Great GPS, great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does exactly what I want - get me to addresses or locations. I like the trip meter and display. Having had 4 Garmins for our boat, I was used to making and keeping many routes, that cannot be done here. But I found out how to add "Via" waypoints so it is like a route, but only one route. But for the price, it is terrific.

Great GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Garmin 255WT is the nicest GPS I have owned. I started off with a Garmin C320 years ago and that was a good unit. Have also used handheld Garmin's like the eTrex Legend and eTrex Vista Cx. Since then I have had a Mio and a Sanyo branded automotive GPS units. These lesser known brands were decent but lacked the refinements that Garmin unit's have. The voice is clear and easy to understand. The spoken street names were very good though in my area there aren't any too difficult to pronounce street names. Not had a chance to see the how the Traffic works, though the green icon was there when I was driving so the FM data channel must have been present. There is a map update available. You'll need your own USB cable to update it as one is not included in the box. After playing with it as it was right out of the box I took it inside, registered it with Garmin and found that "City Navigator North America NT 2010 Map Update" is available for download. Can't beat a free update to the maps! There are also some other updates the webupdater software found. Overall I think this is a solid device. I've never had any issues with Garmin devices.

Garmin satisfies, TomTom does not
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Garmin 255wt and TomTom XL 330s. Went on a road trip with both setup side-by-side. Entered address of destination and Garmin found it without any issues, TomTom could not find address. Both devices responded about the same while traveling. Needless to say, I returned the TomTom and am now a solid Garmin fan.

where was the cord?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You need to update maps and register product upon receiving this gps product. A cord is required to hook it up to your computer to do so, which is NOT INCLUDED! Not at all happy about that. Garmin is best brand for ease of use.

Great GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I compared many different gps's and found this one to be the best for the price. It has all the features i need plus others. It's super easy to use and the traffic reports help occasionally. The only problem i've found is that it can take a while to find a POI when you search by name. Other than that it is a very nice gps.

Never get lost again!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GPS paid for itself the first time I used it on a long trip. I went to visit my daughter in St. Paul, MN. I hate driving in big cities, but with the Garmin it was a breeze. I love that it re-calculates the directions if you miss a turn. It made for a relaxing and fun trip. Thank you, Garmin and thank you Best Buy!!

absolutely love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall i absolutely love this gps. i take it with me on every road trip i make and i always use it. a lot of friends have different gps systems and do not like them at all but this one to me is amazing. it has traffic alerts so i can tell if there is a hold up somewhere and you can program it to avoid traffic as well.

Garmin 255WT has the right stuff
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this 2 weeks ago when it went on sale. I really liked the lifetime traffic update. That was the selling point for me. I took it out to my usual places that I visit (friends and family) and I was impressed with it. Personally I wouldn't of used the routes it suggested because I didn't want to drive through the city and deal with lights and traffic but if I didn't know my way around it would of worked. It's not fully loaded like the others but I just wanted it for trips and I liked the traffic report. One last thing, if you can spend the extra money on the Garmin Portable Friction Mount then get that with your GPS. Works good and you don't have that suction cup mark on your windshield. Money well spent

Unit operation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ended up exchanging Garmin 255WT unit for another same unit under the protection plan we purchased. Glad we bought protection plan this time. Unit work okay except that on 2 long distance trips down major highways, it wanted to inexplicably take us off the major highway multiple times during the trip. Couldn't figure out reason why. Wasn't for traffic or construction. Then unit wouldn't accept free download of latest maps. Maybe the unit was defective--we have a new unit with the latest maps already installed, so hopefully it'll work better. Otherwise, nice unit vocie and screen wise. I expect we'll be satisfied with the unit.

Absolutely Recommend this GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got exactly what I wanted, and some extra features too. It is easy to use and fun too. It has a "Less Fuel" option and a vehicle profile to calculate fuel efficiency and cost. I use it everyday and it only took me a few minutes to figure it out.

Awesome GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We gave this to our daughter moving to a large city. She says it has been a lifesaver for her. When there is a roadblock it redirects and gets you where you need to go. We will be purchasing another Garmin for our son as well as one for ourselves in the near future. Thanks for such a great and easy to use product!

Great GPS for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to set up and start using. Much more user friendly than the Garmin aviation GPS with automobile mode. We've gotten into some heavy traffic back ups and didn't get any traffic alerts. However, sometimes in normal city traffic it announces "Traffic Ahead." Not sure this feature is really working at all.

Great product for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this unit has performed as advertised. Have not used it on any long trips yet, but everywhere we have used it it got us there with ease. It could aquire the satalites a little faster, and does seem to have issues with being surrounded by tall buildings, but for the price you can't complain to much.

Awesome 1st GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have resisted getting a GPS for years thinking I could live without it. After going on a business trip and getting utterly lost I changed my tune. I did alot of research and decided to go with this. So far I have been nothing but pleased. The display is clear, the spoken directions are loud and clear (and my hearing isn't great), and the response time has been excellent - if you miss a turn it recalculates in a second or two. A potential knock is if you are looking for bluetooth this doesn't have it but it comes with lifetime updates so that was an added bonus. I would definitley recommend this.

Traffic - not so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used it last week on round trip NH to Washington DC. Traffic alerts not accurate - walked us into a 3 hour delay across GW bridge and showed "Green - no delays" the whole time. Most of our delays were unannounced and others that were flagged weren't there when we got there. Ads not a problem. Glad I didn't pay for it. Beware if pulling trailer - not towing friendly - have to put in waystops to force it to avoid tunnels, parkways, and 'shortcuts' off highway or you can just ignore and mute it. I wish it had info about rest/gas stops on a turnpike. It locates only the closest ones at exits. Speaker not very loud - cannot hear over radio very well. I think it will be a lot more useful on car trips and off highways where we can be more flexible.

So Far so Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my husband for Christmas and he has enjoyed using it and testing it's capabilities. So far it's has been flawless in it's directions and very easy to program. LOVE the traffic feature, even when you haven't set a location to go to, if it's on and there's traffic ahead, it let's you know.

Great GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm used to the terrible Hertz rental GPS so I often miss turns as it doesn't provide a "beep" for the turn. It simply tells you to turn, which is really not a big issue unless you're used to another device. Otherwise great product. Very happy with it. My parents saw it and wanted to get one as well.

Best overall GPS in this price tier!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this GPS for about six months and can find very few, if any, faults. Battery life is great. GPC satellite acquisition is quick. After downloading the most current map for free from Garmin, I found that most places that I wanted to go were included in the GPS. It does exactly as described!

Great GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it seems to have been a great gift for my gf. She no longer gets lost and feels secure being in new areas. With the wide screen and voice navigation she can easily get around without getting lost and having to call me anymore :) No complains so far; she has had it about a month now.
