Easy Filtered Water Solution

I live in an area with pretty good water quality. Our water for the most part tastes pretty good and scores fairly well (per EWG’s Tap Water Database). The water still contains contaminants but are all eliminated by a carbon filter. This is where the Filtrete Standard Under Sink system comes into play. The standard system uses a carbon filter rated to 5 microns. Their marketing line is “Better tasting water,” and they advertise that the system reduces sand, soil, rust, and sediment to 5 microns. The whole system mounts under your sink and taps into your existing faucet piping. The whole install is pretty easy, especially if you have ever replaced a faucet.
The system comes with the filter mount, (2) 3/8” blue flexible water lines (about 2-2.5’ long each), 3/8” water supply line adapter, and 3/8” water supply fittings. As it comes packaged, the kit includes everything you need to hook up to a sink that uses 3/8” standard fittings. If your sink uses ½” supply lines then you will need to pick up a ½” to 3/8” adapter from your hardware store (a cheap part that runs a couple of bucks).
To do the install I started with the instruction manual which laid out all the steps. I shut off the water supply for my cold water at the ¼” turn supply shutoff under my sink. I opened my faucet up to let the water drain out into the sink as much as possible. I found a good location to attach the filter mount under my sink – good access to replace the filter and an easy route path for the supply lines. Keep note that you need at least 2.5” below the bottom of the filter to allow for easy removal – if you plan to upgrade to the Advanced or Max you need to leave around 5.5” since those filters are about 3” longer. Once this was mounted I disconnected the water supply from my faucet, letting it drain out into a bowl I had underneath. I connected the 3/8” water supply line adapter to the line going up to the faucet. From there I used the includes blue lines to press the tube ends into the appropriate fitting on the mount and to the supply line adapter. The last step was to assemble the fittings on the second blue line and attach it to the water supply. The other end of the line gets pushed into the remaining port of the filter mount. From here I tightened all of the fittings down, and then turned on the water. I let the water run for 5 minutes, per the manual, and check for leaks. Once it was good I closed everything up, and enjoyed a fresh glass of water.
A few things to note. If the included lines are too long you can cut them down. You will need a pipe cutter or a sharp utility knife to cut a flat and smooth face. It is critical that it is flat and smooth for the seals to work. Another thing when you got to replace the filter you need a bowl or towel underneath when you unscrew it. A small amount of water will leak when you first unscrew it. Last if you have trouble with getting your shutoff valve to actually shutoff then you will need to turn off the water to your house at the main. When I replaced my faucet my hot wouldn’t shut off, so I stacked another shutoff valve – threaded inlet style - on top of it instead of replacing the old valve (it was braised and I didn’t want to deal with that). I did this without shutting off the main since the old valve would slow the flow to a trickle – I just had to be fast with installing the new valve on top. Not the proper way, but it worked for me.
Speaking of water quality I do have to say I really like the taste of my original tap water. The mineral content was pretty good and it just had a good taste. The difference with the filter though is subtle, but really good taste. The mineral content is reduced for sure, which should help with the hard water buildup I get around my sink. I can taste the difference, and the water is smoother tasting. I also have a faucet that isn’t compatible with the traditional Brita screw on filters, so this was the only way for me to get a filtered water solution on my sink. Overall, I am happy with the taste, which is excellent. The install only took 15 minutes, and it looks like a pretty slick solution. The filter lasts about 6 months, and replacements are pretty affordable and easy to swap out. Also, my water flow rate did not appear to be impacted at all by the filter.

The Filitrete Under Sink Water filtration system was put in to replace our old costly rain water treatment system. Now I can't speak to the levels of each chemical in our water - but I can speak to the taste and clarity of the water. It is crystal clear and the taste is great. It was very easy for my husband to install and has worked great for us. We actually saw an increase in water flow in our dispenser. I would recommend!

THE BREAKDOWN:
This 3M Filtrete standard under-the-sink water filtration kit is super easy to install and maintain. Installation was very easy along with the step-by-step instructions. If you can use a screwdriver and wrench this project should be very fast and simple. All the items needed for the kit to work was included in the package.
This filtration filter is good for approximately 6 moths or 2,000 gal of water. After you install the filter you need to turn on the water and let it run for about 10 minutes to clear the filter and lines. To remove the filter is a simple quarter turn process. I have had zero leaks with this kit thus far. I did not see any decrease in water pressure after installing this product.
This product did an excellent job of filtering as I did not notice any off-tasting water. This filter is supposed to reduce chlorine taste & odor, sand, soil, silt, rust, and sediment (5 micron). It also maintains a flow rate of 2.25 gallons per minute.
PRO’s:
-Fast easy installation
-Had all the necessary parts to install
-No loss of flow rate
CON’s:
-None
SUMMARY:
Overall, this product worked well and as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

Cleaner Water, Easy DYI install!

The Filtrete - Standard Under Sink Water Filtration System 3US-AS01 - White brings cleaner, safer water to your home with their easy to install, DYI system. Get up to 6-months of clearer, fresher, and safer water straight out of your tap without the expense of a large water purifying system and professional installation.
I found this product to install very easily, in under 15 minutes. I only needed my power driver and a crescent wrench. The system fits nicely under my sink and left plenty of room for all the cleaners and things we normally keep there. I do not consider myself a plumber, but I have changes out sinks and faucets before so it was very basic to install.
The water, as expected, initially came out black due to the internal filter purge. After about 1 minute the water was clear and cold. I allowed about 5-7 minutes of free flow as directed to ensure the filter was full primed and ready for the water to be used. It tasted great. This is very good considering I would not drink water from out tap where we live and have too often clear the aerator on our taps from buildup and gunk. This bodes well for using our tap water without worry of what is coming through the lines!
PROS
- Brand recognition and quality
- Easy to find filter replacements
- Easy DYI installation (between 15-30 minutes)
- Solid construction and design for tight spaces
- Does what it claims - purifies and filters questionable tap water!
CONS
- None at this time! Glad we got this!!

Better tap water in minutes

The Filtrete under sink water filter system is a very inexpensive and simple way to improve the taste and quality of the water from your sink. I installed mine under the kitchen sink and I have noticed an improvement from the plain old tap water that came out. To be honest, I didn’t drink it much before since we have a filter system on our fridge that works pretty well, but I have compared the taste and it does make the tap water taste similar. Set up was a little frustrating for me, but that is not the fault of the kit itself…. directions are a little confusing, but I did a quick search on YouTube for the Filtrete installation and that helped me a lot. Most of my frustration came from the fact that I do not have much space under my kitchen sink and that is not the fault of this product. Once I got past the install frustration, everything else was good. The quick connectors are easy to install and just make sure they are pushed all the way in to prevent leaks. I did make that mistake on the water out tube. Everything you need for a standard install is included and you only need a drill, 3/18” bit, phillips head screwdriver, and a pencil to mark the location of where to mount the filter mount. Filters are good for about 2,000 gallons or 6 months and are not very expensive to replace, it is about half the cost of my fridge filter. If you are looking for better water out of the tap then I recommend you give this system a try, you won’t be disappointed.

The Filtrete standard under the sink water filtration system is a high-quality 3M product with fairly straightforward installation. However, I did have to improvise since I did not have or want to go buy an adapter due to a fitting being the wrong size. I was able to make things work by cutting off the end of a toilet water supply hose the end that connects to the bowl and then shove that up onto the copper tubing and secure it with a hose clamp. The system tucks away nicely and stays out of the way mounted to the side of the cabinet under our sink. The water tastes clean and pure to me right out of the faucet and I love the convenience of not having to fill up my water purification jug now. I have no water testing equipment but this filter seems to work well to me and is definitely worth the investment in my opinion. It is great to have purer water on hand to cook, make coffee and fill your pet's water bowls. I think this is something every family should have to minimize chemical intake from water supply systems!

I will admit that I watched a YouTube video of an installation before deciding if I could handle this myself. I was able to install this in about 10 minutes. The longes step was shutting the water off at the main in the basement because I could not turn the shut-off valve under the sink. The actual connecting of hoses was very simple and the directions are easy to follow. Just be sure to tighten down the compression nut to prevent leaks.
I have a seltzer maker and it tastes so much better now! Actually, it has no taste (as it should). I am sure my coffee will be better as well.
I am not sure how long the filter will last. I have researched the cost for the filters and they are almost as much as the whole system itself. I will look into alternatives for less expensive replacements.

In short, it will definitely make your water taste better. This is the “basic” model because it includes the basic Standard filter. 3M states: "Filtration reduces chlorine taste & odor, sand, soil, silt, rust, and sediment (5 micron) based on 3M Testing." There are two other higher grade Filtrete filters that work with the mount. So you are not restricted to the exact Filtrete filter that came with the system.
Installation wise, it’s pretty straight forward if you follow the instructions. However don’t count on it being that simple in every case. The “less than 30 minutes” 3M quotes must be for a perfect modern faucet installation that was done correctly and used PB, PE or PEX (plastic water lines to faucet). If that happens not to be the case then you can forget 30 minute installation. That was the case with me over something seemingly simple. More on that later. Product comes with a filter, mount (filter head bracket) basic mounting hardware and minimum plumbing supplies for the most common and simplest installation.
Before you start installation of this product, look over the instructions and look closely at the plumbing connecting your faucet to the water shutoff valve to make sure things match up to what is included with the product. If in doubt, call a professional to install it.
My installation experience. First let me say as someone with well over three decades of experience ranging from appliance repair to commercial refrigeration and commercial kitchen equipment repair, service and installation, I have seen a thing or two. So nothing surprises me. Not even in my own home.
This is where the straight forward installation takes a turn. Even though I bought my home new in 2002, I didn’t plumb it or install the faucet. When I removed the plastic waterline from the water shutoff valve I noticed that a brass furrow had been used instead of a plastic one. (See photo) That killed the “under 30 minutes” theme. A quick look in my work supplies showed I didn’t have a plastic one on hand. Time to improvise. I cut the end off of the waterline. I then removed the screw on compression male adapter that was inserted into the supplied push-in coupler using wire cutters to push the release ring on the coupler in and pulled out the adapter with needle nose pliers. (See Photo) This allowed me to push the waterline from the faucet into the coupler and then one of the supplied blue hoses into the out port of the filter mount. Make sure this goes into the correct (Out) port. I then used the other parts as they were meant to be used. (See photos)
I wrote about my experience to illustrate that nothing is always as simple as it looks even for someone with experience. Had I not known I could remove the adapter from the included coupler it would have been a trip to HD.
Mounting the filter bracket was pretty easy but do give yourself room, height wise, if you plan on using the longer filters. The supplied screws are not long to go into anything outside of a standard cabinet with at least a half inch thick wall. If you are driving them into something thinner or use different screws then beware of what’s on the other side like wiring or plumbing.
I also want to note that 3M also makes the Cuno brand of commercial water filtration systems for supermarkets, restaurants and industrial food service. Cuno water filters are Not compatible with the consumer Filtrete water filters. Mounts are different.
I ran at least 10 gallons of water through the filter as recommended. It came out black as it went through the charcoal and quickly changed to clear. This is normal. Water flow appeared to stay the same as it was before. Same flow as hot which is not going through the filter.
Taste wise it was easy to tell the difference between filtered and not filtered. Compared to other brands I have used over the years from Pelican Water and Britta it tastes just as good. 3M recommends you change the filter every six months. A sticker is included to tell you when it’s time. I simply set a few reminders on my phone to let me know.
For the price it’s hard to beat and you don’t have to fill a pitcher or have a canister sitting on the counter and an adapter on the faucet to deal with that is plastic and will break in time.

We have a cabin in the mountains of Colorado. We installed it there since we don't live there full time. Time will tell, but so far so good. Install was simple. My 18 year old did it less than 30 minutes.
If you have a need, this is a great choice. Inexpensive, easy to install and of course the very good reputation of Filtrete.

This is like one of those pitcher filters on steroids.
So installation took about 1 hour. I had to improvise because, mounting to drywall is not as sturdy. I used a piece a 2x4 to anchor to the stud and then mounted to the 2x4.
Connecting the plumbing was pretty straight forward. It came with all the required hardware.
Filter flush is needed. First slug came out with all the activated carbon dust.
After flushing, it worked well. Chlorine taste is gone. Also flow was not inhibited either.
Overall good filter. I would recommend this product.

Bought one from a few years back and it works well. Once you buy the mount, you just buy the replacement filter. Over a couple years, the white plastic on the mount will discolor (especially the side facing the sun). Buying this one as replacement for cosmetic reason.

Inexpensive filter to deliver better tap water

Opened the 3M Quick Change Standard Under Sink Water Filtration System and it looked like an easy install. Everything I needed looked to be included. Well until I looked at my system. My shut off valve has a different size fitting, so off to the hardware store to get a few parts. No big deal. Once I got back and made sure I had everything I emptied the cabinet under the sink (I think that took longer than the install) and picked a spot to hang the unit. It’s easy. Turn off the shut-off valve and remove the supply line. Use the parts I picked up and the quick connect supplied with the kit and attach the supply line to the upper open connection on the hanger. Then again with an adapter, use the supplied part to connect the incoming water supply to the lower-left connection on the hanger. Tada now just attach the filter. It only goes on one way…I think, and it tightens against the hanger as you turn.
Now does it work? I don’t know, it’s too soon to tell. The water still comes out and it tastes okay. I drink tap water anyway, so I can’t tell if it’s different or not. I can tell you I know in my head that it must be better for me. Removing Chlorine must be good and filtering the sand, rust, sediment and any soil is awesome. Just knowing its working is a positive and if it makes my tea, coffee, and hot chocolate taste better…bonus!
To see if other users have a positive view of the system, I checked a few online store reviews and I see that the only negative response is it’s hard to locate filters for the unit. I found a couple of links, but they were sold out and I don’t know if that’s because they are discontinued or because of our current situation with Covid-19. I do know that 3M posted this answer on one site, “This system is compatible with replacement filter models 3US-AF01, 3US-PF01, and 3US-MAX-F01.” (3m.com via HomeDepot.com) Using that advice, I was able to find third party filters sold individually, in pairs, and multipacks at reasonable prices. Knowing that in six months I can replace the filter is one of the most important issues with any product that has parts that need to be changed out.
I’d recommend this to my friends since it has a low cost and easy install. My area has hard water, so having an inexpensive way to deliver better-tasting water works.

Let me start by saying, every home should be equipped with the Filtrete Filtration system!! The Filtrete system is an alternative to getting a filtration system being installed on your house which is very expensive, requires purchasing of salts, and can actually ruin pipes, toilet bowls, and sinks because of the salts. I have had this happen!! With the Filtrete you're getting cleaner water without having to spend a lot of money! Installing was super easy for me and didn't even take but 15 minutes. Instructions were perfectly described and easy to understand. Now let's get to the water quality, I'm not able to test water quality but I can tell a HUGE difference in smell and taste. I live in an old home with older pipes which means sediments are often in the water, well not anymore. My water out the faucet use to smell like a mix of chlorine/sulfur, well NOT NO MORE!! The water tastes so much better and to have to smell the chlorine has made me enjoy our tap water. What I love about this system is how easy it is to replace filters with just a turn. The filters are also affordable making it easier for people of all incomes to have the opportunity to have a filtration system. I personally believe every household should be equipped with these! I highly recommend this product!!

Very impressed with how easy to install this under sink Filtrete water filter was. My husband had a stroke about a year ago and he was able to get under our sink and install basically one handed. The water tested out with decent levels and it honestly tastes fine. Remember to leave it run for 7 or 8 minutes before your first use or the water will look cloudy. I am so happy to get rid of the Pur we had been using for years. If you are in the market for a water filter I highly recommend this one. The filters should last up to 6 months as well. We love ours!

This 3M filtrete filter is an overall good product. Installation was pretty straight forward and I found that all the necessary items were included for its installation. If you are familiar with a wrench and screw driver, you'll probably have an easy go of it with the installation. If not, you might need to employ the service of a handyman or plumber.
The product is advertised as being good either for 2,000 gallons of usage or a 6 month period of time. At the time of installation my cities municipality was heavy chlorinating our water and this filter did a pretty good job of removing the smell. I was quite happy with the taste and smell of my drinking water.
As far as the water flow was concerned, after installation flow remained at a decent level. The filter is advertised as being a 1/4 turn when replaced, which definitely makes it an easy task when it comes to its replacement. I had no problems with water leaks for which I was very happy about.
Overall, very happy with this product. Ease of installation, all supplied parts are included and no trips to the local hardware store. Definitely a winner in my opinion.

Our house is on well water and purchasing a whole house filter is expensive sand unnecessary for everyday use. We do have a standard water filter on the water that comes up from the pump, but that is hardly enough to get good tasting water. On top of that, the pipes in our house are old as well. We’ve decided to take a targeted approach to water filtering by putting water filters in specific faucets that we will either drink water from of brush our teeth. That is where a simple solution like the Filtrete Water Filtration System makes sense.
It is super easy to install with just a few hand tools and a little patience providing you have just a little bit of skill with tools and the space under your sink to install it. I put this one under my kitchen sink. The directions were very clear. Just make sure you pay close attention. Things like understanding the water in and out ports and making sure you push the blue tubing in firmly are key to a successful installation.
Once installed, the instructions recommend that you flush about 10 gallons of water through the filter before use. After doing that, I tested my first glass of drinking water and I was impressed. The mineral and water softener taste that was so noticeable before was virtually gone. It makes it so much easier to fill large bottles of drinking water rather than waiting for the water dispenser on our refrigerator.
This is such an easy and inexpensive solution that we have decided to put one on each one of our sinks. We love the fact that each filter lasts 6 months as well.
