    not meeting expectation

I loved GARMIN GPS and I had been a loyal customer until I bought this. I don't want to be too critical about this. All I can say is it freezes up so often that I stopped using it after 2 weeks. Possible a QC issue, but it is just annoying that you need to reboot it a few times in 30 minute driving... this is my last GARMIN purchase.

    Disappointed by the performance

I needed a new GPS and was attracted by Garmin's reputation. The GPS constantly loses both satellite and traffic reception. I made a trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. While in the San Diego area, I couldn't see the Los Angeles area traffic; which was the whole point of spending the extra cash on the traffic feature. When you stop, the GPS will often get confused and think you have made a U-turn; so it tries to re-route you.

I like that the Gramin speaks the street names, but sometimes will take me out of the way rather than the easiest routes.

    Very Dissapointed

Went to best buy to purchase new gps, had a small navigon which worked pretty flawlessly for a couple years until it just died. Bought a garmin, by reputation, and chose this model because of the free live traffic option as i drive to DC everyday for work. First of all, the display didn't have option of miles to destination as my navigon did. That was just the beginning, several days in a row the satellite would just loose signal, for ten miles at a time on route 50 which is a major highway. Then yesterday, all the way home it had me on roads i was no where near, it had me like a half mile to the left or right of where i was, it was on my everyday to work so no danger of getting lost, but kept it running for traffic feature. I had to keep turning off and on to correct but withing couple minutes i was way off track again. I'm just glad i wasn't using it for somewhere where i didn't know where i was going. I just wanted to buy something that works properly, and i didn't. This unit will be returned in next couple days and won't buy garmin again,

    JUNK!

I have bought at least 6-8 Garmin Nuvi's for myself and members of my family and I loved them....until the last 2 that I bought....pure junk! I bought a 1350 lifetime traffic, map updates, etc when my previous one finally died...the new one is easily confused and when it does work...it is about 400 yards off the mark when it does get you somewhere...I was not happy with that one so I ordered this older model for one of my sons...had always had good luck with older ones....it just cuts off on a regular basis and when it does work...about half the time it takes him in circles...They use to be great products but have gone to junk....stay away from the Garmins!!!

Took it back after one day

The first day I tried it I decided to go to places I already knew the directions...the first was Mitchells Restaurant. As I headed West on Union Centre Blvd...the Restaurant was on my LEFT...the Garmin said.."Turn RIGHT on Allen...absolutly the wrong way to go. Then the same day I programmed it to take me to Bethesda North Hospital. As I am heading South on Montgomery Road...the hospital is to my left...the Garmin is screaming at me to turn RIGHT on Pfeiffer Road...I have no idea where it was going to take me...but it wouldn't be BN Hospital. Well....if everytime I might turn this thing on I was going to doubt its reliability...it was a complete waist to me. I took it back the next day and got my money back...now back to the tried and true way...maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth.

    Basic Garmin GPS Unit 255WT

I have owned other Garmin GPS units before but for some reason, I could not get this particular model to operate correctly. It would not charge even after being plugged into the house outlet overnight and continued to turn off without reason. I returned this unit to the store for a refund and have not purchased a replacement yet...

    Locked up

Had this product a few months, and now it's locked up on the garmin screen. Would be nice if it had some kind of reset button like most similar electronic devices have for that purpose. Beyond that, have had several problems while on long drives, changing routes, if an exit is closed, it keeps requesting you turn around the next 10 exits and go back and take that exit instead of finding a new route.

    Return to store

Got this GPS when it was on sale for $80. It was a steal at that price and the features are nice, however, this thing is pretty much unusable. It freezes up a lot especially when recalculating. I used it for 3 days since purchase and the problem is consistent. I deliberately make wrong turns for it to recalculate and every time it does it freezes up. I always use it full charge and I updated the map and firmware. I returned the 1st one but same problem on the 2nd, then I made some research and apparently it's a known problem on this model. It would've been a good GPS with it's feature, and the display is nice and bright but the problem made it unusable. I decided to get the Tomtom XL 350 from Walmart instead.

    Don't even bother

I got this yesterday. Today I wanted to test it out after setting it up (which was relatively easy) so I set it up to take me to my husbands work. Got in the van & it couldn't even calculate where I needed to go. So I went anyway thought maybe It would catch up...couldn't pass 52% kept restarting it and it still wouldn't work. Then it couldn't get me home. Thought I would test out the searching thing. Tried to find Best buy...I already knew where it was but still wanted to see if it was on my updated map that I just did lastnight...NOPE Best buy has been there for 3 years and it's not on the so called updated map...back to the store it went. Going to get a TomTom on sale tomorrow....Very disappointed :-(

I was excited to be purchasing this because of all the great features and everything included ; the QWERTY ; waypoints, W&T, reroute, transmitter. etc . i really thought Garmin was the way to go. it ended up freezing up, i exchanged it twice at the same store ; then decided it may be a defective batch. i exchanged it an hour away while visiting friends and family. it thought i was in lake michigan while driving on a major insterstate in Texas! it froze up, it was just a headache. i then exhanged it at another store. the thing never acted right. it was all crazy. the cool features not worth the headache or money. i would recommend better product for your money Magellan SE4

Customer service makes cable companies look good

The basic unit seems ok, but I paid for the traffic feature and after the first week of using it, it disappeared. I've talked to their awful customer support multiple times with each call taking about 20-30 minutes. The last time, it took me 30 minutes to get through, only to have to wait another 20 minutes to get technical support. They wouldn't give me a new traffic receiver before downloading the latest map, but after the 6 hour download process (using DSL), still no traffic. Probably a decent product if you get one that works (others online have had similar problem), but the customer service is among the worst I've ever had to deal with.

This is an awful GPS, I returned mine. I found the routing to be very sub par and the lack of adequate re-routing features to be terrible. There is only one option for route type, but it does have a 'detour' button. Unfortunately the detour seems to just pick some random turn not far ahead and then gets you back on the same course. There's no way to say how long a detour, what to avoid, etc. So if you want a GPS that just picks a route (probably a bad one) from A - B without much ability to change it maybe this is for you.

I purchased 2 of these units. First one failed after 3 weeks of ownership. Second one failed in two weeks. Unit is awesome in my opinion. Liked everything about it. Much easier to use than the built in unit in our MBZ. However, after 3 weeks of using it, the first unit lost contact with the satellite signal. Took it back and got another one to replace. This one had the same problem, but only lasted about 2 weeks. Must have been a bad batch of them I guess. Will try another brand. Too bad, as I really liked the device.

The mapping is really off. It is not current for my area. When I was looking for a business, I ended up blocks away. Just lucky to spot it on my way back to the main street.

    Wasn't user friendly

I bought this for my parents who are first time GPS users and the instructions that came with it were very poor. You almost have to know the exact address of where you are going which isn't useful if you have no idea what the address is. I couldn't even figure the thing out to try to explain it to them. The touch buttons on the unit didn't respond well and you had to press REALLY hard sometimes to get it to respond to the command. It went back into the box and was returned to the store!

So I bought this a year a go to go on a trip to Florida with. Lets just say that this GPS took me right through DC and that was the longest way possible. Even around my town I use it and it takes me way over to the other side of town from where I want to go. It gets me lost, and just basically doesn't save any time. I was driving through AR and on the road it told me to be on the all of a sudden it was recalculating saying I was off course and the map didn't even show me on a road.

Bought this gps after breaking my sony gps and had to take it back once and will have to take back this one too. The first one I got I put it on the mans voice and it sounded like the speaker was dying so I changed it to the womens voice and the speak kept going in and out. Took it back and got the same one and the mans voice sounds better but now both voices the speaker goes in and out. Not really happy with this gps and now searching for another brand.

I love this gps, when it works. Unfortunately it hardly ever works. It seems to lock up most when I'm out of town. It can stay locked up for a week. There is no customer service or support. It is useless. I have a free update which I can't use because it does't work. Why wouldn't they have a hard reset button. I have only owned Garmin brand gps systems. I am look for a new gps and I will look at other products first.
