not bad - would purchase again
||Posted .Figure any of these sit on the floor inside units will make noise. I like this one due to the fact that the air comes out the top and you can adjust the vents to the degree you desire with the remote (just press and hold the Swing button on the remote). Happened to get a refrub unit that was good as new though did get the bb geek warranty just to be safe. I sat mine up on a small table so the exhaust hose, very easy to twist into coupling on both ends, would pretty much be a straight line of slight to the window for exhaust air to exit the room. If you accept that these things have to make noise and are willing to accept that trade off then, to me, it is worth it to cool down my enclosed florida room (wood framed with lots of large windows). My room has a small height flat roof so cannot speak to how cold it will make the room. I have it set to only 77 or 76 to save cost and turn on only when wanted. That is enough to drop the room temp a few degrees in about 30 minutes, probably faster if I set it to 72 or such.

Fridigaire is the one to go with
Posted .Recently, an HVAC unit burned out in our co-op studio apartment and I was freaking out as repairs would take six-to-eight weeks as the summer temperatures were rising. So, I invested in this Fridigaire unit after reading many, many reviews on three major brand sites. While the unit turned out to be larger than I expected, it works remarkably well and more than effectively cools off a small bedroom within a 450 square-foot apartment. I had to realize - the cooling power requires a good-sized motor so it all makes sense. It's powerful enough to actually cool a large part of my main studio apartment as well. Having read reviews prior to purchase, I knew that assembling the tube from the device to a window would be challenge (and it was) and I took the advice of another reviewer and had duct tape handy to secure the connection. The unit does emit a hum and the volume varies as it cycles to maintain the temp you set but I LOVE this "white noise" as I live on a busy main street and the unit helps to drown out external noise/stimulus. I am really happy that the device is a brand I can trust and that it cools so effectively. It's been such a RELIEF (in 90 - 100 degree weather, lately) to come home to a cool apartment where I know my dog can also rest comfortably. Go with a brand that is known for cooling and similar cooling devices. Oh...and the portability of the device is a huge plus, too.

Work very well
||Posted .I have 5 of these in a 2500 sq ft home. Forget what other reviewers say about complicated/flawed installation. Installation could not be simpler especially when compared to a window unit. The key to the duct work is to thread the ends onto the duct. No complications (or tape) for me. They are a bit noisier than a window unit, and maybe not quite as efficient (after all, all that heat generating gear is inside your house). These trade offs though are well worth the installation ease - literally in and out in 5 minutes, roll it into a closet. Also, absolutely no damage to windows or exterior walls due to screws, brackets, etc., no need to remove screens, and nothing ugly hanging out the side of your house.

product works great!
Posted .please do not listen to other reviews saying this product is terrible, it is broken, it is defective, it puts out too much heat, it does not work, etc.... this unit works fine. if your unit is not working correctly take it back to the store and get a new one. for the unit to work correctly you MUST use the exhaust tube out a window or hole in wall. the ac also has a dehumidifier. there is a tube for water draining for the ac function however mine has never leaked water for over a month since i bought it. also the air vent moves up and down automatically, which is a cool feature. the unit is slightly noisy (reason i gave it 4 stars) however you should get used to it after a few days. i personally like sound of the compressor humming it is soothing and blocks out any other annoying background noise. i use this in a decent sized bedroom that has a queen sized bed and lots of extra space and if i set the unit to 70 degrees the thermometer in my room says 70 degrees within a few minutes. i would say that's a good sign the unit is working well. i achieve this even when the fan is set to low. overall you should be happy if you buy this ac

When properly installed - GREAT!
Posted .OK, some of the reviews rate this unit poorly. It is obvious that these reviewers did not install the unit properly. The unit is designed to pull heat out of the air and send the hot air out of the exhaust. The exaust must be directed out of the room that you are trying to cool. I think some of the reviewers need to look at the directions a bit closer. I purchased this unit as a backup for a computer server room. We had trouble with our existing HVAC system and needed a cooling system to act as a back-up just incase the main system fails again (a good investment to potentially save $100,000 in computer hardware). We are going to purchase another unit to cool and dehumidify a powder coat storage room to keep the powder dry. All-in-all, good investment. And, I think it would do very well in a 12x9 bedroom. Good luck everyone, and don't forget to read those directions!!

Happy with it overall
Posted .My fiance purchased this unit about a year and a half ago. Firstly, the size of this unit is average when it comes to portable units. I don't mind the size though, it's fine. I'll take the size of this unit over a hot apartment any day! We can't have a window unit here so this is our only option. Now, installation was a bit of a pain. In order to get the exhaust hose onto the window insert we had to fight and struggle to get the thing on. When we did manage we found that the hose was very sturdy and connected. There's no way it's coming off by accident. The connection to the unit was a little tricky as well but overall, much easier than the one to the window. The drainage hose was very, very simple. You put the hose on the unit then screw on the plastic piece. Done! I didn't like how short the hose was, we wound up purchasing a longer hose from a plumbing supply store. I don't mind the sound on this unit, yes it is a bit noisy but not terrible. What I will say about this unit is that the water drainage is REDICULOUS! The water will not drain up so you have to do one of two things, get a bucket to put the hose in, or get a really long hose that must be pitched down and out a door. There is no way to turn off the dehumidifying part of the unit so the water will always be pouring out. This won't be a problem if you live in a dry climate but I live on the west side of the cascades... it's fairly wet all year long around here. And FYI you have to put the drainage hose in, if you don't then the unit will eventually stop cooling. Another thing I don't really like about this unit is that it doesn't circulate air as much as I would like. I turn on a large fan as well to blow the cold air around so the whole room will cool. Like I said, I don't mind dealing with these issued because it's better than suffering in heat and misery. Overall, if you don't mind having to pay attention to the unit it's fine.

Works Good, Easy to Install
Posted .I bought this portable AC unit to replace an older window AC unit for our living room. Setup is easy - unpack unit and connect exhaust hose to window using included mounting hardware. The unit comes with a rather long power cord, so making it to an outlet is easy. It's certainly easier to install than a window air conditioner since no lifting is required and you don't have to worry about mounting a heavy ac unit in the window frame. The unit comes with a full featured IR remote that works well. There is a small LCD on the remote that indicates fan speed, mode, and set temperature. During operation, the unit is pretty quite. Your certainly not going to forget it's running when your in the same room - but it's not distracting. During cool mode, a drain hose is not needed. However, if you want to use it in dry mode you will need to hook up a drain hose via the garden hose connector on the back of the unit. There is a place to store the exhaust hose on the back of the unit when it's not in use for the winter. My only real complaint is that the unit is rather large. It does have wheels, however, for easy moving around the house if you want. The exhaust hose gets rather warm during operation (think warm to the touch, not hot).

Worked well
||Posted .Our Central Air went out in a period of high humidity and high temperatures. Purchased this to cool off about a 700 square foot area. It took about an hour to set it up and get it started. It brought the temperature from 95F to below 80F in 2-3 hours. The temperature wasn't cooling off at night and we needed to leave it on at night. Even on the low setting it was noisy and hard to sleep with it on, but it was very effective.

Q: QuestionIs this a stand-alone unit or does it need to be hooked up to a condenser or evaporator? Does it need a drain?
Asked by Ken.
- A:Answer All of our portable air conditioner units come with both a condenser and evaporator built in so you would not need to provide one separately. It does not need a drain as it uses evaporative technology, meaning all water created during the process is evaporated off. It does, however, need access to the outdoors - typically through a window - for proper functioning. The necessary hose and window kit are included with the unit.

Q: QuestionWhat type of plug does this unit take? Regular 3 prong or is it a special outlet that is needed?

Q: Questionis the portable Frigadare a/c very noisy? Model # FRA093PT1What would you compare the noise to?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The noise of this unit is like a loud, broken dehumidifier. In my review I said it was like running a lawn mower in my bedroom. I had to wear ear plugs to bed. That thing is so loud you almost have to buy one to experience it and then you will say to yourself, "I would have never believed that thing could be that loud."

Q: QuestionMy new unit is dripping water out of bottom onto carpet. Is there something wrong?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Water should only need to be drained if you are operating the unit in Dehumidifyer mode. That mode requires the hook up of a garden hose to expell the condensed water. If you are only operating it in Cooling mode then the water should evaporate through the air duct to the outside. If you see a P1 error code then you must drain water from the bottom drain valve to get the unit operating again.

Q: Questionis there an extension kit for a horizontal window 59 inch tall?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Thanks for your question! We apologize for the delay in response. We do have available longer expandable side/top panels. However, the larger the space left open, the bigger the inefficiency due to more air interchange between indoors and outdoors. It would be better to locate the exhaust hose in a smaller window.
