Figure any of these sit on the floor inside units will make noise. I like this one due to the fact that the air comes out the top and you can adjust the vents to the degree you desire with the remote (just press and hold the Swing button on the remote). Happened to get a refrub unit that was good as new though did get the bb geek warranty just to be safe.
I sat mine up on a small table so the exhaust hose, very easy to twist into coupling on both ends, would pretty much be a straight line of slight to the window for exhaust air to exit the room.
If you accept that these things have to make noise and are willing to accept that trade off then, to me, it is worth it to cool down my enclosed florida room (wood framed with lots of large windows).
My room has a small height flat roof so cannot speak to how cold it will make the room. I have it set to only 77 or 76 to save cost and turn on only when wanted. That is enough to drop the room temp a few degrees in about 30 minutes, probably faster if I set it to 72 or such.

I have 5 of these in a 2500 sq ft home. Forget what other reviewers say about complicated/flawed installation. Installation could not be simpler especially when compared to a window unit. The key to the duct work is to thread the ends onto the duct. No complications (or tape) for me. They are a bit noisier than a window unit, and maybe not quite as efficient (after all, all that heat generating gear is inside your house). These trade offs though are well worth the installation ease - literally in and out in 5 minutes, roll it into a closet. Also, absolutely no damage to windows or exterior walls due to screws, brackets, etc., no need to remove screens, and nothing ugly hanging out the side of your house.

A bit heavy but sturdy. Easy set up and keeps my two and a half rooms upstairs nice and cool. I like the swing louvers on the top of unit and choice to dehumidify or not. A bit noisey like a window unit but product does a great job for my needs.

Easy to set up, nice cold air and simple controls. The dehumidifier is a nice feature should we need it at some point. On board remote storage is a huge plus. A little longer vent hose could have been helpful. Brand name quality at dollar store price.

I love that this is on wheels so I can wheel it room to room or to the closet for the winter time. It's very easy to move and also easy to put in the window and take back out for nice days when you would rather have a window fan. While I like the portability of the unit it doesn't cool as well as my window unit did. It barely keeps my 200 square foot living room cool, so I would say to use this as a one room only window unit. I've read other reviews stating it can cool an apartment I just don't see how. We have such high humidity so maybe that's why I can't cool as many square feet as someone that might live in a lower humidity area? The unit looks nice, and I get compliments on it's appearance. I gave it 4 stars because it's hard to attach the exhaust hose and it keeps coming off, it threads onto a piece that slides into the unit and it's a thin plastic hose end and it just comes off when I move the unit and it's kind of hard to thread back on. But overall I'm satisfied and I would buy another one if I needed one!

Really effective room air-conditioner that can be moved from the bedroom at night to living room during the day. Portablity is a real benefit but like most window units, this air conditioner is also noisy.

Bought the unit for my mancave. The room is approximately 275 sq ft. Along with a ceiling fan the AC cools the room satisfactorily. The installation was easy and the unit is not too heavy. Which makes it easy to move around the room or from room to room. It's a little noisy but not overwhelming. I'm satisfied with the purchase.

My central air went down and was going to be a week before I could get a new one installed at one of the hottest stretches of the year so bought this for a decent price and it worked well enough in any single bedroom. Perfect for rooms 15x15 and the like. Didnt do as well when tried in the living room. Was easy enough to move as long as all the windows your moving to and from are the same size. Haven't used the dehumidifier mode as didn't want to hook up an external hose to drain the water. If just using it for a/c you really don't have to drain in but every other day. Just rolled it to the back door and popped the drain plug, easy enough. Got us through the week and also has a heater so going to keep it near by for the winter for the thinner skinned ones in the family! Think it will work well in the basement for that if it heats the same type of area as it cools.

Wish I bought a window unit

I bought an open box.
The unit is large so you'll need space. The instructions are horrible and the parts, particularly the window exhaust hose will undoubtedly be bent unless the windows are at floor level or the unit is propped up which is contrary to what the instructions state.
The unit is loud but so are window units. As for cooling, I think the window units in the bedrooms seem to cool more efficiently. This unit is in the living room which is closed off when the unit is on and is smaller than the suggested square footage of the unit.
If your looking for something mobile for a relatively small area, this may work. I'm not entirely sold on I though.

This is our second portable air conditioner. The first was similar, but stopped being reliable after about ten years. This one is definitely reliable but pretty loud. We have it in the same room we watch tv, and can't hear the tv unless it's turned up to 45. Which is pretty loud. But it is definitely keeping our house cool, even when the great index is almost a hundred. So I'm really glad I got it, just wish it wasn't so loud.

I am very happy with my Frigidaire air conditioner. It really does cool a
quite large room. It was easy to set up with the exhaust through the
window. But I just wasn't expecting it make so much noise. At times I have to turn it off if the person is soft spoken who comes into my office.
But over all it was a good buy and I am pleased.

Noisy and not too portable

Not that portable: Besides being too heavy, the exhaust hose was too short (5 ft max extended). It doesn't quite lock itself to the windows mount either, and it keeps popping out if I move the unit just a little bit. I can also feel heat radiating from that flimsy hose, and the connector on both ends are not completely airtight as well. So even though the unit does cool, it's more like just the 10'x10' space in front of it.
Saw other reviews about water leaking from the unit, but I haven't had that problem yet. However, I did notice the drain "cap" is only 1/4" deep. And I emphasized "cap" because that piece of rubber is unfortunately shaped more like a 1/2" plug and does fit into the drain hole as well. So, if you aren't paying attention, you could have not capped it properly and it could come lose easily when you move it.
But the worst thing is the noise. I measured it at 65-82 depending on the fan speed and whether the compressor is on -- It sounds like what you'll hear from a Windows unit *outside*, but likely feels noisier since you'll be inside with the Windows closed. I give it 2 stars because it still cools better than just a fan. But if I had known, I'd have got myself a Windows unit instead.

it's loud but works well once it's given a chance to get up and running. we left it running overnight in my recently purchased house and when we came back the next morning to do some work the downstairs was cool and comfortable. haven't tried the sleep mode yet at this time

We really like this unit. It's pretty quiet. The timer feature is very useful. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5---the vent hose is a nuisance to stay in place compared to another similar unit we have. We have resorted to ductape to keep it attached. :)

a little bit expensive but works fine for my needs. i found a cheaper portable A/C (also a known brand) with higher BTU at LOWE's. I would have chosen to buy that one if i hadn't bought this one already.

Fridigaire is the one to go with

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Recently, an HVAC unit burned out in our co-op studio apartment and I was freaking out as repairs would take six-to-eight weeks as the summer temperatures were rising. So, I invested in this Fridigaire unit after reading many, many reviews on three major brand sites. While the unit turned out to be larger than I expected, it works remarkably well and more than effectively cools off a small bedroom within a 450 square-foot apartment. I had to realize - the cooling power requires a good-sized motor so it all makes sense. It's powerful enough to actually cool a large part of my main studio apartment as well. Having read reviews prior to purchase, I knew that assembling the tube from the device to a window would be challenge (and it was) and I took the advice of another reviewer and had duct tape handy to secure the connection. The unit does emit a hum and the volume varies as it cycles to maintain the temp you set but I LOVE this "white noise" as I live on a busy main street and the unit helps to drown out external noise/stimulus. I am really happy that the device is a brand I can trust and that it cools so effectively. It's been such a RELIEF (in 90 - 100 degree weather, lately) to come home to a cool apartment where I know my dog can also rest comfortably. Go with a brand that is known for cooling and similar cooling devices. Oh...and the portability of the device is a huge plus, too.

The purchase of this portable air conditioner was a good one. It cools nicely and fairly quickly in the space. My only problem is that it is a bit noisy. Other than that, it is great.
