We were on vacation and decided to quit using the phone for navigation. We went to the local Best Buy and picked this up. Within 30 seconds of plugging it up in the car it was ready to go. Very easy to operate and was so much more convenient while driving. Wish we had picked one up long ago. Its amazing all the info it displays.

I like having a dedicated GPS device for directions rather than using an app on my phone. Garmin Nuvi is easy to use. It has alerts for school zones. It's also easy to update two or three times a year to get new map data. There are numerous ways to personalize the device including the vehicle displayed and the voice used.

I purchased the Garmin drive 51 lm for a trip to the Smoky Mountains. Everyone told me that a GPS would not work and I would get lost, well, they couldn't have been more wrong. The gps even had the names of the dirt roads in Cades Cove.

I've had numerous GPS devices over the past 12 years and prefer Garmin over all other brands. The Drive 51LM is easy to use and makes driving in a new area less stressful. The free lifetime map updates keeps this device current and up to date. I would recommend this device for anyone who needs a good entry level GPS.

I LOVE THIS !!!! I just purchased this, late April, early May 2019, to go to VA BEACH. I, normally, use AAA TripTix and READ directions, as I go. I am SO old school. BEST THING, I HAVE PURCHASED IN YEARS ! I am still learning, all of the features, thru youtube vids. LOVE MY GARMIN GPS !!!!! p.s. For those that wonder why, I never switched earlier - 12 years ago, my friend lent me her GPS and it took me, to the WOODS ! LOL I vowed to never trust technology again - SO GLAD, I OPENED MY MIND ! EXCELLENT !

I was skeptical about this unit after reading the other reviews so I had low expectations. However I was very pleasantly surprised by the features. It was easy to use, light weight and packed full of useful information. I have had a Tom Tom and a Garman in the past and this unit was better than both of them. Everything you would need is in the unit and the split screen feature is very helpful. It also gives you the ability to see what towns are in your path and you can click on them and it will show hotels, restaurants and gas stations along with Trip Adviser ratings. Very helpful. Again a great unit for the money.

I have other Garmins in the family and they have all been great. This one is better, with more features on the screen. It took a few minutes to get use to the differences, but once you do, it becomes pretty automatic to use it. I may replace one of my other units with another upgraded GPS.

I bought a Garmin NUVI GPS unit years ago as we tend to take a lot of driving vacations and paper maps were hard to read while driving. We used to call it the "Nagigator" (after a skit on a comedy show) because it would seem to get mad at us if we disagreed with its choice of routes, but the unit was pretty dependable and helpful. My old Garmin finally died out and, while I do like my cell phone's navigational guides, I noticed that sometimes, out in the boonies (like Wyoming) we were having issues with online maps when we were outside cell zones. Yes, I know, I should have just downloaded the maps, etc., but I like to have a GPS that I works no matter where I am. The Garmin Drive 51 was on sale at Best Buy when I bought it (along with some Reward Point certificates). It loaded up quickly and has worked quite well on a recent trip. The larger screen than my old NUVI is nice to read and makes navigation easy. My only issue lately has been getting it hooked up to the Garmin Express software in order to update the maps. I'm still working on it for a resolution.

I like the ease of the directions while driving. It’s nice to hear turn at the next “corner” instead of stating a street name. By providing easy directions allows for the driver to focus more on driving and less on trying to read street signs.

I was using the Garmin Nuvi for the past five years. We thought to buy a new GPS for our road trip and this was our choice. This Garmin - Drive 51 was very useful for us to navigate & made our road trip stress free.

Just bought this unit as a Black Friday special. It's "fine" but it's not ideal. Pros: Bigger screen than my last unit, lifetime updates are a big plus, and seems to maintain connection to the satellites better than previous Garmin. Cons: Unlike my previous Garmin, when you enter an address for a destination, the device automatically searches for a match across multiple states. I don't usually need to find an address in a state other than the one I am in. Also the device is slow to power on when I start the truck (compared to my previous Garmin). You can change the icon on the map screen, but you can't change the voice.

I gave this product five stars because it was “out of the box” ready! No charging or computer set up needed before I could use it the first time. The battery was already charged; I just turned it on and it was ready to go! It has a color touch screen display and the menus are easy to navigate. My favorite feature is that it will tell you the speed limit of the road you are on, while at the same time, indicating via icon, Your current driving speed and if you are driving over the speed limit.

I purchased this instead of using my phone when I was driving back from Chicago, which would have used data. It worked out great, giving me plenty of time to navigate that busy traffic. I have purchased several Garmin gps for my family over the years because I know I can depend on them for their accuracy, and this was no exception. Nice screen size and I like the new features they have added, like the speed zone, curves ahead, and various other warnings. Not to mention the lifetime maps. I would highly recommend it.

The fact that it comes with lifetime updates pushed me into this. I have an older Garmin that didn`t include updates and each was around $60.00 so this is a deal. Small yet big enough to be visible and as always Garmin is a great brand.

I use to own a tom tom and that never gave me free map updates. always had to pay 60 to update. this garmin is totally free map updates and it finds gps location extremely fast. its just really good and way better than tomtom.

I made this purchase for a friend who was leaving out of state. It's easy to set up and use. I love the multiple features it has like the selection for directions and duration of time. You can't beat the price either!

I have had several GPS units over the years. This one has slightly fewer features than previous ones, but it is exactly what I wanted. Easy to learn how to operate, intuitive controls. Good unit for the price.

It is a great thing to have in the car. Battery life which it was longer. Love when the gps tells me about signs coming up and different sounds it gives. I love this gps more than my cell phone gps app.

You can not go wrong with this GPS by Garmin because the screen is excellent size, easy to follow directions day or night, great volume / voice and the built in abilities / features are designed for easy access/ usage. I have my attach to my center of front windshield screen turn slightly towards driver side with the passenger seat person can still see too. This is worth the money and I love it seriously.

Garmin products are the best!!!! The display is phenomenal and is super, duper easy to use. Plus the unlimited maps means that I'm always aware of route changes and construction.
