For the first few minutes, I thought this was going to be a bomb. The dialogue was really corny and I almost turned it off. But it came together quite nicely after the first ridiculous hotel scene where Will Smith "busts" his new apprentice Margot Robbie in the art of a con artist.. The plot had several genuine twists that I didn't see coming. The movie shows Will Smith as more than a rapper/comedian.

Will Smith is a favorite actor of mine and has been for many years. It has been quite awhile since the audience has last seen Will Smith on screen as a lead, but he shows us why there's a science to getting people to trust you in the movie Focus. While at a restaurant, Nicky takes notice of Jess who is at the moment in the company of a very drunk individual. She comes over to Nicky's table and suddenly asks Nicky to pretend to be her boyfriend. They strike up a conversation and immediately Jess invites Nicky upstairs to hotel room. Just as things are about to get steamy, Jess's "husband" bursts in and claims he will shoot Nicky; too which Nicky replies that he has cancer. After Jess figures out that Nicky realizes what is really going on here, she later meets up with Nicky wanting him to teach her his skill. But there is so much more to being a con man. Will Smith does a fantastic job in his role as Nicky. He is cunningly clever and easily maneuvers his way in and out of schemes like there's nothing to it. His performance in this movie is a reminder of the Will Smith I enjoy watching in his movies. Great job. The Gorgeous and talented Margot Robbie does a nice job portraying Jess throughout the course of the movie. Jess is a fast learner, and she and Nicky begin to develop an attraction towards each other. And in terms of chemistry, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are ELECTRIC together on-screen. Rodrigo Santoro plays Garriga and does a good job, while Adrian Martinez stars in a supporting role as Farhad and does a really nice job. In terms of story there were a FEW times where the script felt uneven, but that did not stop me from enjoying the movie. The music that this movie has is also really likable. Each scene that has music playing in the background fits in really well with the scene it was being played during. Focus is not a slow movie by any means, but it is a good movie due to the lead actors (and chemistry between Will Smith and Margot Robbie), the humor, the surprises, and the quick change of scenery . And with all this being said, I consider the movie Focus to be A Good Experience

Will Smith Doing What He Does Best

I faced something of a conundrum with Focus as I was really rooting for it and yet I'm wondering if I enjoyed the film more because it wasn't as all over the board as it seemed to be or if it's because it's genuinely pretty fun. There is also the case of Will Smith. Smith is one of those personalities I feel like I've known my entire life and that I've grown up with. And like many, I've acquired an affinity for the actor/rapper over the years and have been happy to support him in his mega-stardom and remain hopeful when he delivers bombs like After Earth. If anything, anyone who is, was or might still be a Smith fan was looking to Focus to redeem our hope in big Willie's style and get the guy back on track, back to where he needed to be both at this point in his life and career. For me, that was the aura surrounding this film and it felt good because Smith had never looked cleaner and the film had all the same slick edges to it that seemed to match Smith pound for pound in its style. Written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love) these guys are the first ones in what seems like too long that actually know how to use Smith in what he does best. In Focus there are plenty of pretty people wearing what are no doubt outrageously expensive clothing in exotic locations, but it is the confidence of Smith not only in his appearance, but in the way he conducts himself and his ability to portray all of that effortlessly with a sense of cool to match that keeps him our main point of, well, focus. And so, despite being concerned I was coming at the film from something of a biased perspective (though really, I have no reason to) I can't help but feel it follows through on what it promised in that it's a stylish con man thriller in the vein of not only pulling one over on its characters, but the audience as well in that they're too self-aware to go for the "one con to end them all" scheme, but that they instead get away with as many twists and turns as they do while coming out unscathed with audiences who are seemingly hip to their game. In a movie that is so much fun to watch with characters so attractive and interesting one is literally unable to take their eyes off the screen.

This is the first film with Margot Robbie that I remember seeing a few years ago. Watching it for a second time I enjoyed it more than the first. There are a lot of poor reviews out there but for a semi-action/adventure flick it's not bad. Is the "focus" on the Will Smith or Margot Robbie character? You'll have to watch to find out.

I could barely watch this one, in fact I didn't finish watching it at my first viewing because I was getting really upset with Will. I know it is just a movie but he played that character so well. My granddaughter had to let me know what was going on and after she told me what happened, I then watched it from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie and enjoyed the outcome.

Focus is a slick piece of entertainment with some twists and turns that while expected, you are still not sure what they might be which will keep you interested. Will Smith plays the good guy/bad guy, depending how you look at it, and does a good job in the part. If you are looking for a fun entertainment that does not require too much thought, check out Focus

Will Smith is back! Fans have long awaited his return to form, and the wait is over. This con artist drama recaptures Smith's skill as an actor. He is incredibly believable in the role. Margot Robbie also does a tremendous job. Smith and Robbie's chemistry together is amazing. I look forward to seeing the two of them together again in the Suicide Squad movie next year.

Great movie. Fun, smart and sexy. Psychology and the study of human behavior is central to this film. Not only do you see how the characters use their power of influence, persuasion and manipulation on others, but you also see how they themselves become victims of emotion, family, insecurities, vices and the need to be loved.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Will Smith was, well, Will Smith. A little bit away from what roles he has played in the last several years but a nice mix of the action and drama that he is so capable of delivering. The interaction with his team seemed on par with the Ocean's franchise and yet the twists were frequent and quite unpredictable.
