This is a good product if your looking for simple. If you want something a little more high tech I would go with the Apple Watch. I have both & I use the Apple Watch most of the time.

Quality Tracker, Improvements Could Be Made

I've been wearing the surge nonstop for the past 2 weeks. In that time I have worked out about 10 times, ran a marathon and a half and have remained fairly happy with the surge overall. First, the fitness tracker itself. The battery easily lasts several days (very impressed) even while the tracker is constantly recording your activity and heart rate. I found the heart rate monitor to be within 1-2 beats. The GPS for both my half marathon and marathon were spot on and it didn't take long for it to connect - very impressed since my last GPS tracker took upwards of 2-5 minutes to connect. I have been surprised as to how well the tracker is also able to count how many sets of stairs I have climbed, steps/miles I've walked, and how many calories I've burned. I have worn different pedometers for months now and this one reports about just as many steps as my last 3, so I know it's accurate. The band is very comfortable, even with the small bump on the back of the tracker where the heart rate reader is located - I can't even tell it is there anymore. Now onto the ugly, the app. When the watch syncs properly and updates my account as it is meant to, everything is perfect. The problem is that this isn't the case the majority of the time. I have to close the app, hit sync now and stare at the screen and pray for about 2 or 3 minutes that it will sync. If it doesn't, I have to close the app and start from the beginning. If there is a glitch with your account, Fitbit has no way of correcting the problem, you can't even delete most records. If you're not happy with the band, there is no way to remove it to your account - you have to create a new one. This is 2015, why would these simple abilities not be added?! All in all, I am happy with the surge. Regardless of the app, it makes me more aware of my day-to-day activity which is its primary purpose. It is much more accurate and tracks far more than most other trackers, I'll be keeping it for a while.

The best fitness tracker on the market

This is a review not only of the tracker it is the ongoing support by Fitbit. I purchased mine as soon as Best Buy started selling it online, and before they sold it in stores. I continuously look for other trackers that offer the features of the Surge and the only thing that comes close is the Microsoft Band 2. Side by side reviews have shown that although both devices are somewhat inaccurate at times the Surge is by far the most accurate and has the longest battery life. I can leave my phone at home because the Fitbit doesn't need additional sensors to track elevation changes. it maps runs, bicycle rides, walks and hikes. One caveat is: The heartbeat monitor is pretty accurate for light activities and at rest, however it could use some help when running because it shows my heartbeat as too high compared to a chest strap. I wore both for about 20 runs and it is consistently about 20 beats high on me. My understanding is that this is an issue with all wrist monitors but I don't want to wear a chest strap 24 hours a day. Scared me until I realized it was the monitor and I just adjust mentally. So the Fitbit software shows all of your vital statistics on IOS, Windows, Windows phone, Android and Web interfaces. The tracker keeps statistics for mixed workouts, weights, spinning, rowing and even Yoga. You can have eight different workouts on the Surge at a time out of about 15. In addition to the workouts the software tracks your weight, calories taken in (manual input but very easy and they have nutrition information on tens of thousands of foods) and estimates calories burnt, water consumption, active minutes, sleep hours/minutes, interruptions and level (deep sleep, restless sleep etc.). The data is kept on the device for about a week but when you synch to the dashboard it is kept indefinitely. You can track your day/week/month/year. Fitbit is continuously adding new features to the software both on the device and off. As examples, recently they added the ability to turn on the fightback during a workout by bringing the wrist up for view. And they also started showing alerts at each mile with average pace etc. My one complaint has been that the band has been gradually flaking and today it came off at the watch connection when I caught the band on my door frame it came off rather easily, I think because the connection had deteriorated. However I called tech support hoping to find out if there were replacement bands available. She asked me when and where I bought it and I said January 2015 (it is Dec 30) at Best Buy on-line. She didn't even ask me for a receipt, did the paperwork and is shipping me a new replacement free of charge! My only desires for enhancement of the Surge other than the wish for waterproof so I can swim with it and a better (replaceable) strap would be a more fashionable model. I do not care much for most smartwatch functions and have never really used the message links etc. to either my Windows Phone or iPhone other than to see they work but it would be nice to be able to use this with me in more formal surroundings.

Had it just over a year and now the battery dies in less than a day. For $250 it should be years before the battery needs replacing. Their web site has 1000's of battery complaints.

Wanted to buy something special for our 15th anniversary. Found these FITBIT watches at the BEST BUY on-line site. ordered them, a large and a small. Before they arrived, price was dropped by $50.00 each. this was a great buy. the folks (GEEK SQUAD) at our local BEST BUY set the watches up and synced them with our Apple I-Phones. I will continue to check the BES TBUY web site daily!
