    Best retro chic microwave

Love this retro chic microwave, perfect for what I need, fit on top of my mini fridge too! It’s easy to use and heat up food very nicely, it would take a bit longer but from a small microwave it’s very understandable. Love the child lock feature, for those who’s afraid they’ll accidentally turn it on (because of the dial) you can easily lock it when not in use (just press the cancel button for a few seconds). I’m one of those paranoid person who’s afraid that one of my pets would accidentally turn the dial while I’m sleeping, well I’m at ease knowing that lock feature exist. Get this microwave, you won’t regret it!

Very Cool, But Got Hot Rod Red and Not Vinyl Black

The Galanz - Retro 0.7 Cu. Ft. Microwave came in Hot Rod Red and not Vinyl Black and that is okay, it is also shiny like patent leather.. So, first aesthetical impressions-it is retro looking with dials vs. buttons or touchscreens, its shape is rounded versus squared off on the corners, has a small and compact profile at .7 cubic feet, thus taking up less real estate on your surface. Just a side note, I did read in the user manual that this microwave should have sufficient airflow around it for correct operation, almost 8 inches above and 2 inches on either side. This is a 700 watt microwave so it may not be as powerful as what is traditionally the main kitchen microwave, but for basement kitchenettes, dorm rooms, master bedroom beverage centers, your small business lunchroom or office, etc. this is the perfect size and power and the price tag makes this very affordable. Set up, including the time, was easy peasy. The time can b set up as either a 12 or 24, military, hour cycle. There are 6 presets-A-1, beverage, A-2, Potato, A-3, Reheat food based on weight, A-4, Frozen Dinners, A-5, Popcorn , and A-6, Pizza based on weight. So, there is also a weight adjustment on the dial to do that, too. Overall, while this is a small, compact unit, I can say that it has many nice features that we see in a more expensive unit. Oh, the warranty period is one year

When my daughter went off to college we let her take out microwave for her dorm room, since we were in need of another I found this one at a great price! It looks great in the kitchen, is easy to use, and works better than the old one we had. Now she wants to trade me!

Its definitely not a eye sore. It goes with our kitchen perfectly. Besides looks, there is no keypad, you have to turn the knob to add 10 seconds. Power, it is very weak. Popcorn takes about 6min, heating up food takes about 2 or 3 trys at 5min to get all of it warm

    Great Microwave With Style!

If you're tired of the same old boring, no character, status quo square to heat up your food… This is the microwave for you!! I don’t know there is much difference in the heating mechanism of microwaves to heat food in general in any microwave, but this unit really has style and features that are great! I love the retro feel of this unit and the knob/dial is awesome! The knob/dial is great because you can easily turn it to the right to add the cook time in 10 second increments and push it in and off it goes. Other microwaves I have had you have to punch each number to get the right amount of time and then hit a start button. Then test the food with a finger (now you have a greasy finger) and then add more time until it’s at the right temp. All that button pushing with a greasy index finger from temp checking the food are gone! With this Galanz microwave, I can add time with a twist of the knob with the side of my hand, then temperature test the food with my finger and bump with my side of my hand on the dial to restart the microwave and no grease on anything! I really like that. Super functional. It also has some presets settings when you twist the dial left for coffee or popcorn which is nice. I also like the size of the unit. A full-size diner plate will fit in it but it doesn’t take up a ton of room on my counter top. Galanz also has a matching 4.4- and 4.0-Cubit Ft. mini fridges that match the microwave which would be perfect for an office, dorm or apartment or home bar area! Super cool. I plan to pick one up for sure for my office. Another nice touch is the child lock. Over all I really like this microwave. It does a great job of heating up the food evenly and has a ton of style and the knob/dial is great engineering!

Groovy Retro Hot Rod Red Microwave

Not Vinyl Black. Got this little microwave in Hot Rod Red for my kitchen counter but despite the compact size (less than 11 inches high by 18" long by 14" deep) it takes up more space than I expected. Construction seems sturdy and has a handle to pull open the door instead of a push button to wear out. Has a 9.6 inch turntable that will handle a plate and a window to watch it turn. Easy to remove glass turntable and roller ring to wash any spills. I like the bright clock that can be set to 24 hour cycle military time. Since this is only 700 watts I mainly used it to reheat cups of coffee, warm up take out food or cook small food items using the quick start dial. Press Quick Start dial once and it adds 30 seconds at full power. Each press adds 30 more seconds to the total time. Turn it to the right and it has 10 second increments. Lots of auto cook presets that I never figured out since they seemed to have codes that involved multiple steps to use. Easy to find CANCEL button in the middle of the control panel if you make a mistake. I rarely use anything but the 30 second quick button on any microwave to cook full power for desired length of time. Power button to cook items that need reduced power for longer cooking. I'm going to move this Hot Rod Red microwave to my office for work lunches and coffee warmups. Never heard of this brand Galanz before but if you like the Retro look and need a handy little microwave this might be the one for you!

It has that nostalgic/ retro look of a toaster oven. Yet it's a microwave . Has everything that a microwave wave should have except a touch pad. Instead it's a knob and you turn it to add the time and then press start. Very simple yet elegant design. If you're looking for something different and well built it's mostly metal unlike some other microwaves I've had, you will want this one. I have the red one. I warmed up my food had full plate put 2 minutes and it was hot. Im going to look into getting the matching mini fridge!

I bought this for a tiny kitchen in a she shed. I had owned another older Galanz model that could be difficult to use because it had dials. That said it had big cooking power for its diminutive size. It also had recessed feet making it really easy to fit in almost anywhere. This updated version is a beautiful color and has all the digital modern conveniences while maintaining the power, size and use ability of its predecessor. I am very pleased! If you are looking for a mini microwave workhorse, this is it. Look no further!

Have had this a week and love it. Although you'll need to read through the manual a few times in the beginning the controls are actually easier to use, once you learn them, than conventional microwaves. I've seen other similar retro products for double the price. If you are looking for a heavy duty microwave though this isn't for you. It's only 700W and although it has a rotating tray the space is small. Conversely, this thing fits anywhere due to it's small size.

Recommended for really small kitchens. Well built. Metal frame. Simple design. Arrived quickly. Only 2 VERY small complaints: 1) Dial is touchy... better design would have distinct clicks when increasing cooking time. 2) Letters on spin dial are not always upright. They spin with the dial and won't spin back to upright when cooking time is done.

A Nice Microwave With a Lot of Features

The Galanz microwave overall is a nice appliance with a lot of features. There are a lot of positive aspects to the microwave, but some that I was not a fan of. I'll go through the things that were good first, and then comment on some of the annoyances. The Galanz microwave provides 700W of power output for a 0.7 cubic foot cooking area. I ordered the retro red color, and think both the style and color are rather fun. The finish of the microwave does not allow a lot of fingerprints to show quickly, which is a good thing. I really appreciate that the microwave has a rotating cook plate, which allows for more even cooking. In comparison to my larger (but older) 1200W 1.2 cubic foot microwave oven, cooking time for a completely frozen canister of soup took 6 minutes instead of 5. Not bad for a significantly less powerful microwave. The rotating dial allows a quick addition of 10 second increments to cooking time, or pushing in the know allows addition of 30 seconds at a time. The controls are very easy to use and are reasonably intuitive for quick and easy microwave use. The display is a nice size to show cook times and the clock, and the four beeps that indicate cooking is complete is a pleasant and loud enough sound. Reading the instruction manual, I was quite impressed with how you can program the microwave for different power levels and cook times (even in multiple increments) from the simple controls. For example, you can tell the microwave to run at 20% power for two minutes and then 100% power for 40 seconds. While I would not use this feature much, I do think I would need to have the book handy in order to remember such programming instructions. But I list this as a positive because it impressed me that this feature was available in such a compact and simple looking microwave. There are a few minor annoyances with the microwave. There are no grips on the bottom of the microwave, so the units slides all over the place when opening and closing the door, or even when pressing any of the buttons. A simple fix, but disappointing. When not cooking, the display shows the time and then a red clock indicator. I kept thinking there was some type of error because the clock indicator was red. There was no error, it's just the color of the indicator. I was so annoyed by the red indicator that I enabled the power saving feature so the clock display turns off a few minutes after cooking is complete, but then I don't have a clock. Another slight annoyance is the codes on the quick programming buttons. They are labeled A-1, A-2, etc., and even though the codes are deciphered on the inside of the microwave, having them either on the buttons themselves or the display would be more helpful. One additional minor annoyance (OK, this one is a little OCD) is the rotating cook time dial. Earlier I mentioned that with this dial, you can increment the cooking time by 10 seconds at a time by rotating the dial. There is printing on that dial, and at the end of just about every cooking cycle, the printing on the dial is now at the angle you rotated the dial to. The last annoyance is for the water heating presets. The 7 oz preset heated to 160F, the 14 oz preset heated to 155F, and the 21oz preset heated to 153F. For coffee or tea, the water should be about 165-170F, so the water heating doesn't get quite hot enough. In conclusion, the Galanz microwave is a fun color and has good styling. There are a lot of features packed into the microwave, and it cooks fast and well for its size. The pros of the microwave heavily outweigh the cons, so I would consider it a good purchase.
