Tour de force performances by Davis & Washington
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ms. Viola Davis and Mr. Denzel Washington dominate the screen in this heart-wrenching depiction of the experiences of a Black-American family in the years after World War II. Mr. Washington portrays a proud and bombastic Troy Maxson along with his hidden insecurities of being underappreciated by white society while trying to provide for his wife, sons and brother. Ms. Davis is his long-suffering wife Rose who puts her heart and soul into keeping the family together despite the tempestuous relationships between father and sons and her ultimate betrayal by Troy. Ms. Viola Davis most definitely earned her Oscar. The remaining cast members - Stephen McKinley Henderson, Mykelti Williamson, Russell Hornsby and Jovan Adepo - also deserve kudos for their fine performances.

A Tour De Force!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The quality of the Blue Ray is as expected. But this Movie is a Denzel "Tour De Force!" Just and incredible movie, amazing script, extraordinary performances from Viola Davls and Denzel Washington. Washington also directed this and keeps true to the feel of the play. The script is powerful and driving, but the performance of the two principals makes this a Must See! It can be argued that Washington deserved the Oscar for his performance, but there is no argument about Davis. Viola Davis "Rules" and her Oscar is "Well deserved." This is a movie you will want to own.

I was the leading lady Rose in college...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Theater class, several years ago, selected me to play Rose (the leading lady that Viola Davis plays in this movie) so I bought it to put with my other memorabilia. These two actors have for the most part ALWAYS been strong forces in adding to a great theatrical experience. Therefore I am glad that they were able to blend their talents together to present this awesomely eye opening play; which has given on the stage (now to movie goers as well) a glimpse of Mr. Wilson's, work & another way of seeing struggles that were faced by many in the 1950's going into 1960's. Side note; August Wilson wrote this play & it actually went on to be the Winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. So job well DONE Viola & Denzel!

Oscar winning performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Denzel should have won the Oscar for his performance here (without disrespect to Casey who also played his part well in Manchester by the Sea). I really can't describe Denzel's acting in this film because it's so phenomenal. I know that I cannot cast any vote for the Oscar (plus it's too late, if ever). At least, I can send a message to Denzel, through this review, that he deserved another Oscar. Well, there is always a next year. By the way, this is a great movie. Viola and the others acted convincingly.

Who doesn't like Denzel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Denzel is one of our national treasures - I can't recall ever seeing a Denzel movie that wasn't good. And, in this case, as you watch his acting, the amount of dialog and interaction required by his character is immense. Rich characters and a reminder of how things were - and, as I recall, this was based on a stage play based on a story and, in that case, you have to fill the gap from Denzel's last scene to the final chapter of the movie as a stage lights out.

Amazingly great movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I finally got around to watching this movie. It had been a long day and right after it started my hubby said he wasn't sure if he'd be able to stay awake for the 2 hours to watch it. Even though there's very little "action", the acting is wonderful (especially Denzel and Viola, but the other performers do quite well too) and it kept our full attention the entire movie. He didn't have any trouble staying awake.

August Wilson would be proud
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Denzel Washington shows what's behind Troy Maxson's anger, while Viola Davis as Rose Lee Maxson shows what it takes to be with him through it all. Having seen the play before, it was nice to see it out in the open in the 'real world'...this in no way, to me, lessened the impact that it makes when seen on a live theater's cloistered stage set...the power of 'Fences' the 'play' is very present in this film. P.S. Denzel should have got that Oscar!
