Fun, if you liked Fallout 3 this is perfect.

I had a lot of fun playing through New Vegas, I beat the game but i just want to go back and do more of the side missions and try a new path! It's great how you can chose who you want to side with, Vegas, the NCR, the legion, or be a "wild card" my first time through i was going to go wild card but i encountered something (no spoilers) and i switched to Vegas and it was great! For people who beat Fallout 3 on at least normal difficulty i suggest playing this on hard or harder, also the hardcore mode is pretty intense. With a large variety of weapons armor and items there is so much you can do, it took me somewhere around 40 hours to beat it and i did very few side missions i didn't even explore 50% of the locations! The one problem i had was a couple of glitches now and then but with Bethesda releasing patches there shouldn't be any real problems. Great game highly recommend it, and if you do get it one of the best "Wow" moments for me was in Vault 11

It's getting better with the fixes

After Fallout 3 I just had to get Fallout New Vegas. Lots of new things and some fun surprises. It might be my setup but the first few days the freezes and glitches and crashes had me to the breaking point. Then some fixes came out and the game play became fun again. I love the gun mods and the ammo choices, I wish they had set up the inventory into catagories so that trading would be easier, but other than that I love it. I would have given 5 stars but it needs fixes.

    Wonderful Adventures In The Wasteland

PC version is great fun. This is more than a worthy successor to Fallout 3. Within minutes Fallout New Vegas will start to work a spell on you and lead you into a journey through an enormous and varied desert wasteland. You create your own character and nothing in the game is necessarily linear. You can go where you want, do what you want, be who and what you want. The music is spectacular. More thrills, great non player characters, wonderfully violent action, and a unique setting in a future desolated Las Vegas and its' desert surroundings should keep you busy way into the new year. This PC version uses the Steam client and it works great. The Steam client will install itself easily and does not intrude upon you , your files, or your life in any way, Steam is a better way to purchase downloaded content than some other games offer. Bethesda has issued a patch to fix all the little things that buyers were complaining about when the game was released. A famous singer plays "Mr. Vegas" the host of one of the radio stations and he is excellent. He adds a great deal to the game and he recorded hours and hours of dialogue for his role.

Great follow-up to Fallout 3... Similar play style with a lot more tweaks built in to the gameplay. I gave it 4/5 largely due to some "buggy" issues. It does not play nice with my HT Striker 7.1 sound card (causes periodic system lockups) and there are some strange issues with Directx 10. However, I find the game entertaining and great fun. The only actual game complaint I have is the profusion of foul language. Yes, it may be more "realistic" but to a large part is quite unnecessary IMHO.

    Great Story, Average Graphics

If you're the type of gamer that's wants cutting-edge, mind-blowing graphics, then this isn't the game for you. But if you want a great story and want to feel totally immersed in a game, this is it! It uses the same graphics engine as Fallout 3, but the story is just as rock solid! And it continues the great Fallout tradition of having great music as part of the gameplay. The graphics may not be photo-realistic, but I haven't jumped in my seat when surprised by a Ghoul or having a Nighkin uncloak in front of you since the original Doom! This is a great game for the money!

    Same but Different

For fans of the Fallout series, this game will come as a welcome addition. Graphically the game is not expanded on from Fallout 3, though there are hundreds of beautiful models that have been added to the game. The game itself provides hundreds of hours of replay value with the reputation and karma systems, as well as the different perk/traits you can take at the beginning of the game and upon levelling up. The game isn't without its drawbacks however, as it is very buggy. On the last update the game received the save feature did not work properly, killing several hours of play in the game. It was quickly corrected, but was still frustrating. I would expect future patches to address the numerous bugs (ex: creatures or people spawning in walls, or strange pathfinding issues for NPCs). Overall an excellent game for Fallout vets and newbies combined.

With shadows of the prior game this one builds even more on the post apocalyptic story of survival. More weapons, more items to find and a pretty involved plot, you can be a bad man or a good man or something in between but some where in the game you have to make some hard choices (thank god for game saves to ummm reverse bad decisions). I love the geckos so cute till they run up and try to take you apart. With the improved aiming system you do not need VATS to do everything for you so you can get even more of a feel of first person shooter while still having to use your head to get around and interact with a ton of different people. Better have a good video card, seems to work fine in a Windows 7 environment. Get it, play it, love it!

If you liked Fallout 3 then you will like New Vegas. New characters and new story, plenty of world and content to keep you buys. Faction system makes things interesting as action have more impact on the world. Unfortunately the PC version is very buggy, I expect to see some patches out soon, also If you are using Steam to sync your save files, make sure you don't rely on autosave and quicksave only. There is a bug where steam will bring down an old set of saves, losing your current ones. Standard save from hitting escape is safe and the overwritten auto and quick saves actually get backed up on your local PC so you can restore them.

New Vegas is Fallout 3 in the desert. I'm a little disappointed, it seems more like Obsidian just took what Bethesda gave them and made it way more complicated, with ammo types, etc. I tried to take a walk north out of the starting town and got wasted by some giant wasps like ten times. The weapons system takes some getting used to, and guns that may have been useless in FO3 are awesome to have (10 mm Submachine Gun for example.) There are glitches with the different factions, and even if a faction tries to kill you, it still gives you bad karma to loot their hideouts... lame. You can aim down the sights on your weapons now, which is fun, and VATS is pretty much the same. You can mod certain weapon types with scopes and other equipment. There are some major glitches, though, so before you buy, go on the web and search the forums for people with a similar hardware setup as you to see if they are having any issues. There are some save-game issues as well, so be sure to hard save your game (don't just use quicksave.) Overall, a fun game so far. The AI isn't very smart still, but people still explode just like you are used to.

Gift for my Son. Interesting series. Does have adult language, situations and graphic gore so not appropriate for small children. Was on sale during Holiday so was great value. Has an actual storyline so makes the game interesting.

For anyone who enjoyed playing Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas shouldn't disappoint. While the overall game-play from Fallout 3 is mostly intact, new features such as the companion system, the health/aid system, reputation, gambling, crafting and weapon modding to name a few have been added/changed. The wastelands this time around are also MUCH more merciless, at first at least as the majority of the "new" weapons feel insanely under powered compared to even the Fallout 3 weapons that you can find in New Vegas. Coupled with the bugs currently plaguing this game, the mix can, and probably will, end in the familiar Fallout death scene... luckily this doesn't seem to happen often enough to make the game unplayable... just frustrating at times. Problems aside, this game is still extremely entertaining and there are enough side-quests and locations to keep you busy for hours. Being a sandbox game you shouldn't ever get the feeling that this game is on rails (well, at least not until near the end of the game), just make sure that you can fend off the local critters to the areas you are exploring! A word of warning though for those on slower or download threshold limited Internet connections: Fallout New Vegas REQUIRES Valve's STEAM application to run. Don't know why... maybe overall laziness or someone just couldn't resist adding DRM to the game... but they did necessitate the use of an application that requires online authentication to run a SINGLE player only game... if you have a fast connection where large downloads aren't a problem this won't (shouldn't) be an issue for you... otherwise, please note the following: * Steam does NOT give you a choice of WHEN or IF managed games are patched. If you're online and you want to run the game, you ARE downloading any updates you don't already have. * Offline mode won't help if you haven't already installed the game, you're still stuck downloading all updates until you game is current. * Offline mode won't work forever: you will eventually be required to switch to the online mode to re-authenticate. * Update settings are a little misleading. Once an update is available you can elect to have STEAM automatically download it, or you can elect to choose when updates are downloaded, so long as you update said game before running it. Patching is admittedly simplified, a little on the draconian side, but any effort you might have had to put into patching is removed (provided nothing goes wrong during an update push). So, in short, this single player game is basically an online-only game. If you don't have access to a high-speed Internet connection don't bother with this game.

Great Game That Crashes a Lot

    Posted .

Overall this game is awesome. Wide open areas and it makes it a lot of fun to explore the world. No level restrictions and unless you pay attention you can get into an area where you'll get into trouble very quickly unless you pay attention. Very immersive story line and a lot of cool NPC characters to interact with. There are some problems though. I keep having random crashes during the game. I can't figure out what will cause it to crash, but it happens a lot. Sometimes I can't even get the game to start properly all the time, the load screen will crash on start-up. I've also encountered a few missions that I couldn't complete because I had already explored an area before and may have taken a trigger item or accessed a computer that was supposed to be locked for the mission. So, overall I love this game and spend way too many hours playing it. My wife isn't sure if I'm in the house because I'm gone playing it so much. A must buy if you like this RPG, FPS, RTS style game.

Great game better than the last. main drawback is that like three the core story line is short. also at late levels everything but certain side quests get easy even on "very hard." The karma system is way over balanced, actually hard to get evil. you can lose faction standing easily even by accident but overall karma's always ending up good. overall good game though, hope for some really good dlc particularly somthing like broken steel that will add to the story line rather than just extra mid-game quests.

For fans of Fallout 3, this is an awesome follow-up. There is absolutely no reason not to buy this game and lose yourself in the New California Republic wastelands for another 200+ hours. New enemies, new weapons, interesting storylines...more of the same, and thats a good thing. My only gripes about the game are as follows: Need one more fast travel point on the Strip. Lots of unnecessary walking. Wish the inventory system would let you designate certain items as "permanant inventory items" or whatevrer. You just have to look through sooooo many items when unloading your loot. No dart gun. How am I gonna slow down them Deathclaws and Super Mutants? Most aid items only last a few seconds. You can make a lot of cool new items with the campfire feature, but few of them are worth the trouble to lug the ingredients around. I want to be able to tell my companions "don't shoot!!" and have them obey. I want to kill all the baddies myself, not fight my companion for the kill, which is tough when he seems to have uncanny accuracy and headshoots baddies that I cant even see yet. But make no mistake...I LOVE this game. Four thumbs up.

Everything you love about Fallout 3 and then some. Great game, I recommend it to any FPS / RPG fan. The open concept and multiple storyline paths give it a great replay value. You can complete the entire game, plus the majority of the side quests and still not even come close to exploring the entire map. Get this game.

fortunately they dont seem to have some of the bugs that plagued the first release of fallout 3 , but then again this is the same game engine ... they fixed the bugs already . modders should love this . im still playing i'll let you know when i beat it. Note: the console commands are the same ....ALL of them so far also look for a downed vertibird in the north west to find the coolest gun in the game so far, the tesla cannon makes a comeback!

The creators of Fallout never fail to provide full bang for the buck. It's a great game in every respect. You play at your own pace. There is always somewhere you haven't been, so there isn't a lot of repetition in the gameplay. There is a reason Fallout 3 was game of the year... and that characteristic is rampant in Fallout New Vegas as well. I would recommend this game highly!

This game is very much like the Original Fallout and Fallout 2, those who played and remember those games fondly will feel at home with this installment. However, if you started with Fallout 3 the game will still feel very familiar to you. Honestly in my opinion this is the best Fallout game yet.
