    Broken HR Monitor

The people who wrote good reviews must not be checking the accuracy of their heart rate while exercising. It seriously thought my heart rate was 100 while jump roping. My Apple Watch said 135 when the Alta HR said 104. I took my own pulse, and the Alta HR was way off constantly during exercise, although it seems to be very accurate for resting heart rate. I don't get it. I adjusted it to many tightness levels and tried both wrists. I give up and am returning it. (Purchased from Best Buy.) If you don't care about heart rate monitoring, it's an awesome fitness tracker. I love the thinness, how you can get colorful replacement bands, and I like how many customization options there are. The screen is hard to activate by tapping, but the activation when you flick your wrist towards you works pretty well. The Fitbit app is all right. I really like that it syncs so easily and frequently.

I bought the Fitbit Alta for my wife who is petite. She had the Charge prior to this and she loves the Alta's fit compared to the Charge.

    OK, but not great

I wanted to keep track of heart rate for outdoor activities but the screen can't be read in the direct sunlight. After 10 hrs. in an amusement park, I had to rely on the kids' devices for steps because we couldn't read it.(22,000 BTW) The device says that it will automatically switch between activities like walking and biking but my bike rides are not recorded. So, it's OK, but I wish I hadn't spent the money.

    Great design...band durability questionable

Im a gadget geek so I rock an Apple Watch on my left wrist and my Fitbit Alta HR on my right wrist. I absolutely love my Fitbit and it’s functionality, but kind of regret giving away my Fitbit Blaze because it’s been hard to adjust to the much smaller screen on the Alta. I’ve only had my Fitbit for six months and already in need of a new band. The locking mechanism that keeps the band connected to the actual device is no longer working. My band has fell off randomly on numerous occasions.

My husband had 1 and we thought would be good for me to have 1 also. Problem was........I don't like Win10 and refused to get it when it was free (got it on my Surface and hated it)...now to use the Fitbit I HAVE to have Win 10, which it never said anywhere. I refuse to pay $120 for Win 10 when I didn't want it to begin with just so I can use my Fitbit. Will be returning it.

I lost 30lbs the first few months I had my original fitbit. It's been a few years now and I still love this devices especially when it comes to exercising and helping me lose weight. The bands have gotten durable, but I put a lot of wear & tear on mine, so I keep a few to rotate often.

Great except for heart rate monitor

I really enjoy the sleek style of this tracker. My main complaint is that the heart rate monitor is not accurate for exercise other than walking/jogging. It gets off track very easily for any aerobic exercises where you’re jumping or using weights. I find this very frustrating since exercise tracking was one of my main reasons for buying it.

bought the fitbit alta for the silent alarm (husband's insistence) and then got hooked by all the other features. Never mind that I discovered that it was easier to disconnect the tracker from the band, than to remove the watch as designed, we were inseparable - for only 18 mos. Then the display stopped working. Interactions with fitbit tech provided me with a discount coupon (which brought the price into competitive range with re-sellers) but it is environmentally unconscionable to replace it after only 18 mos. In protest of disposable culture at large I will not replace it.

    Disappointed

I was really looking forward to getting the Fitbit Alta HR and at first thought it was great, but after a few weeks I noticed I was hitting my step numbers while sitting. My heart rate was 85 - 95 while sitting as well, which was about 20 beats too high. When working out or running it was way under. Only around 110 when I could easily count 150 on my own. You have to stand still and sometimes it updates to a more accurate reading (after about a minute) but not ideal to keep stopping while working out. Ironically the more active you are, the less accurate it is. Tried tightening but that just caused irritation...and the same inaccurate reading. I don't usually write reviews but given the level of disappointment in the main feature (HR monitor) and the inability to comment directly to Fitbit, I feel I should warn others that if they want an accurate heart rate monitor, this isn't it.

    terrible customer service from fitbit

I've been a member of the Fitbit community for well over a year now, making the switch from my Misfit Shine (mainly switching because of a work promotion). I recently bought the new Alta HR from fitbit.com but was hoping to return it and purchase the special edition rose gold version. I contacted customer service to see about doing this. Mind you, the original Alta HR I bought has been unopened and I am willing to pay the difference for the upgraded color. I was told that I am unable to do this because the edition I would like to purchase is a special edition (even though it is exactly the same minus the color). The person answering my questions was pleasant enough but unable to tell me why this matters other than it is "different." I was not asking for an even exchange and understood there was a price difference. This is where I have trouble understanding why fitbit.com will not take back an unopened item for a customer to repurchase a more expensive model. I was told that this issue would be directed to a higher level of service. After waiting a week without response I emailed Fitbit and again asked about the return policy. Once again there no reason as to why I cannot return the original purchase to repurchase a different model, only that return policy states it can be returned/exchanged within 45 days for a different color or size. I still have yet to find a place to leave a review, other than specific retailers. This, I guess, should have been a red flag. If a company doesn't trust reviews to be directly on their website when purchasing a product then there may be something wrong. After researching a bit I've noticed many problems with the new Alta HR listed in the community section, step count, calorie count, charging, etc. Guess my run with Fitbit is over. I will be switching back to my Misfit which has a more accurate step count, looks sleeker, and is waterproof!

I purchased fitbit alta hr 4days ago and I’m very disappointed. Screen already has so much scratch on it from just daily activity. I don’t understand how the product for fitness would not be scratch resistance. This is very disappointing and makes me feel as i wasted my money for nothing. Also, the app doesn’t allow you to choose two different country for food entry. I wish i can return it if i can.

This product is horrible. The steps and calories are so over inflated that there's no way to get a good idea of what you even did for the day. I'm burning hundreds more calories a day according to Fitbit Alta HR than I was doing more activity with my FitBit Flex. According to Alta I burned 850 calories in a 40 minute workout which was by no means an intense workout, at least 20 min of the 40 were just spent walking. If you're looking for a fitness tracker... this is not it because anyone who's actually monitoring steps and calories would need it to be more accurate than that. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

I purchased one just for the heck of it to see it's capabilities. Returned it. My Apple watch has more health features and monitors my activities better than the Fit Bit. Also my watch is great for working out at the health club.

    Poor Tracking

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

FITbit is a "Fitness" tracker. Well, when first purchased it would not auto-recognize our elliptical trainer. DId a reset and it recognizes it, but all work-outs are recorded as exactly 30 minutes, though in reality all are of some varied length greater than 30, so far. So, it in order to have accurate records, we would need to manually enter the exercise into the fitness app. Obviously, who needs the Fitbit to do this? Looking on the web, lots of people have tracking issues and it appears many return their Alta HRs. In my opinion, it is just an overpriced, cheap watch, not a real fitness tracker.

I gave this watch to my daughter who is also an EMT, she likes it very much, but cannot wear it to work because she needs a second counter or second hand. This fitbit has neither...a tragic flaw.

I purchased this for my wife 10 months ago from Best Buy. It worked great BUT the other morning she noticed a crack in the face of it. She contacted Fitbit to no avail. We were surprised to see the crack, since she never dropped it or hit anything with it. Fitbit offered to sell us another one for 25% off and free shipping. Obviously, they do not stand behind their product. I would not recommend buying this unless you also want to spend more for an extended warranty.

If you are interested in a Fitbit that when you walk for 40 minutes at 3.0 mph and a Fitbit shows you have walked a whopping 118 steps. This item is for you then. When you send a note to the manufacturer, and they respond that I set it up wrong, they will not get anymore of my money. I am able to read manuals just fine, set up items just fine. And by the way, this has happened twice, not just a one time occurrence. I may need to rethink my association with Best Buy as well.
