    Good fridge, terrible freezer...

The fridge portion of this unit works fine. It swings between 33-37 degrees, and since 35 is nominal, I figure that's not unreasonable, especially for an EnergyStar appliance. The shelves are a little flimsy, but it does the trick, and is garage-ready (for most environments), so it fits the bill in that regard quite nicely. The freezer portion, on the other hand, is awful... It swings from -6 to 30 degrees. When I first used a freezer thermometer to measure this, and it showed me this swing, I didn't believe it. A buddy had a USB data logging thermometer that he used for his RV, which you stick in the freezer or fridge, and wait a couple days, and then download the data, so I gave it a whirl. After a couple days, I had enough data that I could graph it, and I confirmed that yes, it does sweep wildly like that, over a period of about 2.5 to 3 hours. It takes about 2 hours for it to warm up from the coldest temperature (-5 to -7 degrees) up to the hottest (28-31), then it goes into a rapid cooling cycle which cools it temperature down to the coldest temperature again in about a half hour. It does this constantly, throughout the day and night. We already returned one (under Geek Squad), and while they shipped out a new one and took back our old one, Geek Squad somehow canceled my GS coverage without refunding me, so I had to hassle with that (1.5 hours in BestBuy customer service, and then emails back and forth, finally resolved). I will likely be returning this one, and having them replace it with a brand that actually works (if they will)...

Hey Robillard! Based on the information that you provided, your refrigerator is a DOE (Department Of Energy) unit. It has thicker walls that hold the temperature longer. If this unit is in a garage with temperatures below 55° or if the unit is not gone in to frequently it will go into garage mode. If the temperature on the fresh food does not rise to make the compressor come on for 210 minutes the compressor will come on for 30 minutes with no fan running to pull down the temperature in the freezer. After the 30 minutes the unit will stay off until the temperature in the fresh food rises enough to turn the compressor on and take it out of the garage mode. Thus the temper in the freezer will suffer and be above normal. The average temperature for this unit in the freezer is 2° to 8°.
The factory recommends to turn the controls to the coldest setting. If the fresh food gets too cold move the control to a warmer position is small increments till proper temperature is met. Also unit needs to be in 55° ambient or above and the fresh food door should be open enough times during the day to keep the unit from going into garage mode. This is the normal design of the unit. I hope this information is helpful! Courtney Frigidaire
