You can control the AC with or without the remote. Most importantly, the AC is quiet.....cools the room in a matter of minutes. An excellent investment.

I purchased a Frigidaire unit many years ago for our nice large Ulrich storage building. Worked perfectly and is now un our livingroom so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed in this one. Easy to install in windows and we have a Doublewide home. Weather stripping and everything needed to properly install and secure unit. Cools quickly also has remote. Quiet. Very happy with purchase.

I also like the remote feature, I installed the unit in the loft and the remote keeps me from going up to manually power the unit on and off.

You can install it by urself if you want. just make sure to use the weather strips carefully as they are a bit sticky and as long as u follow the instructions you are good to go. It cools pretty well in my room but make sure not to buy if u have a room larger than 220sqft.

The return was seamless and we received a new unit a few days later. We have it installed in a bedroom with an attached bath that collectively is about 25 square feet smaller than the 250 square feet it is rated to cool. Despite this it takes quite a bit of time to cool the room even if we shut the bathroom door which reduces the size by another 50 square feet. The unit seems to be working hard all of the time. This model was rated well by Consumer Reports which encouraged our purchase. While fairly easy to install the air conditioner is quite noisy especially on high. Knowing what we know now we would have probably opted for the larger unit even though most experts say you should limit your purchase to the unit rated for your room size. This was a disappointing purchase.

These are typical air conditioner sounds; "gurgling or hissing" noises may be heard during normal operation due to refrigerant passing through the evaporator. The fan at the front of the unit may provide the sound of rushing air. During normal operation, water droplets hitting the condenser may produce "pinging or swishing" sounds. Furthermore, high-pitched chatter may occur throughout the cooling cycle with today's high-efficiency compressors.
