Honest Review – Fosmon 5-Port 4K HDMI Switch (HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2) I purchased the Fosmon 5-Port HDMI switch to connect several devices (Apple TV, Blu-ray player, Nintendo Switch, and a Raspberry Pi) to a single HDMI input on my TV. The switch worked initially and is easy to set up. It includes a remote, auto-switching, and an external power supply, which is good in theory and should help maintain signal stability. However, after a few months of use the switch began failing with streaming apps that require stricter HDCP authentication. Services like Prime Video, Peacock, and Tubi would display a blank screen when played through the switch, while YouTube and other non-DRM content still worked. When I removed the switch and connected the Apple TV directly to the TV, everything immediately worked again and the picture quality improved noticeably. This suggests the switch is not reliably passing HDCP or EDID information between the devices and the TV. While the product advertises HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 support, in practice it appears to struggle with real-world streaming DRM requirements. The video also looked slightly better when the switch was removed, which indicates the switch may be limiting bandwidth or forcing lower negotiation settings in the HDMI chain. Overall, the Fosmon switch may work for simple setups or devices that don’t enforce strict copy protection, but it was unreliable with modern streaming services and Apple TV in my system. If you rely heavily on streaming apps or want the most stable HDMI setup, you may be better off connecting devices directly to the TV or using an AV receiver instead of a budget HDMI switch.
