I used to have an ambit 3 sports watch and fenix 5 is a great upgrade! I bought it for the built in heartbeat monitor so that I don't have to wear the chest strap to get heart rate. Battery also on fenix 5 lasts more than a week.

If you want to do little more than counting steps, this is it. Everything from my bike rides , hart rate to slipping patterns, I love it and battery last about two weeks (depending on GPS usage).

Had a Fitbit for years. Was frustrated that it wasn't waterproof. Love this watch because it's a nice timepiece, is waterproof, and has gps for my hiking days. Pricey...but has everything.

This watch is absolutely amazing. It is super sleek and stylish. The functionality is also amazing. I found the runner tracking to be extremely accurate. It does a really good job at measuring heart rate, and averaging it out for your daily caloric burn. It paired very nicely with Samsung S7 smart phone. It pushes text notifications to the watch when my phone is in me gym bag 30-40 feet away from me. Garmin by far makes the finest fitness watches in the industry. I own multiple fitness watches, and none of them compare to this Garmin.

have had this for about a week and a half and am loving it so far! Had a fitbit previous to this and the Fenix 5 track so much more that the fitbit can. I would have to choose between this and my Suunto when I went hunting and now I don't, it tracks my activities, displays elevation, altimeter, etc out in the field. The battery life is great as I don't really use the GPS much. When I huunt I have the OnX app on my phone and a handheld garmin GPS so I didn't want to pay extra for the 5X model. You won't regret getting this!

If your a lazy tech nerd that lives a sedimentary life style, this watch is not for you. But if you truly enjoy hiking, biking, camping, outdoor running, and not having to charge a smart watch every night, then you should go ahead and sacrifice a little and go out and purchase this watch. And if you’re the first tour of person mentioned in this review, go outside and try to enjoy life!

Read many reviews before pulling the trigger for this one for the husband's birthday. If you're contemplating a GPS watch-- THIS IS IT!! It's so easy to use, so accurate and so informative! The husband is runner- nothing overly serious- but he wanted a way to accurately track his training and he's been enamored since day one! The phone app is super intuitive as well. Only downside is the hefty price tag but it is what it is! Well worth every penny!

I exchanged the Fenix 5X with this model. The 5X scratches really easy because of the black finish and looked bad after a few weeks. This model is stainless steel and has the same features. For me, the same is smaller than the 5X. I wanted a large watch.

I bought the Fenix 5 not the sapphire edition. The watch looks amazing with a nice rugged design. GPS is great and the water proof design works well. The software/operating system is confusing and will take sometime to get used to After 1 week of usage I started seeing scratches on the watch front surface which were a disappointment considering how pricey it is I also started to notice some inaccuracies with the sensors like altitude and steps After 3-4 weeks of usage I stopped receiving any notifications from my iPhone. I talked with Garmin support and they helped me master reset the watch to no use. Anyways I returned my watch to Best Buy today and they made me happy by returning my money Garmin needs to do a better job on a 400-500$ price watch

Upgraded from the vivoactive HR! Love the touch even without the touch screen . The widgets included are different and are more advanced than Vivoactive.

I enjoy variety in my workouts and this watch pretty much tracks any workout I can come up with. The GPS tracks my runs better than my phone does. The battery life is impressive so far, averaging about 2.5 weeks before having to recharge it. I also love the look and toughness of the watch. Overall, i couldn't be happier with my Garmin watch.

Going from the Garmin Forerunner 620 to the Fenix 5 is a great experience with a wealth of features and data. I love how you can separate walks and hikes from runs- the forerunner would count them as runs. My primary use for the Fenix 5 is running, I was a little disappointed that you had to buy an external heart rate monitor to get the extra running functions to work, I thought that would be the benefit of the extra $ for having the heart rate built in. So far i have used it for running, cycling, hiking and mountain biking. I look forward to trying it out in open water. The apps and options seem endless.

I gave the Felix 5 a four star rating because I needed a smart watch with more features like the Apple Watch , the Fenix 5 is not a bad watch, it just lacks the smart features that I need , I ended up getting a Samsung 46 mm smart watch , it works well with my iPhone 8 and the Samsung 46 mm model just happens to be water proof, dust proof, and shock proof, features that are a must for the type of work that I do .

It’s no Apple for better or for worse. It’s great for tracking workouts and it’s the best looking watch on the market. And the batter lasts for a week! There’s no touchscreen but I like that because I was always inadvertently activating my Apple Watch. I only recommend this for people who want a good workout tracker watch.

The Garmin Fenix 5 is a great fitness tracker / watch. It looks stylish and the ability to down different watch faces is nice. The battery life can last well over a week even when using the GPS to track runs. The training status is another great feature to let you know how you are progressing or maintaining your fitness.
