    Best Horror Drama! FTWD!

Robert Kirkman sure did shake the industry with his excellent graphic novels and executing it perfectly to a TV show, make that two TV shows! I love how there's nothing tacky or phony about it, it feels so dark and serious which i love! 2 guns up for Robert Kirkman and pulling off the "infected/dead/zombie" genre, i hope it lasts as long as it can! **Spoilers Ahead** There was a lot of buzz surrounding the companion series and prequel to AMC's wildly popular The Walking Dead. Was it worth the hype though? Absolutely! Fear the Walking Dead's premiere snagged an staggering 13.96 million viewers, the highest ranked debut of a cable series ever. By the show's 3rd episode, that number had dropped to 11.6. Still an impressive feat for a show's debut season. All the buzz hits a boiling point in the first season finale. People complained that the show's debut season, comprised of 6 episodes, moved at too slow of a pace, but people seem to be forgetting that Fear the Walking Dead is set during the early stages of Kirkman's zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead didn't pick up the pace until the show's third season. Showrunners Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson had to take a new approach to a storyline that we've all become accustomed to having seen 5 season's of The Walking Dead. We, as viewers, are witnessing the beginning of the apocalypse through the eyes of a dysfunctional blended family, even more dysfunctional than The Walking Dead's Grimes family. Keep it coming Robert Kirkman!

Is this The Walking Dead? No. The only similarity is it takes place in the same world and shares parts of its name. Other that that, Season One should not be compared to The Walking Dead. Travis is a dolt and my least favorite character, until the season finale that is when I believe the events that happened have woken him up. He will be a changed man in Season Two. The rest of the players have their ups and down and I can see potential parallels to The Walking Dead characters as they grow and are forced to change. We like our characters on The Walking Dead because we see how aware they are of the threat, how to survive, go on runs, take down walkers but would we have liked them if we met them during the "Fear" stage? Maybe some of them. Maybe none of them. In Fear, we see a modern day family just trying to get through the day when inexplicable things start happening around them. Like most people would be, they are in denial of what's happening, put blind faith and trust in the government and military and are more than happy to let other people control things while they sit behind a fenced in town under martial law. The focus is on this one family (and the people that have been sort of adopted by them as well) and how they come to terms with society breaking down and less on the walker effect. Could they show downtown L.A. being overrun by walkers gnawing on people for six hours? Sure. But that's not where the "fear" really lies. The "fear" is, how do I get food, water, am I safe at home, do we stay, go, wait for help, do it on our own, what's really happening, is anyone in charge, and so on. When society collapses, the fear is not the visible decomposing flesh-eating former humans walking the streets. It is the fear in what can't be seen, controlled or known. Going into this show, that is what I anticipated and that was what I received. With that said, I cannot wait for Season Two!

    Prequel to the Walking Dead

Anchor Bay Entertainment has detailed the Special Edition Blu-ray release of Fear the Walking Dead: The Complete First Season. The series premiered in August 2015, becoming the #1 show in cable history. The 2-disc Special Edition set features collectible lenticular packaging and hours of new bonus content, including deleted scenes, newly produced featurettes and audio commentaries for every episode. Street date is March 22nd. Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in Los Angeles, a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens, Gone Girl) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis, Missing) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and the dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.

Why should you buy this when you already seen it or want to view it on a service. BECAUSE OF THE EXTRAS. This show is a perfect show and listening to the ext as enhances the view. I have met the stars of the original show and received some insight to the stories but how many people can attend comic con. This lets you know things you would never know about the actors and the show. I would have given it 5 stars but i would have wanted even more extras and possibly more about where the series could go. I would not have bought this but for a salesclerk who recommended it to me as a must buy. I was not lied to and I am glad I bought it. Please do the same.

This set contains bonus features not found on the original release. Multiple featurettes and the deleted scenes make this worth the extra cash for the avid Walking Dead fan. The slip case has a lenticular 3D cover on it, which is actually pretty slick. This is a nice little package for the first season of Fear the Walking Dead. The composition of the discs contents reminds me of how they handled the special edition of the Walking Dead season 1 blu-ray.

I love The Walking Dead, so I was curious if a spin-off would be able to add anything to an already interesting "walker" universe. I was pleasantly surprised that this show actually did just that. Not only does this story take you to the opposite coast of the country, but it also takes you through the earlier stages of the outbreak and with a different dynamic of characters. Some people were bored with this show, but I found it quite entertaining, as the writers obviously need to establish a good base for the story to jump from. I'm curious to see where it goes from here!

I already had this season on Blu-ray when I bought this, but there were two things that made me "double dip" on it, the cool lenticular slipcover, and all of the bonus features included with the special edition. I was not disappointed either, as the extras were very interesting, and I would definitely recommend picking this up if you're a fan of the show (or even if you're just a fan of The Walking Dead and have been considering watching Fear the Walking Dead). Of course it's not as awesome as TWD is (in my opinion), but I still really enjoy it, and I think they should make more spin-offs!

I hesitated getting this one because of the mixed reviews, but it's definitely worth checking out. This is a different show in tone and location. We have a big city (Los Angeles) instead of rural Georgia. But the real reason to get this if you're a fan of the original is because we get to see the actual breakdown of society as the apocalypse begins. We missed all that in the original because Rick Grimes was in a coma when this was happening! It's entertaining enough and there's definite potential for the characters and future stories.

    Riveting Horror

Fear the Walking Dead is a jolt of riveting horror that is a well done prequel of sorts to the superior The Walking Dead. It examines the zombie apocalypse from the earliest stages. This makes the show intense because we know what in store for the cast as they blindly stumble into the nightmare. My only complaint is that the main characters are mostly unlikable and at times you can find yourself hoping the Walkers win out. But the show is still a jolt to the nerves and shows more substance with a second viewing.

Fear The Walking Dead had quite a challenge trying to meet the lofty expectations of the current fanbase/watchers of the original Walking Dead TV Series...and many of them wanted to see how things broke down before meeting Rick and the gang...back when noone even knew anything about walkers...this is that story...but be warned, unlike Walking Dead, this series has a slow burn kind of buildup for the first 2/3s of the first season then REALLY picks up in the last two episodes...overall a good time and worth watching as long as you have the right expectations of this series...

i remembering watching this show for the first time and was not really into it. but after rewatching it a second time-it grew on me and was a fan. just how i was with the walking dead- had to watch it a second time before i became a big fan of that show. i bought the special version with the lenticular cover and bonus features. this season was just showing how the zombie apocalypse got started. the second season gets more involved. give it try. worth the watch. daniel salazar was my fav character-- played by ruben blades

Fear The Walking Dead had a short 6 episode first season like its parent show did.It does a good job setting up the main characters and the feel of what the zombie apocalypse was like at the start. Definitely pick up this second release. The first release was almost bare bones as far as special features go.This release is loaded with commentaries for every episode and great featurettes.

Big fan of the "Walking Dead" both the tv series and the comic. This show started off slow but improved steadily. Difficult to get into, because as a fan of the original you know more about what's happening than the individuals in the story. Building any suspense is tough for the show, but after a couple of episodes you're hooked. As for the technical aspects of the Bluray set; video is very good. Picture is sharper and clearer than the HD broadcast. Sound is so,so; not a lot to really challenge the surround system.

Overall the show is pretty good, but it did move a little quickly for those who were expecting a slower pace and more insight into how the Walking Dead universe came to be. Regardless, there were some quality moments and, especially after watching season 2, you kind of wish you could go back to a simpler time when things hadn't gotten that bad yet and people were still in discovery mode.

I'm SO happy that they released a Special Edition of this show. The show itself was amazing & though different in context, fits well w/ the world of The Walking Dead. The cast is great & the story is compelling. The extras in the Special Edition are nice. It gives a lot of background to the making of the series.

Pretty nice change up from your normal walking dead series. Was hesitant on their pre-acopolyse plot approach but found myself intrigued and addicted. Knowing how the world ultimately ends up, u get caught up with the character development and hoping that they get smarter at trying to survive. Also, seeing "fresh" zombies instead of emaciated ones add great suspense to the story.
