I own the s6 as well which was great but this new watch is worth the upgradet. Yes, I can link it with my phone but I rarely do because of the short (2-3 day) battery life. It lasts nearly 2 weeks as a normal watch/pedometer. The best updates from s6 are the larger and more detailed screen layout, the ability to read distance based on slope and the best part (for me) is the ability to score penalty strokes for each hole (aside from normal direction/putts/GIR) to see if you really sucked or sucked a little less with that hazard on a hole.

This is a very expensive watch that I bought because it is expected to have the best golf app, but I also expected it to have some other apps and better watch faces that would make the watch worth the price. The watch doesn't even display a simple calculator app. I hope golf season brings good results.

The best feature with this is that I don’t have to have a golf watch separate from my fitness watch or my regular watch. The courses are as descale well.

If you are looking for a Golf watch that will provide consistent and accurate data that will help improve your game, this watch is it. I have found that distances are reliable and consistent. Garmin has also done a great job at designing an interface that allows me to keep track of my score without having to tap or click thru many screens. As a comparison, I used the Golf Logix app on my Samsung Galax S9+ for previous score tracking and like the watch better. The sensor on the watch for detecting a shot is also highly accurate. I can go back after a round and see exactly how I played every hole up until some shorter minimal swing shots. I would say near 100% detection on any full swing hit (there is an ability to input what club you hit, I just don't use it much). Tracking other stats such as # of putts is also quite simple. Using the screen to pick a spot for a distance is as good as it could get for big fingers on a watch face, no real complaint here. The golf capability is where the good ends. As a watch for notifications or widgets it has failed to deliver so far. My first issue was the watch not being able to give me the weather or sunrise sunset data for my location and no way to tell it "I want the data for this location". It wasn't until I played my first round of golf (2 months later) and the GPS activated that it picked up both of those items. If possible, I could not find another way to do it. Thought I was good, but now anytime I am away from my phone, it seems the weather defaults to a location that is nowhere near where I am and forcing a location does not seem possible. The other issue I experienced was with notifications. On 3 separate occasions, notifications would stop being sent to the watch. I spent hours googling answers and found that all of my settings were as they should be. Nor did I do anything remotely close to change some of those settings. The only fix was to "Restore defaults" and start over, download the faces again, and any other apps I had. The next issue I have had is that my watch face would uninstall itself and I would need to download it again and reset it to how I wanted. Frustrating and a nuisance. The last issue is the interface between phone and watch and that you need 2 Apps, 1 for managing/setting the watch and another for downloading widgets, apps, or faces. Not terrible, but the interfacing between watch and phone is sluggish. I would go to download a face and it would just say "queued" in some cases with no way to force start. Then when it would download, I couldn't find the face, I would have to close and open the app a few times for it to appear. I do not have anything to compare to for battery life, but here is my data: The watch lasts a week unless you use the GPS. An 18 hole round using the Golf App takes around 40-50% battery. I would say this is expected as GPS is running the entire time. When I charge it, I will put it on to charge at breakfast and come back to it after lunch. Haven't paid enough attention to give any more data on charging. I have had the watch about 6 months and think the best part about this watch is the golf app, but everything else is just frustrating.
