Works really good.
It comes with a window install kit for exhaust but didn't fit our window which is about 58 inches. We had to create something to work. It says you don't need a hose unless you are using it as a dehumidifier but we use it mostly on auto and you definitely need one attached. We just used an old garden hose with a small plastic trash bucket.
The remote is really nice.

The only reason I am not giving this unit a 5 star is cause when the compressor turns on it is a tad loud for my liking. It probably wont bother others though. It cools my room nicely. If your like me and don't want an ugly window unit hanging out the front window then this is the a/c for you. Well worth the money to me.

We purchased this air conditioner in late May and returned in within a couple of weeks. We purchased it for our bedroom, as the windows run low and a dresser is blocking the bottom part, making a window unit difficult to use. While this portable unit appeared to be a good solution, it was way too loud to use in a bedroom. While my husband can sleep through anything, I was woken up a minimum of 3 times each night due to the compressor. For the size of the unit, it seems to run very inefficiently. After returning, we found a window unit where the air blows from the top - it is only 6,000 BTU and cools the room better than this 9,000 BTU unit. Size is also another matter - as another reviewer mentioned, you need a lot of room for both the unit and the giant tube that comes with it. I would not recommend this unit.

Yeah it's loud, you got to expect some noise (there's a compressor inside after all) but they could have insulated that area better to cut down on the sound transmission. As it is cooling my bedroom I cannot leave it on and sleep but I don't need to as the room takes a long time to heat back up during the night. Since I can program it to switch on and off using the built in timer I can set it to come on and start cooling the room before I get home from work.
I have a rather large bedroom, which because the stupid builders didn't run enough ducting too does not get cooled enough during the summer, especially during that heat wave we had around the end of June and this was badly needed to make this room livable again. On a 105 degree day it was 88 in here when I brought the unit home and within an hour it was back down to a much comfier 80. I usually keep it set to around 74-76 and it keeps the room there easily on days when it's the high 90s outside.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Absolutely THE worst purchase I've ever made. This thing is so loud, sleep (even in the next room) is impossible. It doesn't cool even the tiny 6X8 room it's in. The exhaust hose is of even shoddier quality and within six weeks is now in pieces and being held together with duct tape. Our experience with this product has been so awful, we'll likely NEVER buy Frigidiare products again, will actively seek out competitors and just as actively urge others not to buy. What a piece of garbage! And as for installation, everyone is right. I'm handy, very handy, and while this should have been easy, the hideous design makes it impossible. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I have windows that open side to side so window AC units never really fit in too well. I figured this would be perfect since you can simply put a exhaust hose out and it would fit my window! But no... the exhaust did fit my window but that is not the problem. First of all, this thing sounds like a train is running through your room, and it is huge! The way the hose gets puts together and set up, you need a good chunk of space to run this thing without it falling apart. The worst part about this unit is that it intakes so much air from inside your room, any cracks in the side of you door or window completely ruin it's cooling function. It will suck in air from wherever it can find it and not allow your room to cool.
I would not recommend this at all unless you have a small, completely sealed off room.

I bought to reduce the heat in my bedroom (small)

It was hot at the beginning of July and it was HOT!!! , so I rushed and bought it.
1. When you buy something for 350 dollars you expect to have all the accessories in the box , Well NO , I had to go out again to buy a garden hose for the water out of the air conditioner
2. I connected the hose and isolated well but then the air conditioner started leaking water from the screws of the valve where the hose is connected (badly finishing) .
3. After I put it to work I just couldn't sleep , because it was noisy and really did do the job of cooling the room (only if you stand up in front of it) BTW the Central Air Conditioner was working all this time.
4. After 2 hours of noise and worrying about the water leaked (I had 2 buckets to drain the water (A MESS) ) I decided to return it.

I got this item last Saturday (May 29, 10) and so far i'm very happy with this unit. Cools the room very quick, a little loud but that's ok. If you live in a place where you can't install a wall unit this is great for you, if you live in a house where the owner don't allow you to use a/c this is for you too. I recommend this item to all my friends and family.

This is my first ever house with no AC. Yes it's true in San Diego we rarely need it near the coast. However this year we've had two months of unseasonably hot and even humid days. I am not a person who likes to be hot...so this was a great solution for our home.

I bought this to use in my bedroom. My thought was that I could move it easily between the bedroom and an addition in the house instead of having two air conditioners. So I turn the unit on an hour before going to bed to cool the room down, the room didn't really cool down that much. But worse, it was so loud I literally felt like I was running a lawn mower in the bedroom. Since you need a window to use these things it is better to use a regular air conditioner. Then you won't have to empty water from the thing (this unit is really hard to empty the water) and the install is almost the same. This unit screws into the window the same as a regular air conditioner. Calling these units portable is ridiculous. If I put wheels on my washing machine, it becomes portable according to whatever definition was used to call this air conditioner portable.
I bought this thinking that the reviews were from people who got a bad unit, maybe I got a bad unit. But to go back to how loud this thing is, I can sleep through almost anything. But that one night we ran this unit I had to use ear plugs and could barely sleep since it was still so loud.
I would not even recommend it for an area that is noisy, I don't think it cooled as well as a regular 9k BTU window unit. I can't stress enough what a piece of junk this unit is. I replaced it with a 6k BTU frigidaire window unit that cools the room off better.

We have a10,000 BTU Soleus and we wanted a second for a much smaller room. We saw all the great reviews for this unit so we bought it and hooked it up. We actually bought two of them and place another in a small 5'x8' room as well.
This thing makes a lot of noise and indeed has a small amount of cool air coming out of the front vent, but it does absolutely nothing to cool the room. Room at 80F, turn this thing on full blast for 3 hours.. room is 80F. Good grief! All that power and noise and all it can do is maintain the same room temps. This is in a small 10x9 room as well that a 10K BTU Soleus portable could cool down to 70F in less than an hour, yet this one cannot drop one degree in 3 hours on full blast.
The one in the smaller room also cannot cool the room even a single degree.
Also, the hose connector is a total fail. Any standard garden hose does not fit properly and it will leak. This unit also produces 2x as much water as our Soleus does, which is a whopping 1QT per hour roughly of water. I had to place towels to catch the drips from the connectors (it has two and they BOTH leak) and a 1.5 gallon bottle so as to not have to empty it every couple hours.

There needs to be a 24 hour timer. The extension/exhaust hose that goes from the unit to the window needs to be corrected. I had to use white duct tape to try and make the connector stay on the hose. When I finally got them to stay in place it worked beautifully.
Pretty quiet and I didn't have to drain the unit at all.
It cooled my room which was a 12'x20'.

I read many reviews on this product before purchasing it and thought I was getting a good AC but I did not. While some found it loud I did not find it any louder than a window AC; however, it could not cool off my living room which is about 12x14 after running for several hours. I wish it worked because the flexibility of the portable AC would have been great.

This unit cools the room quite well. But there is no internal tank to collect water when the humidifier is on, so you need to set up a bucket.
The unit is quite loud when the fan is on high. Unfortunately even when the fan is on low it will "surge" to high when the compressor kicks on. Frigidaire was quite responsive and exchanged the unit thinking it was defective due to these surges but the new one also does it.
The one other feature that is not great is the "swing" goes up and down....it does not sweep from side to side.

Doesn't cool a small apartment

I bought this air conditioner last year before last summer started. In a small studio apartment in Manhattan, with energy saving windows and the front door blocked with a draft dodger, the small foyer blocked with a curtain, the bathroom and closet door shut, this air conditioner can not cool the apartment below the outside temperature, even when left running for more than a day.
I thought maybe the problem was that it was just so unusually hot last summer so I gave it a try again this year and I'm getting the same result. This apartment doesn't even come close to meeting the maximum space it should be able to cool.
It just doesn't do anything. It's like a dehumidifier and window fan. It's a huge waste of money.
