with the 1430.
Definitely a great value, just be aware that ink will cost more than some other entry level 'enthusiast' printers. If you find ink on special, buy in bulk.

Great photo printer

This is a great printer for photos, that's why I purchased it. This printer prints just what is on your monitor. The wifi connection is so-so. My electricity went off yesterday, as a result I needed to re-install with CD. I also purchased a continuous ink system, it is more economical but ink is not exactly like the Claria ink that originally came with unit. When I need to order ink I will buy as close to Claria ink refills as I can get.

Nice printer but has 1 minor issue

This printer does a decent job, great photo printing, I like the idea you can close it up when not in use to keep dust out and off paper feed rollers. The only thing I suggest is buying a USB printer cord as it does not come with one. I needed one because the printer does not do wireless very well. It's only a few feet away from my router and at times it doesn't print the whole page indicating signal loss and works very slowly. When connected to USB cord it does fine. For this I'm taking away 1 star. I also have an Epson Workforce all in one printer that works well using wireless, go figure.

I am so SO frustrated with this printer. Everytime I print I have to mess around with it so much just to get it to work! It constantly says "unable to write data" and will fail to print. I have spent SO much on ink cartridges thinking they were the problem. I am so upset with this purchase! Even when I DO GET IT TO WORK, it will print partially and then spit the page out like the picture I attached. VERY FRUSTRATED CUSTOMER!
