Had we known this before going in, it would have saved a lot of resentment towards the writers. It started as a fantastic romantic film but 15 minutes left it took a hard u-turn to a (scratch-my-head) moment. First hour and 30min is romantic gold. For that, I'll say get it.

This movie doesn't deserve one star. The writing is on par with a 12 year old. The acting is awful, the story is awful. At least in adult movies(x rated variety) the actors attempt to act. This movie tries to be raunchy but is just dull and boring. My desires are.... Unconventional blah blah blah blah blah. Let's hope they cancel the other movies.

I had big expectations and very bored with the acting

Loved the movie, thought the actors were great and the soundtrack is amazing too! A little disappointed in this "special" packaging though. I don't like the cover photo or the metal case and you don't get any freebies/gifts like you do from other retailers. wish i would have bought it somewhere else.

Bought to replace my original copy since I have the whole set. As any book that's mad into a movie it's never as good.

I don't want to give anything away but I was fortunate enough to see an advanced screening of this film on Friday Feb. 6th in Los Angeles, and I have to say---if you are a fan of the book, the movie will likely NOT disappoint you. And if you're not a fan of the book and are simply CURIOUS, you might be surprised (and in a good way, I hope). As excited as I was to see Fifty Shades of Grey, I had reasonable expectations. And while it is not perfect (though, honestly, I wouldn't have changed much if given the chance), I felt like Sam-Taylor Johnson made an incredible film adaptation out of a wildly popular book that is some 500 pages in length---and with a restrictive R-rating, no less, for such an intensely erotic story. There is a lot missing from the book but the important stuff remains, and many favorite quotes are included. I think my greatest concern was with how the intimate scenes would translate on to the big screen, but they made it work and handled it with style and class. When you consider how man intimate moments are in this film (and there's a lot---as there should be), I never once felt that it was overdone or gratuitous. It pushes a few boundaries, yes; however, everything is done in an extremely tasteful way. What Sam created here is a stunningly beautiful, artistic film unlike anything I have seen before. The chemistry and steam-factor is prevalent from the start. One thing I really loved, though, was the unexpected humor throughout. I appreciated that counterbalance. When I wasn't holding my breath or generating heatwaves in my seat, I found myself laughing a lot---and for all the right reasons, I assure you. As a fan it was honestly everything I could have hoped for and more. Dakota Johnson embodies the innocent, virginal Anastasia Steele perfectly---and I so enjoyed watching her start off kind of awkward and shy and then blossoming into this confident, empowered young woman. And Jamie Dornan made an excellent Christian Grey. He exuded power and confidence (with an obvious need for control, of course), but with a pained vulnerability beneath a closely guarded steel exterior that Ana only begins to crack the surface of in this first installment. You will especially see his vulnerability in the final scene, which is actually quite heartbreaking. Not sure what the critics are going to make of this film but I know for sure that most fans are going to love it. And really, isn't that the most important thing?

I wasn't even shopping nor looking for anything in particular. This DVD caught my eye and having seen the original fifty shades of grey, I decided to purchase this one. No regrets.

I never read the books and I probably won't ever read them... and I only purchased the video for a lady-friend who was a serious fan of the 50 Shades of Grey series. We watched it together. I did it because I was curious about what all the hype was in regards to this movie... and I was being polite with my friend. But while watching the dvd I was pleasantly surprised by the movie - there was actually a love story going on. Plus, it was kinda funny in some parts! I've heard some people say that the actors didn't fit the characters in the book... but I thought they were good in their roles. Dakota Johnson was a charmer. This is another reason why I don't feel the need to read the book series. It may spoil my positive impression of this movie. So don't feel the need to be hung up on the books; to have to compare the two... just enjoy the movie for what it is - a Beauty tames the Beast sort of love story with some unconventional factors involved. If you're a romantic, and can get past the controversial aspects of the story, you'll probably enjoy this movie. I know I did.
