This is a funny silly film made even funner because it's now in 4K UHD. 4K is the future if you don't have it you need to get on the ball seriously. Best picture and sound you can possibly get.

    Good Grey-ray

I heard good things about this move over the years so I decided to buy it. I think if I'd seen it 14 years ago I would of liked it more, back before Disney was making Pirates of the Carribian movies and before Marvel and DC super hero movies were popular. It just seems like a mash-up between Kill Bill, Death Proof, Pulp Fiction...in black and white. Maybe I'm tired of hearing all this stuff about Tarantino's production company. Other than that it looks great for B & W but I suppose most of us don't buy nice big 2160p TV's to watch black and white movies. The actors performances I thought stood out were Mickey Rourke and the female actor that sat in the back seat of that 1971 Dodge Challenger with Zoe Bell hanging on the hood in Death Proof, sorry don't know her name. I didn't know it was based on a comic book until I watched some of the special features. I'd probably watch it again, I'd like to see the 148 minute version of it, maybe I'd enjoy it more.

    A Very Offbeat Noir Movie

    Posted .

I saw "Sin City" in the theater when it first came out and wanted it for my collection so I bought the Blu Ray version. A friend and I watched it on his 80" plasma and it was just as good as the theater and it has the directors cut. The directors cut is a nice added feature but I like the theater version better as many of the scenes in the directors cut don't really add any meaningful information. The cinematography is off the wall as it was a "ground breaking" movie when it came out. The noir genre mood of the movie is enhanced by the colorization that comes in during certain scenes. The overall plot is good but at times there are too many characters to keep track of. It will stay in my collection though as it is a movie to watch over again to pick up things you missed before.

A comic book movie like no other

By now we must be used to movies being based on comic books, not just superheroes but also serious themes like ROAD TO PERDITION. However, none have the style that Frank Miller embeds to this adaptation of his graphic novels. Of course, he was helped by the genius of Quentin Tarantino and, most importantly, Robert Rodriguez. Extremely violent, sexually charged, yet, incredibly good. not for the faint of heart, but for the daring it is highly recommended.

Violent-corruption comes to the "dark" screen.

Opening Scene: A young man standing atop a skyscraper terrace simultaneously assassinates the Red Dressed young-woman he holds in a tender clutch followed by Opening Credits. This movie is shot with dark contrasts and in B&W with Color Accents – to symbolize the corrupt town vice its good side, used to differentiate characters such as Goldie and her twin-sister and to mirror the look of comic books – and it is told in a moving picture high-drama comic book format. This is a study of all aspects of corruption, evil, and crime, and it is told in a very explicit fast-moving dark-fashion. And there is the unexpected twist but fitting ending. Its’ intensive plot-line provides entertainment to be remembered.

    A Robert Rodriguez cult style

Of the other steelbook versions I have for the film Sin City, this Best Buy version in my opinion is the best release to have as a collectible item based on the steelbook art, and it is a great neo-noir film by Robert Rodriguez. This steelbook features a front art with Jessica Alba dancing in the rain, and a back art with Bruce Willis and others from the theatrical release poster. It also has inside art with Mickey Rourke and Brittany Murphy. It's designed very well with the black and white theme consistently throughout just like in the movie. I purchased this steelbook on sale for $9.99 even I already have the other releases, don't hesitate to get this nice steelbook version if anyone likes the film Sin City.

    Got to see it!

I wish the rating scale went up to 10 stars because I'd enthusiastically give them all to Sin City. I've watched it several times and I am still blown away by the dialog and gritty throwback feeling it evokes of the old 30's and 40's hard-drinking, hard-fighting tough guys. The film makes no apology for the raw lust and violence and yet never falls into campy self-parody.But it's the film-work, the use of light and shadow and especially color that really blows you away. Yellow for the corrupt, cowardly blood of the pederast villain. Masterful! If you haven't seen Sin City, give your senses a treat and buy the DVD. You won't be disappointed!

    Film noir CLASSIC!

When this movie came out in 2005, I had to see it in the theaters because the overall look and feel of the film intrigued me in the previews... and it did not disappoint. While it's not for everyone (violence is prevalent in his film), Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino got it right! The movie was visually captivating and the storyline was well written. A highly entertaining movie that looked incredible. The steelbook case which was recently released is very nice as well. If you can withstand some intense comic-like violence, you will not be disappointed.

A great modern film noir movie

I enjoyed the movie Sin City because it is presented in black and white with a gritty city feel. It transports you to a different and new place in time and engages your inner tough side. The storylines connect and flow into each other as the movie moves forward in a steady manner. The characters are different and unique but display some basic life qualities and emotions like honor, loyalty, attitude, justice, cruelty, love and revenge. The way that these qualities are displayed will hold your attention especially if you are a graphic book fan.

    Better than i remembered

I saw this movie in its original cut years ago, and from what I remember wasn't all that impressed with it. With the release of a sequel (ten years later, what's up with that?) an, having read a couple of the graphic novels I decided to watch this recut version of the original film. It was better than I remembered, though I had to look online to see how the connecting stor is s had been restructured. It is a visually attention grabbing film, reminiscent of old noir films in some ways but definitely a product of cgi film making. I liked it the second go round. The price was right and the ultraviolet copy is an added bonus.

One of the best comic book adaptations

    Posted .

First of all, if you're not a fan of violence, comic books, good acting, or interweaving storylines, please leave now and go watch The Princess Diaries. Because this movie is the polar opposite of The Princess Diaries. Lol. This movie has a lot of resemblance to Quentin Tarantino's directing style with the non-chronological order storylines that all seem to connect at some point. Quentin Tarantino also happens to make a guest direction. First of all, this movie is about 3 different stories all taking place in Sin City around the same time. First is Marv, (played fantastically by Mickey Rourke) who is an ex-convict who seems to always have trouble with the law. He, being as ugly as he is, happens to meet a beautiful "goddess" on a strange night, but she ends up getting killed while sleeping right next to her. The cops are soon on the lookout for him, but he fights them off in the bloodiest and barbaric ways. Second, Hartigan (played by Bruce Willis) is a nearly-retired veteran cop who is one of the good ones in Sin City. He helps save a little girl from a son-of-a-senator r@pist, but is then shot by his bad-cop partner (and lives). He is charged by the senator to a life sentence in prison if he doesn't confess to r@ping the poor girl he saved. He later comes out of prison to help track the girl he saved many years ago, to find poor little Nancy (played by Jessica Alba) working at a strip club. He then realizes he puts her in danger and is now on the run with her. Third, Dwight (played amazingly by Clive Owen) has a connection with the Old-Town h00ker girls - who are basically their own breed of law in their county - and uses it to help take down a, who he thinks, is a killer and an abusive boyfriend, but turns out to be a cop. This movie is brilliant in every aspect and for some it may be easy to confuse you with the interconnecting storylines that are out of order. I recommend it completely.
