This is pretty much the best controller for your phone or mini tablet if you want a full size controller feel. It comes with 3 different passing size around the USB-C connector. I'm able to use it with a standard Casetify case (still pretty thick). Only trade-off is obviously the probability of the controller itself since it's pretty chunky.

Despite being made primarily for iOS devices, I use this with my Lenovo Legion Tab 3 and it works grab. The USB-C connection means almost no latency and the ergonomics on this device is great. Definitely recommended.

It's awesome, I've used it while on the road and it has yet to fail me, the steam app is a little buggy when it comes to connection on the road but it's moreso a steam issue than a controller issue

I have always played "games" on my phone. Snake, the various gem swapping games, solitaire, and these days the merging and other idle swiping games, all simple ways of passing the time. I haven't played much of the more complicated games since I guess I never really cared much about anything requiring precise inputs because I always hated touch screen controls. I've tried pairing the bluetooth enabled console controllers to my phone, but then the hassle of pairing it back to my PC or using it with my iPad makes it so that I don't even bother. It's a shame too, because there's more and more full console ports making their way to both Android and iOS. Thinks have changed for the better, because the Gamesir G8+Mfi has turned my phone into a full on portable gaming device, with proper games and not just appstore drivel. The Gamesir connects via USB-C. The connector has a swivel on it to fit various sized devices. After installing the app, all you have to do is slot your phone or tablet into place and you are pretty much set. There's an indicator light that shines if you have it properly connected. I like that they throw in several sets of spacers, in case you have a thicker case and don't want to remove it just to play a game. There's even a bit that you can remove at the back if you have a large camera bump. There's an internal spring system that clamps your device in place. On both my phone and my iPad Mini 7, the left bumper that goes along the top of the device does not cover up any of the buttons. I can even still use the fingerprint scanner on the iPad Mini since it is unobstructed. The Gamesir features Hall effect sticks, which is great for responsiveness, and should mitigate any future drift issues. I like that there are extra thumbsticks included that mimic those of other console controllers. There's a tiny nub if you are like me and have issues with the right stick being in the way, and one in the style of an N64 controller. With the tiny thumbstick on the right and the N64 one on the left, you pretty much have a Gamecube controller (except for the wonky button layout). The faceplates on the controller come off since they are attached with magnets, to allow for more accessories that are yet to be announced. The directional pad is clicky, and I'm not sure if I prefer it or if I like the squishy sort. On the one hand, the tactile nature of the clicky pad lets you really know when you are pressing right vs down, but I haven't been able to do a shoryuken (the hadouken worked fine). I do like the analog triggers, which like the thumbsticks are also Hall effect. There's also a set of programmable back bumpers that I always forget about. There's a headphone jack at the bottom, as well as a USB-C port. Plugging a power cable in will let you charge your device while you play. You can also plug the Gamesir into your PC and it will be recognized as an XInput device. Playing games on my device using the Gamesir is so much nicer than touch controls. For one, you can see the whole screen, your thumbs don't get in the way. And buttons and thumbsticks will always have an advantage over swiping and tapping. Everything is balanced nicely while holding it up, and the back of the Gamesir has a textured surface along the grips. Portability is the only drawback that I can think of. It's too big to fit into most of my smaller day packs, and I don't want to shove it in my tote bag because I worry about damaging the thumbsticks. Of course, I could pick up a protective case, but it does seem a bit extra. I'm really enjoying my Gamesir controller. It has really opened up my phone to a more traditional gaming experience. Between ports of games, emulators, and streaming games either through cloud gaming or from my PC, there's so much more to play other than the mindless tap and match junk apps that mostly exists to serve ads. I may even start leaving my portable consoles at home, if only to make room for the extra bulk of the Gamesir.

I didn’t really like the ui of the app and how it feels compared to the backbone controller. It’s cheaper but different a reason why it’s cheaper

Better than the backbone by a large margin. Great feel on all games

The two rear buttons didn’t work or even register in the manufacturers app.the d-pad was a little spongy too; didn’t have the clicky feel like other devices.

This is the first time I've had a device like this, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It's lightweight, yet sturdy. It doesn't feel cheap or flimsy at all. I had to remove my Google Pixel from its case to attach the controller, but once my phone was in, it was snug and solid feeling. No apps or installation needed, just plugged in my phone and it connected and worked perfectly. The fact that the bottom of the controller has a stereo headphone jack and usb-c charging port is a great addition. I can fast charge my phone while playing a game. The buttons on the controller feel on par with other name brand controllers on the market. The joysticks are smooth and responsive, definitely no complaints there. I had to adjust my hand position a bit because it is a bit smaller than a regular xbox controller or something, but it's still way better than using touch controls. I was able to try this controller with the new mobile Division game, and it worked flawlessly. If you are a mobile gamer and would benefit from a more full size traditional controller setup, I highly recommend this GameSir G8.

I am writing this review for the GameSir G8 Plus (MFi) Controller. This is my first journey with a telescopic mobile gaming controller, and I have to say it has been quite the experience, mostly good. I have seen several versions of mobile controllers for phones and tablets, and have always wanted to try them out, so I was excited to have the opportunity to review this product, especially since I have a PS5 Pro, and the GameSir is MFi certified. Because I have never owned one, nor have I really ever been exposed to mobile controllers, I discovered right away that everything I thought I knew about them was wrong. I was one of those who thought the controller actually came pre-loaded with its own games. It doesn’t, hence the name Controller, and not Console. When I discovered this, a million questions started going through my mind…Where do I get the games? Do the games have to be made specifically for the GameSir? And of course many other questions as well. So let me say that for me, the learning process was a bit interesting. At first glance, the G8 appears to be a super-sized Xbox controller… the offset thumbsticks, hand positioning, the way if feels in your hands. But it is not an exact replica by any means. Holding the controller in your hands feels natural, comfortable, and familiar. Thumbsticks are fluid in their motion…pure, smooth 360 degree movement. Buttons are satisfyingly tactile, with a definite, purposeful pushback, and the D-pad (reminiscent of the Nintendo NES) is equally present and tactilely responsive. This controller is top-tier, and it is so obvious that GameSir invested a lot of time and effort in the design of this beast. GameSir includes a basketful of extras in the box…three additional thumbsticks, each one different so you can use the one that feels best to you, and “sizing” inserts to help adjust the controller to different phone thicknesses (case, no case, etc…), and of course, a GameSir decal! The controller also allows for the removal of the left and right faceplates which are securely held on by magnets. To be quite frank, this is a very well-built and solid controller. It feels great in the hands, even after long game play, every control seems to be perfectly placed, there is no fumbling trying to remember where a certain button or control is located. Even the “laser-etched” grips are top of the line and allow for a comfortable and secure grip. Also included in the design is the USB-C connector port which actually moves to fit the position of any phone. A brilliant and unbelievably thoughtful design inclusion!! As with almost any tech these days, there is an app to download. Although technically it might be possible to actually use the controller without the app, I just don’t see why anyone would want to NOT use it. It makes everything about using the controller much simpler. Notice I didn’t say “easier,” and for good reason. Navigating the app, at first, was a nightmare. The included documentation is marginal at best. For someone like me who is brand new to this type of tech, I have to admit I was tempted to just forget it a couple of times. But after several hours of online searching and watching several videos, I finally got it all figured out. As I said above, there is an obvious investment of time and effort in the design and construction of the G8. In contrast, there is an obvious lack of time and effort in producing a useful and functional user guide. I have the PS5 Pro. To use it with the G8, you have to download and install the PS Remote Play app. Together, GameSir and Sony have created a game-changing marriage. I have played several PS games on my phone before, but a couple of fingers takes up a LOT of screen space, not to mention the clunkiness of virtual controls. But NOW, being able to use a real-life controller with my phone?? The G8 takes it to a completely different universe. This totally changes the way I play PS games on my phone. I have become a convert! If you own a PS or Xbox, you have got to get the GameSir G8 Plus MFi mobile game controller. It will truly change the way you play games on your phone. I will be actively promoting the G8 to everyone I know.

I have been using this with my Samsung Galaxy S25 FE primarily for playing Brawl Stars, and overall, it has been an excellent experience. The setup process was very straightforward and intuitive. Pairing and configuring the controller did not take long, and I was able to start gaming almost immediately without dealing with connection problems or confusing menus. The overall build quality feels very solid. Nothing about the controller feels cheap or flimsy, and the materials feel durable enough for long-term use. One feature that immediately stood out to me was the swiveling USB-C connector. This makes it much easier to insert your phone into the controller without feeling like you are forcing the connection or risking damage to the USB-C port. It also reduces the chance of bending or snapping the connector, which is a thoughtful design choice that gives extra peace of mind. In terms of comfort, the ergonomics are excellent. The controller feels comfortable to hold during longer gaming sessions, and the button layout is easy to get used to. The thumbsticks feel responsive and accurate, and I also appreciated that the box includes multiple thumbstick sizes so you can experiment and find the option that feels best for you. That level of customization is a nice addition and not something every mobile controller includes. Gameplay performance was also very good. I did not notice any input lag, disconnections, or compatibility problems while playing. The only adjustment was getting used to using a controller instead of touch controls for Brawl Stars, but after spending some time with it, the controls felt natural and consistent. I also used the companion app to customize some controls, and the app worked very well. The customization options were easy to access, and changes applied quickly without issues. In addition, the controller includes a USB-C charging port on the bottom along with a headphone jack, which makes it convenient to charge the phone or use wired earbuds while gaming. Overall, it feels very well-designed and practical for mobile gaming. Between the sturdy construction, comfortable design, customizable controls, thoughtful USB-C swivel mechanism, and additional ports, it offers a premium experience that stands out from both touch controls and other mobile controllers I have tried.

The GameSir G8 Plus MFi is an upgraded/downgraded USB C telescopic mobile gaming controller. It has removed the battery and Bluetooth functionality of the original G8 Plus and added official MFi-certification for reliable functionality with USB C iPhone and iPad mini. This in no way affects use with Android devices. It stretches to fit virtually any cell phone with slim(ish) cases and smaller tablets like the iPad mini. Pros -Excellent build and feel: Solid construction, comfortable ergonomics, textured grips. Magnetic pads that can be removed or swapped out to adjust for better device fitment. The USB C port pivots to allow the phone to tilt in and back against the rear plate making it less of a nail biter to seat your device in and out of the controller. Definitely one of the best feeling mobile controllers I have ever used. -Customizable: Swappable magnetic faceplates, ABXY buttons and sticks(different sizes/textures included), two programmable back buttons, dual asymmetric rumble motors, a 3.5mm headphone jack and customization via the GameSir app (dead zones, vibration, firmware). Better than your average console gamepad. -Hall Effect sticks and triggers: Precise, smooth with no drift. Hair trigger mode available. -Low latency wired connection: Direct USB-C, reducing input lag. Auto-switching modes for iOS/Android. GameSir invested in MFi certification to ensure reliable compatibility with Apple devices. -Dual motors: Provide decent feedback for games that support it. -Pass-through charging though limited to 5V/3A. Cons -No battery: No Bluetooth option on this model. -Portability: Larger and heavier when attached to a phone/tablet. Definitely not pocketable. A carrying case would have been nice to see due to the larger size. -Pass-through charging is basic. Fast charging would have been nice to see, but heat from that and gaming could be a potential issue. The GameSir G8 Plus MFI removed the slight latency in faster paced games with the addition of USB C connection and delivers the precision and comfort of console-like feel for mobile gaming. It may not be the best choice for mobile gaming on the go, but it is definitely offers customizability and comfort for crashing on the couch at home to get some gametime in.

I’ve never owned a phone controller before. This is pretty neat. In the box, you get different silicone pads to hold your device. I think the one pre-installed on the controller fits my phone well. You get three different thumbsticks. A spare regular thumbstick, a round grooved thumbstick, and a small thumbstick. You also get a manual, a social media/contact us packet, and some stickers. The manual works on the app, but only if the controller is plugged in. Which I found funny. There is a lot of customization with the device. You can switch between an Xbox layout or a Switch layout in the software. You can also pop off the faceplate and change the buttons with ease. So you can switch the button positioning (x, y / b, a) to match which layout you prefer. I was worried about breaking something, but it is intuitive. There is also a plate where my camera bump is. You are able to remove it, and I feel that helped my phone fit better in the controller. You can adjust the rumble of the motors by holding the M button and pressing the arrow up/down. The controller itself has several features that you see on pro controllers. There are two buttons on the back that can be mapped to what you like. Hold the M button and the paddle of your choosing. Then their logo will blink. At this point, tap the button you want to also use as a paddle button. The controller also has Hall Effect sticks. It also has hair triggers. To set up those, you hold the M button and hold either L2 or R2. You cannot do both at the same time. For a while, I tried to enable both at the same time and could not get it to work… Anyways the hair trigger is a must for controllers. Essentially, your R2 or L2 press can be instant. This is great for shooters. You might want to have it off during a driving game or if you’re using a crossbow. There is a button next to the M that takes screenshots. On the bottom, there is a USB-C passthrough. It can charge your phone. It’s also for connecting to your computer. There is a headphone jack next to it. I fly a lot. I take my dual-sense edge on the plane in my backpack. It fills up a lot of space in there. Happy that I have this now. I was looking for something similar to PlayStation’s pro controller offering, but without a battery, so it can be checked on luggage. I will be using this now, of course, in place of that.

I'm very happy with this GameSir G8 Plus. All our phones and my son's iPad (mini) recognized it right away and the apps recognized that the controller was connected. Some even brought up the controller controls when the game started. It has an adjustable USB-C that you connect to your phone and then you slide the left side out to fit the phone or iPad. And it works perfectly for the games that I've used from Angry Birds to racing games. I usually don't have racing games on my phone because the touchscreen controls are just never as good as a controller. But with this, it's much better. I will warn that if you have a case that's thicker on the bottom, that it won't connect. I have a thinker case on my phone and I had to take my phone out to use it. But the ones with the thinner cases connected with no problem. The app is rated pretty lowly, but for me it's good. You can remap the buttons and update the firmware. I'm not sure what others have a problem with, but for me it worked well. If you can play near a charger, the pass through charging worked great. I would recommend this GameSir.

This Phone controller is pretty cool. I’ve never owned a device like this but using it this last week I’ve really come to appreciate this device. There are a few downsides that I will talk about first. 1- The controller might not fit every phone, in fact I have the latest iPhone and even with removing some panels and replacing the side grips (for the phone) it still doesn’t seem to fit like you would expect. The camera on my phone causes the phone to sit at an angle. This doesn’t have any negative effect on the function of the controller, but I would have expected better fitment especially with my phone model. 2- No Bluetooth connectivity which means unless you use with your phone, this controller is limited on functionality. I would have appreciated if I could Bluetooth this with my iPad and be able to utilize it with other devices. Now onto the good. The controller has a nice amount of adjustability and good spring tension. The usb c port is engineered in a way that allows it to twist/tilt/rotate so that you don’t damage the port on your phone or the usb connection when inserting your phone into the controller. This is a great thing to see as the spring tension on the controller can be very powerful making it a little hard to insert the phone carefully. Once connected the controller connects to your phone immediately and your ready to play your games. I use cloud gaming and also Fortnite and the controller makes my phone gameplay feel like I’m on a console. It’s quite enjoyable. All of the buttons just work and are all mapped perfectly. The joysticks are smooth and responsive. The triggers have a slight texture on the making them grippy for playing shooter games. The main face buttons all feel high quality. Another great thing about this device being powered by the device is you don’t ever have to worry about recharging it. Just connect to your device and you’re ready to go. All in all this is a great little controller. Asides from the 2 drawbacks listed in the beginning, I would highly recommended this controller to anyone who wants to use their phone as a gaming device while out and about.

The GameSir - G8 Plus Officially MFi Certified Phone Controller is high quality. The sticks feel good, not too loose and not too tight. Clicking them takes just the right amount of force. The buttons all have a satisfying clicky feel without being too loud. The D-pad is perfect. The triggers are good, though maybe a little too much give. The build quality is nice with the plastic feeling sturdy and could probably take a good number of short drops. The grip texture on handholds, triggers, and sticks has good feel and keeps hands and fingers in place. The pass through charger port is very helpful for long sessions that would otherwise kill phone battery as is the included headphone jack. The USB-C connector for the phone is well-designed to prevent bending and to connect to phones of varying thickness. The design of the phone pocket is very good for keeping phone in place but still easily adjustable without having to remove phone from connector. The general build quality is on par with official controllers at similar price point. Overall this is an excellent controller and games play well using it.

Received the GameSir-G8 Plus Phone Controller. Was excited to test out. Was able to quickly connect the controller. The controller has low latency inputter and has rumble feedback. This controller can be used while charging your phone at the same time. This helps because then you don't have interrupted gameplay. This is a bonus for me as sometimes I get so involved in what I am playing, that is would be a disappointment if my batter ran out of my phone in intense gaming moments. The controls can be mapped to work with games that do not offer native support. The controller has a comfortable handgrip. The controller appears to be durable and overall would recommend this product to others. If you travel a lot like me, this is nice to take with you while on a plane, car, bus, train. I tend to travel for work, so this works out very well. The handgrip feels pretty good and was able to control the buttons during play. PROS: Durable Doesn't require any assembly Flexibility to charge device at the same time Travel friendly Quick setup Don't have to carry around bulky items
