The reason I say it's just a good activity tracker is that's what I find that it does best. I got my Fitbit Surge as a Christmas gift from my wife to replace the old chest band heart rate monitor that I used as I exercised. The main reason I wanted it was for the heart rate monitor which is great when you are at rest but when you exercise it either does not read your pulse or it gives a false reading most of the time that I'm exercising. It has a lot more features that I find that work great. That's way I state that it is a good activity tracker. I will say that I would recommend it to a friend just as an activity tracker but not to a friend as a heart rate monitor.

The surge is my second Fitbit, the first was a Charge HR which I liked but fell apart eventually. The surge I wanted for the HR capability as well as GPS and I've enjoyed experimenting with the multiple different options. I have found the Mile tracker to be quite accurate when compared to the miles calculate when using the GPS. I am quite pleased with the overall versatility and accuracy. The one surprise was the battery. It was advertised to last 7-10 days (which might be true if you don't use any of the exercise modes, then it lasts 1 1/2 to 2 days.) Good news is it recharges quickly. I like it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Has made me more aware of how few steps I was taking in a day because of my desk job. Also, love checking my sleep log in the morning.

I really enjoy my fitbit surge. Downloaded the app. Which can help document your workouts. If use correctly it can help improve everyday. The battery life is not 7 days like it says. It's around 2 days especially when you use the GPS tracker. I love the app the most. It documents my runs, and tells me my times. I like to competing against myself and always try to beat my time from the day before. You can also receive your text messages on the surge. So you won't have stop running or have to take out your phone. Can check the messages right on the surge. You can also change the music through the phone. Overall a great product. It's worth it too me.

waited along time for this and was immediately dissapointed, the unit did not fit well. was combersome. My shirt sleeve kept changing the screen so when I lifted my arm to look at it is was somewhere else, than where I wanted it to be I returned it.

The Fitbit surge is a great for heart rate, steps, GPS, and even checks your text messages from your phone. Needs to be recharged daily but works as a great all rounded watch, fitness tracker and heart rate monitor.

Pros- cool gadget. Stylish for what it is, great battery life. Lots of features. Has actually been waterproof. Cons- heart rate is wildly inaccurate at times. Will lose heart rate often and takes 15 seconds to catch up. Doesn't sound long until it happens 34 times in a 60 minute workout. Thats 9 minutes of waiting (hitting pause for Insanity). Notifications DO NOT work on my phone properly. Droid Maxx. Band gives me a very mild rash and it must be taken off. Most likely not from the material reacting, but due to friction when working out.. Its a grupping silicone. The watch face scratches fairly easily. Overall I like it, and use it daily for what I can. I truly hope that they release a firmware upgrade to address the issues and the product will function as advertised. As of now it is only half functional, and overpriced for its limitations/shortfalls. I would not reccomend this to a friend YET. Others have more reliable tech. If and when a firware upgrade adresses the issues, I would happily recommend this product and feel it was worth the purchase price. Not Yet.

I like the functions of the surge. 1st one HR monitor did not work Exchanged at Best Buy 2nd one has worked fine this is 3rd fit bit, got a charge hr 1st and it quit working after 2 day and decided I wanted more of a watch and got the surge that HR monitor did not work on. But all the good reviews gave it one last try After a month now and am happy with it. Good fitness fuctions. Track milage, speed, and time. Never tried in water. It says not to. Love the vibration for text alert and phone calls. I can never hear my phone ring or feal it vibrate. Like to be able to see texts too. Battery life is okay. The sleep tracking is kind of hokey I think. I don't like sleeping with a watch. It needs to charge sometime too. But I can also see having a watch that does more with phone for message and music (you can skip songs from this) and a seperate fitness band. This strikes a balance. I like it. If it broke would I buy a new one? Maybe , would have to compare pure smart watch and pure fitness bands for function and price.

    IWatch or Fitbit surge

I thought I wanted the new iWatch, well I kinda still do but not at the current prices. I was concerned with a device that would monitor my heart rate during work out periods. Based on prior opener ship/familiarity with their pebble product and borrowing the new Fitbit he from a family member I conceded to trying the surge. I obtained the results I was looking for in the Fitbit hr but to acces the HeartRate info during workout you had to press a button on the far side of the device and the the tiny dislpay lit I for only a few seconds The surge almost gave me better results but it still lacks in the display of the info. I.e. Continuous LARGE display of the hr data. Great you can see it on th iPhone later but not on the wrist during except as a foot note. Battery life is better upto 3 days. The wrist band is okay. Sweating does not interfere so far The different exercise activities needs to be retooled for stationary cycles (read GPS ???) Summary: it is no iWatch but it does do the hr/step counter thing well

Love my fitbit sirge. So why only 4 stars? Because I have had to reset it several times in order to get the screens to swipe. I also had to reset it because it was giving me hundred of stairs per day. Despite the resets, I find that it tracks right along with a fuel band and a fitbit flex.

Ever sense I got this product I have been more apt to want to work out. I records everything. You can even go to fitbit.com and put in the extra exercises that you've done and it will count those calories as well. It is amazing! I love it! I'm trying to convince my husband to get one!

The Surge is a first rate activity monitor if a heart rate monitor is important to you. I have a heart problem and this unit helps me to not over exert while exercising with the added bonus of giving an active alert when I do.

This is great for everything I need. It linked right up to my iPhone 5 with no issues and it works great. I can change the screen face to my liking, do sleep tracking, and review my steps and everything else in real time. The watch isn't as bulky as I thought it might be and the wristband is really comfortable. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fitness tracker and watch all in one.

I bought this Fitbit for my husband. He likes it a lot, and it keeps him motivated to reach his daily goals. The only things he would like is for it to be waterproof and for the battery life to be longer. He has to charge it nightly. Other than that, he likes everything about it.
