Great Printer for a Great Value

My husband and I bought this Multifunction Printer/Scanner/Copier aftering discovering that our old printer would not work with Windows Vista. Even though we were reluctant to purchase any printer, we are extremely happy with this item. It prints and copies very quickly. The resolution it is capable of in both copies and scans is amazing for the price point of the unit. The navigation on the printer itself with both the buttons and LCD screen are very easy to use and understand. Installation was also a breeze. It took five minutes from the time we took it out of the box to the time we were up and printing. The cons are that it is a little noisy compared to our old printer. Also, the tray in the front where the prints comes out seems a little flimsy. We're had trouble sliding it in and out after use. That could be a spot problem with our printer though and not consistent on all units. We would buy this printer again and recommend it to others.

    WORST INK CARTRIDGE EVER

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The ink cartridges on this printer are separte, so you do not have to change all colors when one is empty...HOWEVER, the printer will not work at all when any one of the cartidges are empty. I was printing some black and white documents and after 100 warning messages that day that I should buy black ink soon I went out and bought a cartidge just before the store closed. Came home printed about 2 more pages of black and white pages and was notified that the Yellow was empty. Even though the black was full and pristine, nothing will print! You get two options...stop trying to print or buy from epson online and then stop printing until it comes in the mail. Epson Help FAQs suggest that you should keep plenty of cartidges of all colors on hand so you are prepared for when this happens. BOO! The printer is also VERY LOUD. It scares my baby. When it does print, scan, etc. The quality is excellent. You decide if it is worth it. :)

    Very Happy With This!

I bought this over 2 months ago. It was very affordable and it's easy to use. I have to scan documents every couple weeks & now I don't have to run to the post office or library every time I need to make copies! I have read other people complain about the ink running low right after they got this. I use it A LOT and mine still have ink! Also, I haven't had any problems with it being loud at all. Of coarse, I'm sure there are better printer/scanners out there, but for the price of this one, and the uses I need it for, I'm very happy with it.

Great Printer for the home user

I bought this printer since it was on sale and cheaper than buying the 6 ink cartridges my older printer needed. Not only did I get a better quality printer, I also got a scanner and copier. Some reviews say it's loud, well for me it is quieter than my previous Epson, and it also prints out a lot faster. Even though my other Epson used 6 cartridges the quality of the printed items comes out better on this printer using only 4. The other two cartridges were light cyan and light magenta. I also see that in a lot of the reviews people say it won't print if one cartridge is empty, well that's the way it is on a lot of printers, at work our $7000 printer does the same thing. One nice thing I like about this printer is that the standard ink cartridges (69 series) are cheaper and they also have an alternative moderate use cartridge (88 series) and for black have a high capacity cartridge (68). So if you don't do a lot of printing, you can buy cartridges with less ink in them for a few dollars less and avoid the risk of them drying out.

    Good Printer for the Price!

Nice printer, easy to share printer over network, the software cd actually works! (I have had other printers/devices where I have had to get their software from their webpages due to the cd not working) Good picture quality and good printing speeds for the price! Options to minimize the sound in printer settings (basically prints everything slower). Good buy!

    Awesome Printer!!

I was looking for a printer since I started college, and didn't want to spend a fortune. I originally was looking at a Canon but when I got to the store and saw this one, I saw it has an LCD screen for PC-free printing and slots for memory cards for only $20 more so I grabbed it. I'm very pleased with it, it prints great (and quietly after the initial paper grab) and the photos look like lab-quality prints!! I also like that their are 4 ink cartridges (black, magenta, yellow and blue) so if you run out of a certain color you can replace only that color and not the whole cartridge!! Makes sense!! The cartridges are cheap too!! Great printer, I'd definitely buy it again!!

    Loudest Printer EVER

I got this printer on sale Memorial Day. The price was about what it would cost to put ink into the thing which I wont do. Its just as expensive to by a newer better printer than refill the ink in this one. The picture/print quality is good. You can't print pictures on the printer though as it is very grainy. The printer is very very loud and very slow at printing. You have time to wait for something to print out than you are okay but there is no option for fast printing. Would not recommend.

Prints nice photos, but makes computer crash!

Worked great for about 2 weeks, then suddenly I cannot turn off computer, printer, or disconnect printer without computer crashing. Happens every time now. Could be a Vista SP1 issue, but Epson product support has not been helpful. Online support specialists will only refer me to their FAQ webpage, and will not address the issue. Note: printer can be used independent of computer, but only for printing photos, no text documents. Buyer beware!

    Not ipressed with NX400

Mainly bought this printer for college to replace my previous Lexmark X83. Not too ipressed with it. The printer is loud and noisy while it prints. The SD card will only read pictures, no documents. The plug cord is very short. There is no usb cable included and on top of it it's very hard to pin-point and plug the usb end in the back. Printing quality is average. Documents print out good but pictures do not come out of professional quality, if you not careful the ink smudges easily. Im thinking I might have to exchange this printer for a couple bucks more to an Epson Artisan 700, which includes wireless printing and double-sided printing which I think will become handy with all my college work and more.

aside from the initial grabbing of the paper being loud this is a great printer. I wanted to test the quality of the photo prints so i took a kodak printed picture and printed the same one on this printer. It was great. I could barely tell the difference. The scanner works well also. for the price this is a great printer.

    What a Machine!

A great printer if your on a modest budget and want a machine that is reliable and easy to set-up. It prints a black and white sheet in 5 seconds flat, color a bit longer. I've had it for 2 months now and no problems so far! The only downside is the size is a little obtrusive, but if you have ample desk space that this printer is for you!

this printer is a good printer if you are using it for school related stuff. the only thing i dont like is when it grabs the paper, its really loud and annoying. if they made this printer less noisy it would be an EXCELLENT printer. but because of the noise im not sure how i recommend this. oh, the print quality for basic pictures for school projects is great.---dont know yet for actual pictures

I will never buy Epson again.

This printer uses smart chip ink cartridges, they only print a certain number of pages before they say they're empty, even if they still have ink in them (you can't refill epson cartridges either). It uses color ink to print in b&w (the option to disable this does not help). This printer is too loud to use if somebody is sleeping in the next room. You can buy refillable ink cartridges but you cant stop it from using color ink, and it wont print in black if the color cartridge in empty or removed. I spent $45 to replace the ink the first week I had it.

The worst printer I have ever used

I am surprised Epson let this one off the factory lines. The first NX400 we purchased immediately started banding, so we exchanged it for another one. The second one was unable to recognize the cartridges, even though it was a brand new factory sealed printer with Epson cartridges. It was a good thing the problems happened immediately, though, because I wouldn't want to be stuck with this machine.

    Aweful Printer

I bought this and returned it- it's an awful printer! It didn't print right from the beginning- poor quality. After printing 4 pages, only one of which was color, it said that the printer cartridges were already low. It is RIDICULOUSLY loud- it actually woke the baby up! Scanned pictures also weren't very clear. While it may have been low priced, it's CHEAP and not worth it all!

    Great Home Printer

I spent $49.00 on this printer for my home usage (homework, bills, reservations, etc) and it is perfect. The printouts are clear, the color is good, it works fast, my kids (9 and 11) can use it better than I can, it takes memory cards, and has an excellent scanner. Absolutely worth every penny in this house and has performed every function quite well. It's great the the ink cartridges are separate so you only replace what you need, but as in ALL printers - they are too expensive.

This printer has great picture quality until you run out of ink having 4 seperate ink cartriges suck. We only had one cartrige low so we bought another one but if one is too low you cant print they all have to be full plus the price to buy refills is half the price of the printer

I wanted to replace my old scanner, and I ended up getting this one instead. So far.. the scanner works great, and the prints are outstanding. I normally get my prints done through online sites, and the prints are comparable. I am sure the prints are slightly more expensive with the printer (paper and ink), but I get it right away :) Make sure you get either plus quality or premium quality paper for photos.
