After waiting years for this remake, I can honestly say it was worth it. Final Fantasy 7 has become a classic in video games and deserved an upgrade. The graphics are gorgeous and the story and characters are more fleshed out. The combat system was always going to be my biggest fear because I like the turn based style and have not been impressed with Final Fantasy games that have gone away from this style. My fears have been put to rest since this combat manages to mix live action combat while slowing things down when you choose to use the command feature and pick using items, spells etc. It gives you time to think about your actions, all at a fast pace, so it is the best of both worlds. My biggest complaint is that this is only the Midgar section of the game. They do extend the game so it is not short, but I am not thrilled to have to wait yet again for the next release of the same game and pay again to have the complete game. Games are already expensive and now this one has been divided so we will have to buy the next installment when it comes out. I am not going to take points off the game itself for this, but It would have been nice to have the full game from the beginning. Overall, this is a must have for Final Fantasy 7 fans.

I was never a big fan of the original like so many who bought this game (though I lived through it as a kid and remember how exciting it all was), but despite only having basic knowledge of the general cast and plot points, I was blown away and really enjoyed the remake. It did a great job of fleshing out the world and characters in a way that was clearly intended by the developers in 1997, but couldn't be done due to the lack of resources and capabilities of that generation. The combat is fast, fluid, and fun. The characters are all interesting. The visuals are top notch. The music is great. The cutscenes are awesome. The acting is well executed. The only real knock against the game are the side quests, which are downright boring, and do little more than extend overall playtime and act as pointless filler. That's really about it. The main game is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to the next part in the remake series.

This game is exactly what I'd want in a remake! Better graphics, expanded story (only for the midgar segment), improved character development, incredible music, an enhanced and innovative tactical/real time battle system and all new characters and segments never before seen in the original game. Overall, you're going to get at least 35-40+ hours out of this game even though it is ONLY the midgar section of the game. Without spoiling anything, if you're a returning player from the original, expect to be very surprised, and as for new players, you will seriously LOVE this RPG as an incredible installment in the Final Fantasy series. Flaws? Yea, it has some as to be expected like some awkward voice acting here and there, and bad padding at times, but overall the positives far outweigh the negatives. If you haven't already, PICK THIS GAME UP! [Exclusive Deluxe Edition Thoughts] The Cactus summon DLC stuff really isn't a big game changer and is not a must have. As far as the physical bonus items, it's freaking beautiful! The box it all comes in has like a mat finish with shiny letters on all sides of the box + shiny images all on the back (if you really care about shiny things). The steel book..is also very shiny and the art is really nice. This edition contains a very nice little artbook filled with colorful art that will make any FF7 fan smile, and the mini soundtrack is..ok. The soundtrack leaves much to be desired but it is a MINI soundtrack so..yea. If you're a huge FF7 fan get this edition and if you're just new or not a huge fan or the original, I'd highly recommend just picking up the standard edition.

My expectations were more than met for this game. As someone who was never able to play the original myself but watched plenty of playthroughs online, this was a great way to jump into the story. The gameplay is engaging with the battle system giving you the adrenaline from realtime battle, but slowing down the action when you need to assign an action. Seeing cloud swinging his sword in slowmo is really satisfying. The voice acting is wonderful, both the cutscene and in game animation are beautiful, and the story is engaging. While the sidequests aren't the most inventive in the world, they do give you a better sense of immersion and investment in the sectors that you visit.

Having played the original over 20 years ago, Final Fantasy VII Remake brought back the feeling of nostalgia from the past. The city of Midgar looks much grander, the storyline greatly expanded, and the combat system modernized. I finished the game in just over 40 hours and there are still plenty of post game experience that can keep me occupied for a while. The Deluxe version of the game comes with an art book, a soundtrack CD, a steelbook case, and two additional in-game summons (Chocobo Chicks, and Cactaur) which are not exactly that useful. So, I'd say save the $20 and get the regular version.

Theres a reason this game took so long and they did phenomenal job. The graphics were top notch gorgeous. Animations were straight like a movie. Some scenes had my mouth agape. The redone music from the original is a great fresh spin. The battle system is fast, fun, tactical, and probably the best progression from the original you could expect. Is the game perfect tho? Well, some side quests seem like gratuitous padding and are tedious. Some of the dungeon/level portions of the game seem to drag on a bit long as well. Its limited scope of turning the first 6 hours of the original into a 45 to 50 hour game will do that. But the extra story bits added and the remained portions allow the original to have value for what it is, while giving you a reason beyond sparkly shiny to appreciate the remake. However you will be waiting a long. Long. Time for the whole story. This is the first of an unknown how many parts. It will be years til the sequel which will undoubtedly be a ps5 exclusive so if you get invested here, you will be arm twisted to buying a ps5

Zero spoilers here. Long story short, I loved this game. It has great visuals, AMAZING music, an excellent battle system and has been the best gaming experience I've had in years. But you have to understand that this is not the same FF7 many of us know and love from way back in 1997. Luckily, we will always have that game and can play it on pretty much any console these days. No spoilers here, but that ending though! Oof that ending will be so controversial. I have to say that at first that ending really disappointed me and left me questioning why the game didn't just end an hour sooner. But as I quietly sat on my couch, reflecting on everything that transpired, I realized that it's actually a pretty great, smart and thought provoking ending. Just really hope Nomura doesn't kingdom hearts the crap out of the next games. The graphics are also really amazing... Most of the time. For some reason, the slums, especially during the day, can look really bad. But it did not affect my enjoyment in the least and about 90% of the time, the visuals in this game really blew me away. Everything else was perfect. Best battle system of any final fantasy to date and music was God tier. For me, this game is a 10 out of 10. It's not perfect by any means and if someone told me this game was a 5 out of 10 for them, I'd completely understand. But the fact is that I enjoyed every second of my time with this and I simply cannot wait to replay it again and again.

To summarize: This game is fantastic for longtime fans and new players alike. The visuals (especially the lighting) are top notch. The soundtrack is incredible. Combat is fun and engaging. Story is great. The game has its flaws, but overall is really impressive. Visuals: amazing lighting, details and animations...for your main characters and focal objects. Some objects, like flowers by Aerith’s are pretty low tech(Very low polygon count) and if you’re on a regular PS4, you will see some low-to-High texture pop. Mouth animations are decent on main characters and NPCs, but poor on inconsequential NPCs. The lighting though, playing this with HDR is breathtaking. If you have a PS4 Pro with a HDR TV, prepare to be wowed. Combat: it’s very fun and intense, on normal anyway. I’ve not tried easy or classic. The AI for your teammates at times can be very frustrating as they do inexplicably bizarre things, but if you’re good about managing your tactics, it can be so satisfying to set up combos (especially with Tifa). Summons are useful and strong. They are balanced well. Story: they did an excellent job of fleshing our characters more and bringing the main character’s personalities to life. The pace lags at times with odd side quests, but that’s pretty minimal. But they really did a great job of character development and making you really care about them.

I played Final Fantasy VII back around when it launched. My parents got me a Playstation and the game, and I remember how impressed I was. It was a journey in gaming like no other at the time. Game companies were trying their hardest to make games that felt like movies. Their marketing took part in that desire, and it was pretty obvious. This game picks up where that one left off with that desire and they come with a game that looks like a CGI film in motion. Beautifully rendered characters, amazing arrangements to the score by Masashi Hamauzu and a few other composers and probably one of the best battle systems a Square-Enix game has ever had. There are debates if narratively this game has done the original justice. I say that you should look at this one on its own merits and forget about Final Fantasy VII. If you want to play Final Fantasy VII, play the original. If you want to experience something new, with a faithful modern interpretation of that great cast from the original game, play this one.

The Deluxe Edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake is a great collector's piece. It comes with a Steelbook, the original game case with a reversible cover, a mini CD with about 11 tracks on it, a mini artbook and a Cactuar summon on top of the Chocobo summon. The game comes with two disc a data disc and a play disc. You need to extract the data disc first (about 30 mins.) and when thats done you put in the play disc and you start the game. The game itself is wonderful with amazing graphics that look great even on a PS4 Slim. The music is mindblowing especially when you exploring the game then enter battle. The transition is smooth and when the battle is finished it transition back into the field theme and it just perfect. The game is around 30+ hours if you focus mainly on the story and less on the side quest which there are a handful of. Ranging from fetch this to kill this the side quest are kind of annoying at times but if you don't want to do them you can skip them. I can go on about how good this game is with its retelling of the Midgar section but I would advise that you play the game yourself to see how good it is.

As a fan of the original, I enjoyed the FFVII remake a lot. It's one of my favorite games of 2020. Square made some bold moves with the game, but in my opinion they paid off. The classic story is there, combat is a blast, great soundtrack, and beautiful visuals. Part 2 can't release fast enough!

The game we've wanted for over a decade! Graphics and combat are amazing. Unfortunate that the game is split into multiple parts with no set release date ahead, but that just speaks to the quality of this remake. The only complaint really is that this game is sectioned off solely in Midgar and it forces you to revisit many of the same areas. It doesn't work like a Metroidvania game or Resident Evil 2 where you're revisiting an area with new abilities. It's all the same. Other than that, this is a must play for any Final Fantasy fan and those that have played the original FF7 should be pleased with this product.

I am a big fan of the original and this has been an overall enjoyable experience for me. I love seeing the fully realized environments I remember so well from 20 years ago, and the new arrangements of the music I know every note of by heart. While no longer turn-based, the combat is still really fun; feeling like a more polished idea of what Final Fantasy XV tried to do. The materia system was brought over from the original and for good reason; it's a great class system, as is the weapon upgrade system which allows you even more freedom over the build of the characters. The English voice cast did a really good job, no complaints there. The story doesn't stray too far from the original, but there are things added that definitely don't respect the original events. I would much rather they stuck strictly to the events of the original, as it was branded one of the greatest games of all time for a reason. Much like George Lucas and the original Star Wars trilogy, you're opening up disaster by changing anything that made the original great. I'll have to see where they take it from here. The game is unfortunately plagued with a ton of parts that severely interrupt the momentum of the gameplay and make no sense narratively. The developers are apparently obsessed with having Cloud move through narrow spaces at 2 inches an hour (some claim this is to replace loading screens, but there are SO MANY parts in the game where it is so brief and unnecessary, that using this to render the environment doesn't make any sense), or awkwardly climb over a tiny gap using monkey bars hanging overhead. This is a guy that can jump like 50 feet in the air, why are we forced to use extremely slow methods to getting through some areas? There are many other small segments throughout the game that could have seriously been pruned and nothing of value would be lost. I am not sure how this game stands on its own without the nostalgia factor of having played the original. The original FFVII released in an age with game mechanics that we have grown out of and find incredibly clunky and awkward today. This was one of the main reasons why they opted away from the turn-based combat and give you something more real time. However, there are stlil many questionable design choices that contradict this greatly. For someone who hasn't played the original, the combat and story might be enjoyable, but the general hyper-linear gameplay forcing you to go down narrow pathways the entire game with not much opportunity for exploration might be a turn off.

The opening moments of FF7: Remake are likely to give any gamer goosebumps. But as a fan of the original, the "WOW" factor was especially potent. Seeing Cloud and the crew in glorious detail with what I can only describe as the best musical score in video games is truly a sight to behold. Gameplay wise, FF7 Remake trades turn based combat for real time God of War influenced hack and slash with some team management and understandable JRPG elements mixed in. Critically, I did have a few complaints about presentation. Barrett sounds like he is voice by Robert Downey Jr from the movie Tropic Thunder, to the point where it is hard to take seriously. In addition, Cloud could be pretty easily mistaken for a female depending on the angle his face is in the game. Still, the game makes a jaw dropping first impression and is an exciting way to go back to a game that changed the landscape f what we can expect from video games in general.

Best Buy's service was exceptional, and the Deluxe edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake (Part 1) arrived exactly when it was supposed to. This is Final Fantasy done right for the modern age, the combat and story will keep you on the edge of your seat! The expansive plot will leave you reeling and writhing for more— even though, you still believe the nostalgia and innovative game-play of the original Final Fantasy VII makes for one of the best games of all time. FFVII the Remake, takes all of that and expands it with acting, writing, and a further enhanced narrative— expanding and enhancing a timeless classic. Be warned but not worried The Highwind, Cerberus, the lands of Wutai, and our Mog friends will all arrive in later series titles.

I'm incredibly biased because the original Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game, and I was worried that the Remake couldn't possibly live up to my expectations, but this game exceeded them in every way. The combat system has a lot of depth and fighting is super fun. The environments, voice acting, music, dialogue, pacing...it's all the best I've ever seen in a game. Even though it helps to have some familiarity with the world of FF7, it definitely isn't necessary to enjoy this game. Be advised, Remake only covers the first 15% or so of the original story; HOWEVER, that brief portion has been fleshed out into a full game, without feeling padded. I beat the story in 35 hrs, and I'm still doing post-game stuff at 70 hrs.

Got this bad boy thru curbside on release date. Gotta say one of the best games out there. This is a must buy for those wanting to dive into the FF7 universe. Story - plot is very deep and yet newcomer friendly which means you'll not get lost even if it's your first time playing FF7. Character development is done perfect. Gameplay/Combat - not just your typical action RPG. Every battle feels refined in such a way that you need to think carefully what strategy bests the opponent. Team play is key. Graphics/Audio - rendered quality pushes my PS4 PRO to its limit, although there are some lower quality NPCs but it's totally tolerable.
