Customers are saying

Customers recognize the exceptional battery life and reliable GPS functionality of the fēnix® 3 HR Smartwatch. Many appreciate its accurate heart rate tracking and durable build, although some find the screen brightness and size to be drawbacks. Positive feedback also highlights its extensive features and water resistance. However, the price point is a common concern for some customers.

This is the Swiss army knife of sport watches. But not the small Swiss army knife--it's the big one that has every single tool under the sun, many of which you will never use. This watch tracks: running, swimming (both pool and outdoor, which most sport watches don't), cycling, hiking, and tons of other activities (upright paddling, rowing, steps, flights of stairs, etc.). This model has the built in HR monitor. I use it primarily for running, cycling and swimming. Like all Garmin products I've used, I find it very accurate. Also usually quick to get the GPS signal. The smartwatch functions are useful, not overbearing. Buzzes for notifications, which you can set. The UI is pretty intuitive and solid. You can download third party apps, for a variety of purposes (weight lifting, etc.). Also can download different watch faces. The HR monitor works well, but not great. I knew going in it wouldn't replace a chest strap, but I actually thought it would work a little better than it does. Seems to be most inaccurate during cycling and some HIIT workouts (showing 80 bpm when it's closer to 130 in reality). Averaged out, though, it still works well. Just don't buy it if you value accurate HR data most. It's a really big watch. People comment on how big it is. The plus side of that is that the battery lasts up to a week, and the includes daily active use, including frequent (3-5 day) GPS use, which drains the batter faster. It's a very tough watch--I have banged it against all sorts of things, and it has suffered only a scratch on the bezel. Frankly, one of the downsides of this watch is the fact that it can do so many different things, it's hard to get your head around all of the options. I have used it for a lot of activities and employed unique settings, but I am scratching the surface only. It's a downside because there is still too much one has to do within the watch itself, rather than via the Garmin Express application. That seems to be improving, though. Speaking of the applications, it syncs reliably with the app on the phone, and you can go in and check your status. The connection is rock solid. You can get online and view all your historical data, as well. This is really an outstanding watch. I paid $600, and feel it was worth every penny. A new, slimmer model, is coming out shortly, so this one should see discounts soon. I would make the decision whether to buy this one or old one based on size--as I mentioned, this is a large watch. Women, I would suggest the new one. Battery life should be comparable. In short: this watch works as well as or better than advertised, and that is high praise. Downsides are size, cost, and (relative) complexity of all you can do, and occasionally wonky HR monitoring. Don't buy this watch to serve as a step counter/fitness tracker. It's overkill. If you exercise regularly, run, bike, swim, hike, this is your watch.

I bought this watch for a hiking companion and it is NOT worth it. No mapping only breadcrumbs. Very poor display.. sad thing is the Apple Watch walks circles around this thing and almost half the price.

This watch would be great if it wasn't such a dark display which makes it almost impossible to view in daylight. Installing a custom background for the watch, makes it even more difficult to view.

This watch is nice and works well. I wish it had more features available but not many like this do yet. It's pricey too. Let me add.. If u have a Samsung phone, I highly recommend going with the Samsung watch. It is the best out there.

Sadly I have to encourage you to tread carefully when purchasing this - potentially incredible - watch. My primary purposes for buying it were; hiking/climbing and golf. WHO would have thought someone could combine those TWO!?! Well, I have confidence they will (eventually). As for altitude - after a day or so familiarizing myself with ALL this puppy can do, it dawned on me it wasn't tracking the flights of stairs accurately (not even CLOSE!). So I recalibrated the base elevation and the same thing persisted. It wasn't until a week or two of wearing it that I realized the altimeter had crept (SPED) to over 65,000 FEET!!! Yep 25,000 feet above where transcontinental aircraft fly! brrrr. Strike one As for golf - 1st time I took it on the course it couldn't find a satellite - no problem - chaulked it up to operator error. Second time - same thing - so I took it into the pro shop (where I purchased my wife & my Garmin golf watches) they played around with it, went on line and tried Customer Service ~ only to declare "Garmin is notorious for inaccuracy on their watches except the ones specifically made for golf." I don't know about that - just know that in one more try (plus the other issues) I finally gave up and returned the watch. Will keep my eyes open for the next generation though - because so far, this is the closest I've found to the ideal activity watch. Hope this was helpful.
