Great basic gps. Serves my purpose great. Would love to have an easier way to find alternate routes though. I didn't realize i didn't have the traffic feature turned on (didn't ever see anything in the setup to realize it didn't automatically come on, would be another bonus), so when i was stuck in 2 hours of traffic trying to find an alternate route out of the madness it would have been great to push a button to tell me where to go. But if you are looking for an above basic gps this one is pretty good.

Great GPS. Portable and easy to use. I haven't mastered the traffic options but what I've used so far......is ok. It says the traffic is in real time but I'm not sure that's always true. It did get us out of hours of traffic on our drive back from Florida. My brother-in-law who was an hour ahead of us and got caught it terrible traffic due to an accident. We saw the traffic info on the GPS as we came close to an exit and got off. I don't use the traffic feature a ton but the GPS itself if great.

Finding my way around

This was purchased for business use and I have found that it works great most of the time. There have been times that it has taken me out of the way. In hitting another route, ex - shortest route ect., it would still show the same route even though I would know of a better one. All in all I am pleased with it. I would rather get to my destination than get lost.

Purchased this unit at a great price on BestBuy.com and have already put it to use many times. The operator speech is clear and very helpful that it says the street name so that you do not have to look at the screen on every turn. No it does not have bluetooth like some other GPS units, but I don't see why I would need it!
This GPS takes me to point A to point B, will find restaurants and locations as if I were on mapquest, and is extremely easy to use. No need to spend $200+ on other GPS units.

I have never had a GPS but had gotten this one for Christmas. I had my first chance to use it to take my nephew to downtown Atlanta the weekend after I received this gift. I will never travel without it again! It is the easiest computerized equipment I have ever had to use. It even rerouted me after missing my turnoff because NO ONE will let you over in Atlanta. My husband works for the local cable company and has even started using this GPS to locate homes especially when working in Asheville.

The BEST GPS for the Money!!!

I needed a GPS because it is very difficult finding streets in the Tampa Bay area. Streets don't continue when they are supposed to, for example. I bought this GPS, set it up in my car. It took about 3 minutes to find the satelites and it locates about 99.9% of the locations. The only complain is that any brand new roads or building are not up to date. For example, 2 schools in my neighborhood are showing west of me instead of east.
Other than that, this is the best GPS for the money.

For experience I used it to "guide" me to some known locations. Most of the time it was very accurate & took me exactly where it should. In some rural areas it was off by 3/4 mile or more, either stopping me short or taking me well past my destination, depending upon from which direction I approached. I would prefer more volume on the voice prompts.

I travel often for business. I have used Tom Tom's, Magellan's, and Garmin's. Garmin is the superior product by far.
I purchased this unit as a gift for my mother. She is navigationally challenged, so I took the liberty to program in a few favorites for her.
After playing around, I noticed a few things that bested my older nuvi 205w unit:
-QWERTY keyboard layout was wonderful (the older 205w is alphabetical).
-It zipped along much faster and was able to find satellites within a minute or so.
-Traffic avoidance would be great for me... so it will be imperative for her!
-Simple hardware design much like the other 2 nuvi units in my home (older 205w & 255w models). But why fix it "if it ain't broke!"
Overall- very satisfied with the entire nuvi line. This hit the price point and offered enough features to stay relevant for the coming years.
Would recommend to new to GPS users... or those just looking to upgrade an older model.

Purchased this to upgrade from a much older GPS system that I used on my PDA. This Garmin Nuvi is a big upgrade for me. The map movement is smooth and clear. Voice directions are clear and understandable. The voice is a little on the quite side so you may not hear it if the radio is turned up or the windows are down while flying down the highway but should be fine for most people. System is simple and easy to understand and use. Touch screen is responsive and menus are intuitive.

Garmin seems to have gotten it right! This makes our second unit. Their units are dependable and very easy to use. The voice is generally very clear and intelligable. Little use so far but I can't find anything wrong with it yet. As a special note...the first unit we purchased saved my husband's life as he suffered a heart attack while driving in Kentucky. He used the unit and it pointed him directly to an ER and he was there within 10 minutes! These things are life-savers!

Garmin 255WT was a literal lifesaver!

The first time I used my Garmin 255WT was last week when I made a 250-mile trip to St. Louis. Being something of a skeptic, I printed maps & instructions as a back-up. I arrived in the St. Louis area after dark, coming in on I-70. My Garmin directions indicated I had 4.7 miles to go to my exit, but suddenly there was onslaught of emergency vehicles, and 4 lanes of traffic slowed to a crawl. I was in far L lane when Garmin advised me that new traffic info came in, my route had been recalculated, and that I needed to exit on the R in 0.3 miles. Thanks to kind drivers, I was able to work my way to far R lane in time to exit (over the course of 15 minutes)--it was then I learned that a major accident had occurred up the road, and our 4 lanes of traffic were being funneled off the freeway at my new exit. Of interest was the map on my Garmin screen when I exited I-70, which showed a 'road-closed' sign over the stretch of freeway I was originally instructed to take. Garmin guided me safely through several miles of back streets, back on to the freeway beyond the closure, and even directed me into 'express lanes'! Garmin 255 WT not only saved me an incalculable amount of time that I would have needed to navigate a part of the city for which I wasn't familiar nor had any maps, but because the instructions were so incredibly clear and easy to read, I was able to concentrate exclusively on my driving. An added benefit to me was the calm & clear GPS voice, which had a very positive impact and lessened my anxiety level that I KNOW I would have had without my Garmin GPS! I absolutely believe that putting my navigation in the 'hands' of Garmin also saved me from possibly (probably?) causing or being involved in an accident due to my infamiliarity with the city, especially at night. My Garmin GPS paid for itself my first time using it!!!

I like the GPS. The mount is better then other GPS mounts i've used (no vibration, sticks really well to the windshield). I don't really care for the keyboard, it's as though the keys are not aligned to the position they appear on the screen.
The added feature of traffic is great, even though I live close to DC I haven't used that feature.

My older Germin just died on me right before my trip to FL. So went to Best Buy and picked up this new Garmin. It worked great on our trip to FL and in and around the Orlando Metro Area. But on the way back, as we are passing the airport the Unit got completely confused. Right when we are passing the Atlanta Down Town Area. The reception was lost and since than till we stopped for the night the recpetion will come for 10 mins than loose again for 10 mins. In the mountain, it was keep confusing the HWY with the surrounding roads and constanly giving wrong directions. The next morning after we changed the destination address, it worked fine for the rest of the way. It appreas as the Airplane flying low some how confused the GPS completely and it did not get it's momentum back till we changed the destination again. I will go to best buy and have it exchanged for another one and try it. Hopefully the replacement will work out better.
Traffic Delays is not very accurate either. It showed delayed at some spots where there was no delay and it didn't show any delay where there was dealy.
For $180 it is not a bad unit, but I do not suggest any one to buy it for traffic feature only.

I have been using the product now for about 1 month. I haven't had to use it too often in places where I haven't been, it has mostly been used for testing and to see if it comes up with better directions than I was familiar with.
It speaks every road that you are supposed to turn onto. It gives enough notification ahead of time when you have to make a turn.
The traffic feature seems like it would come in very handy but often nothing shows up on the screen, I may just not be in a traffic provided area or there just may not be any traffic at that time, not too sure.
The one thing I am not thrilled about is that it can take a long time for it to acquire a satellite after turning the device on. If you have to start driving while it's acquiring a satellite it may not come in very handy if you're going to be in an area that you're unfamiliar with. If you have the time to spare you might be better off waiting until the satellite is picked up before starting to drive.
Overall I am very satisfied with this product and I did a ton of research, and from what I have read this seems to be just about the best NAV system out there that doesn't need the Lane Assist feature or bluetooth.

I had a garmin street pilot 330. I loved it. I always thought a few things could be changed. I only got it for the traffic updates, little did i know this would be the best money spent in a long time. I always thought it would be nice if i didnt have to type the whole city every time. This one stores your history. It says the street names, which is nice, bigger display, never loses signal and on and on. This thing is the best, deff buy one. Worth every penny.

Cheap, easy to use and adequately functional.
Routing is reasonably accurate. Though it does not always choose the shortest or fastest route, it rarely goes far astray. It has directed me to drive over a pedestrian bridge :). But it probably is about a good as any routing software is apt to be.
I have some complaints though. Despite checking for all the possible s/w issues given on the website, I was never able to download a map update on my VISTA machine. (As a systems engineer who has built Windows applications, I am not computer ignorant.) There really is no excuse for the complicated and fragile update application, since a simple file transfer process would do the job in a much more bulletproof fashion. Garmin will send an update on CD (or DVD?) for a shipping and handling fee, but I haven't bothered. I also miss the much more extensive display options that are available on my Etrex handheld GPS. Finally, having a replacable battery would also be a plus. When the battery goes, it's toaste. I suppose this is a common weakness of other vehicle GPSs, but I don't know that.
On the whole I would buy it again.

Great GPS for money. Comes with traffic updates. I usually don't drive to the parents house for the holidays during heavy commute hrs on 680N from SJ but the GPS told me it was clear and it was clear. Had to go to oakland a few days ago and it told me it was traffic on 880 and it was. It comes with a car charger only no AC adapter. No big deal i use my computer to charge the GPS and i use my motorolla phone charger to charge it through the AC outlet.
