Wasn't a big fan of the leading actor/actress but gave it a shot. Since the time slot this movie represents was during my young era, it brought back memories of true struggle and how some overcame it and was forced to deal with it. Yes, all parents did not get it right but the ones that tried and gave it a second shot did some very marvelous things. This movie is about all of that!!

A has been ball player in the 1950s. who had big dreams that remained just that. Washington is middle-aged, works as a garbage man, has a loving wife (played by Viola Davis), two children and a house, a decent living by most standards, but Washington is unhappy. Unfulfilled dreams and bitterness he holds on to due to pain and suffering, and the constant repetition of his weekly routine year after year has taken a toll on him, making him do something that will threaten to destroy his marriage and everything he worked so hard to build.

Fences based off a stage play of the same name and acted by the same cast members; including Denzel Washington and Viola Davis respectively. Fences is a family drama centralized more so on characterization than plot and is a fast talking diatribe of an African American family trying to evolve in the 1950's. A wonderful character study! Denzel's direction of the film is a visual treat while the dialogue can make for a very uncomfortable experience...which is the films point! One of my favorite films of 2016. A must see.

If you like stage plays, you'll like this movie. In this drama, plot is secondary to monologs and dialogs, in which members of a working class African American family in the 1950s reveal themselves. This play looks at the inner emotional workings of a troubled father and the faithful wife and somewhat bewildered children who have to figure out their father.

Fantastic heart felt film that depicts the black experience in a world where the proverbial deck is stacked against you. Denzel Washington , yet again portrayed what many consider as a a true best actor-Oscar winning performance, yet was overlooked by his peers. Wonderful cast and will definitely be a film that will stand the test of time. Epic.....

The movie its self set at a hard time for people of color. This movie with it's language of the time, was the way it was. A very good movie for young adults. To see how we as a people do not want to ever go back to that way. The movie has a real good message about family dynamics, and there feelings. How family's are or could be. Picture quality was excellent, also the sound was spot on.I would highly recommend this film for young people to see. Especially to see how far we have come.

This was a great movie version of the August Wilson's stage play by the same name. Both Denzel and Viola gave Oscar winning performances ( but only Viola received an Oscar). Nevertheless, this will have to be considered a classic movie depicting the "black experience" that so many African-American families have experienced over many generations

An excellent movie to watch. I was at the edge of my seat watching this great movie with excellent actors and actresses in it. Job well done Denzell Washington, and Viola Davis. I tip my hat off for two excellent performers. Before watching the movie, I suggest that you have a box of tissues nearby, because you're going to need them.

How wonderful that the Broadway revival including it's entire cast are preserved on film in a remarkable adaptation of August Wilson's prize-winning drama. Viola Davis truly deserved her Oscar, yet the performances of the entire cast are on film as a record of their and the Tony winning performances on stage.by Denzel and Viola.

Truly an inspirational film. It is very deep and very well executed. Denzel gives a great performance as well as Viola. Being that the entire cast except the actor playing Denzel's son is from the original Broadway play everyone gives an unforgettable performance. I highly recommend this movie to any and everyone.

Fences is one of my favorite films of 2016. Based off the broadway play of the same name; Fences is a delicate character study. Denzel Washington directs the film marvelously. Viola Davis is pure genius and the true heart of the film. She was definitely deserving of her supporting actress win at the Academy Awards!

I saw this movie in the theaters with my Mom and she loved it. She loved this movie so much that I purchased it for her as a Mother's Day gift. I thought it was a great film too. The acting, directing, and storyline were great. This movie is more than good enough to watch more than once if you like doing that.

The performance by all the actors was outstanding. Was sceptical about the movie at first but quickly came to appreciate the content and was really moved by the life messages and the manner in which they were delivered. Highy recommend this movie and you will be tempted to watch it a second time. Maybe more.

A compelling story brought from the stage that strikes at the heart and tells what it was really like for this family in the late 50's. It also challenges at times to understand why some make bad decisions as they do. As usual Denzel was great and I can see why Viola Davis won an Oscar for her performance!

This movie took me back to my childhood days. It caused me to think of all of my elders and the stories told and love shared. The characters portrayed had me thinking of my Father, Mother, relatives and neighbors. It brought tears to my eyes several times over. A good movie for reflecting on days past.

Excellent movie. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are absolutely fantastic together. Being an African American, you could not only see, but you could also feel the intensity and emotions of this movie. Big stars up for the creator of Fences, Mr August Wilson, May he rest in Heaven. Terry D.

Good movie. Shows how we are influenced by our parents, family and environment growing up. Helps you understand we are all flawed, but we do not have to repeat the failures of the past. We have to learn to forgive our parents as well as ourselves. One of Denzel Washington's best performances.

Its tough to adapt a stage production to film and maintain the same intensity, but Denzel Washington did a commendable job. All round excellent performances, especially by Viola Davis. I love reading reviews by guys who said they stopped watching after 20 minutes because it was so boring. Sorry, but this isn't "Fast & Furious 12" so if that's your cup of tea, this won't be for you. This has acting in it.

Such a wonderful movie. There were spots where I wasn't sure what was going to happen as I did not read any reviews or see any previews for this movie. WOW...this was a fantastic movie and the chemistry between Denzel & Voila was off the charts. I will definately watch this several times.
