Customers are saying

Customers admire Final Fantasy XVI's impressive gameplay, captivating story reminiscent of Game of Thrones, and amazing music. The steelbook is also a highlight for many collectors. While some found the side quests and open world aspects less engaging, and noted some performance issues, the overall reception is overwhelmingly positive.

The game is great from the demo i played buy it somewhere else. My issue is i pre-ordered and didn't get the steelbook yet there are stores other than mine that have in stock? Got the run around when i called and through chat. This was obviously fumbled by best buy but they wont help anyone. Plan on returning it on my days off. Also canceling my remaining preorders to save the headaches.

Let's start off with the only negative experience so far, the performance. Playing in "FPS mode" hasn't been that smooth, the game looks too blurry when moving the camera around (likely due to upscaling + motion blur) and the FPS drop quite a bit in the open world, this makes me wish the game was available on PC and I will certainly buy it again when it is. (Oled 4k 120) UPDATE - the devs listened to feedback and added a motion blur settings (and new controller layouts) I can confirm that lowering motion blur to 2 or less massively improves the experience. As for EVERYTHING ELSE, the game is almost perfect!!! Gameplay: The combat feels incredibly smooth, so many different abilities and combos to try which allow for different styles of gameplay. From more passive, ranged, defensive and aggressive. The game starts slow but as you get more Eikons, you unlock many more abilities. Mixing magic with eikonic abilities, doing some air combat and rushing towards enemies feels great! Story (no spoilers): It's an incredible adventure and the experiences will make you feel very attached to the characters. The world and lore are great to explore, you will visit so many different areas. It will be quite the rollercoaster of emotions. There are a lot of friendly features to remind you during cutscenes about the lore of the topics discussed or even the characters, you hold the touchpad and it will show you different cards about everything to keep you always informed especially if you are somewhat forgetful. Some side quests are little more tedious but most of them tell you a story about characters you meet through the main quest and they do a lot of world building so I highly recommend doing them all. Some of them can even be very emotional. Music, graphics and art style: This game has some of the most epic battles I have seen. Fighting Eikons feels like you are truly doing something incredible, like fighting a god. The combination of what you are doing, cinematics, music and sound effects make for some truly epic moments and gives you quite the adrenaline rush. The music is beautiful and emotional and helps you get more immersed. Graphically, the game is beautiful, especially in areas with a lot of vegetation. And as for the effects, I know some may not like them as much but I love the many effects on each encounter - although they can sometimes be a little distracting. I love how they incorporated the PS5 controller vibration feature into transmitting the feeling of what's occurring in game. I only bought a PS5 for this so it was my first time experiencing it but I must say it was truly worth every penny only for this game alone. This game is a MUST for every true Final Fantasy fan. Truly a masterpiece. I know some are disappointed with the lack of features such as gear, managing your party and crafting like old FF games; however, don't let that discourage you, while they are certainly nice features to have, the game feels amazing and complete as it is currently. Honestly Hugh departure from Jrpg but this is definitely the best action game in years by far. Something to note especially for recent games, this game does not feel buggy at all! Currently on second play through.

As a fan of Final Fantasy XIII and XV I had no doubts that I would love this game. It is true that the modern Final Fantasy games have changed genres a lot to appeal to modern gamers and that has turned a lot of people off. But some forget that the series has done this kind of thing before and each entry is its own seperate experience, excluding X-2, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns of course. The one flaw the game has is it’s too easy once you get a hang of the combat flow in random skirmishes. I found most of the boss encounters however to be challenging and very rewarding to conquer. The story is wonderfully crafted and generally well-paced. The ending surprised me in a good way. The music is undoubtedly some of the best in the series and among the greatest in this current console generation. Overall much better than I expected and not deserving of the hefty criticism it has been getting from longtime fans, who are understandably miffed at the lack of traditional JRPG bits to sink their teeth into. But for fans of character action games, a genre that has been flirting with Final Fantasy for some time now, this game is a real treat and a must-play. Mark my words, this game will be a cult classic.

Stunning masterpiece! This gane was qorth the wait! From the the epic Eikon battles to the fast paced action style combat, everything about this game is amazing. Only drawback is the performance mode needs some optimization. The steelbook case and cloth map that come with this edition are great. The steelbook is a work of art.

While this feels more like a spin off than a fully fledged Final Fantasy, it still has some strong aspects. The combat is diverse, the story is interesting, and the music is very good. On the other side, focusing the entire story on one character is a bit of a miss, and the world can feel empty and devoid of exploration. Its also pretty short, especially for a role playing game. Overall, a strong title that could have benefited from changing perspectives. Giant monster combat is fun but it feels like you have very little control during those segments. Still, there is more good than bad to be found here.

Apprehensive at first, since it went the route of the action RPG. About 25 hours in though and it's grown on me quite a bit. The visuals are great, controls are good and easy to pick up. So far i like the story but the opening beats were very predictable, hopefully it sticks the landing. Wasn't a big fan of the ways they allowed you to make it easy, thankfully they're all optional so you can unequip them or change difficulty settings as you wish. Im looking forward to finishing it up and starting up again with a different play style.

The Deluxe Edition has some great items for FF fans. Enjoy the steelbook, DLC item and packaging. Overall, having a great time with the game. Thanks to the help of the Kingdom Hearts team and DMC producer, gameplay and action feel great and rewarding the more you progress. It may not be for every Final Fantasy fan, but it is definitely enjoyable to jump into. Really enjoy the score, and find the story to be just as good

    A More Mature Final Fantasy

A Darker, More Mature Final Fantasy with a Stunning Presentation The Final Fantasy XVI Deluxe Edition on PlayStation 5 is one of the most ambitious and cinematic entries in the franchise to date. From the moment you boot up, it’s clear Square Enix aimed to create something darker, grittier, and more story-driven than past titles. Story & Characters The game leans heavily into mature storytelling, with political intrigue, betrayal, and morally complex characters. Clive Rosfield, the protagonist, carries the narrative with weight and emotion. The writing feels more like a prestige TV series than a traditional JRPG, which may divide longtime fans, but it absolutely hooked me. Gameplay & Combat This is not your typical turn-based Final Fantasy. Combat is fully action-oriented, more akin to Devil May Cry than Final Fantasy XV. It’s fast, fluid, and flashy, with giant Eikon battles that feel larger-than-life. Some may miss the strategic depth of older entries, but the combat system is accessible and thrilling, especially with the ability to chain abilities from multiple Eikons. Music & Atmosphere Masayoshi Soken’s soundtrack is phenomenal—epic orchestral themes that heighten both the intensity of boss fights and the emotion of quieter story beats. Paired with the game’s stunning visuals and cinematic presentation, every scene feels grand and immersive. Deluxe Edition Extras The Deluxe Edition is beautifully packaged. It includes: A gorgeous SteelBook case with exclusive artwork A cloth world map of Valisthea (perfect for collectors) The game’s digital mini artbook and soundtrack for fans who want to dive deeper into the world. It feels premium and worthwhile if you’re a fan of collecting physical memorabilia. Pros & Cons Pros Dark, gripping story with strong performances Fast-paced, stylish combat Jaw-dropping visuals and soundtrack Deluxe Edition packaging feels premium Cons Less RPG depth compared to older entries Some side quests feel repetitive Pacing can be uneven in the middle sections Final Verdict If you’re looking for a Final Fantasy that reinvents itself with bold storytelling and action-heavy gameplay, Final Fantasy XVI Deluxe Edition is absolutely worth it—especially for collectors who want the SteelBook and map. It’s not the Final Fantasy of old, but it’s a confident step forward into something new.

This is one of the best Final Fantasy games I have ever played. The story is great the gameplay is awesome and the voice actors really nailed it. I usually find myself preferring turn based rpgs, but I found myself really enjoying this one. This on my opinion is probably one of the best games of the year. Don’t miss out on this, you’ll regret it.

Final Fantasy XVI is simultaneously the 16th (or 19th, if you count 10 and 13's sequels) mainline entry, and the first in a new era. It retains series mainstays like chocobos, crystals, and Cid, but does away with the older turn based and ATB battle systems entirely. The more action focused combat of the FF7 remake has become more fully fleshed out here. While I wish there was a bit more depth to your basic attack and magic combos, mastering what it does give you is a satisfying (and very flashy!) experience. The story, too, is a vast departure from previous entries. I'll avoid spoilers here, but it weaves a much darker tale than series vets have come to expect. Even Lightning Returns, a literal end of the world story, had a fairly cheerful atmosphere. That cheer is rare here, replaced instead with butchery, enslavement, and a healthy dose of men angrily dropping F-bombs. The story has largely taken its queue from the darker Game of Thrones type of storytelling that has been popular lately, but it mostly pays off. It does often reel back with more personal and heartwarming stories though. Even in the gloom there are still good people trying to do right in a world not built to allow it.

I am really enjoying this game and the quests (MSQ and Side Quests). Yes there are some quests that seem pointless or like "take this here" or "kill this for me", but i actually dont mind them since they all help tell the story about what is going on... I also dont mind the fact there is a lot of cutscenes. This, to me, is like a Final Fantasy movie. This game really isnt for small children as they did give this an M rating for a reason. However, the violence, blood and language and other content isn't there just for the heck of it and it does help tell the story and build the environment. The other issue some may have is that this game is a full action game. You actually have to dodge and counter. You can do combos. You main actuons are physical attack, magic attack dodge and jump. By using these buttons and directional keys you can do some crazy combos (which really only matter for arcade mode scoring). I am really enjoying this game and it is among the best i have played.

20 hours in, it's like every hour after another is like opening a birthday present bigger than the one before. Yes, it's not the same as previous Final Fantasy but Final Fantasy has always been about trying something new, Also turn based game hasn't been part of Final Fantasy for almost 2 decades now. People might be mad about not having inclusion but there's a reason why it isn't in there. Once you are approximately 15 hours into the game, you will understand why. With the side quest, it takes time to build up. It may seem the typical fetch quest, but it does build upon it to a much bigger side story. Did I say, you can pet Torgal? Yes, you can pet Torgal. Story 9.8/10 Gameplay 9.7/10

This is the best overall Final Fantasy title in recent years. If you are a fan of action RPGs , along the vein of Platinum Games then you will love this game. It has a gripping story, full of intrigue, with characters who have their own motives, both on a grand political scale and deeply emotional ones as well. The protagonist is well written, and how he interacts with the the vast world serves as the crux of the game. If you are a fan of long term storytelling combined with a fluid, and fun combat system then you may enjoy this game. The music, graphics, and presentation are also top notch. The voice acting is perfectly cast, and draws you into the story. So if you’re looking for a rpg to invest many hours into, Final Fantasy 16 is well worth the time.

Some of the best boss battles in a game there is. Very fun combat, and an engaging story. Incredible music. On the other hand, very noticeable pacing issues and RPG aspects such as exploration, customization, and loot are underwhelming. Worth a buy
