    Pleased after major fix

It's a great little unit...finds satellites quickly and reprograms lightning fast. The unit I received had a programming fault that only got diagnosed once I got online with Garmin's software technicians. It took several frustrating days of emails and phone calls to tech support before they finally offered this assistance. One tech support insisted that I had the wrong USB cable so I went out and purchased one with the Garmin label on it only to get the same result. They're phone support also seems to be understaffed as there was always a long wait period before getting someone to talk to. In the end, after about an hour on the phone working with the programming guy (who reprogrammed the unit remotely) my nuvi works wonderfully!!

This is a nice model Garmin. It is accurate even on small country roads. The pedestrial and bicycle features are nice, too. Only thing I would have added would have been an AC adaptor. Some people, such as myself, do not have a working cigarette lighter. Adaptor should be included, not optional.

I got a great price from Bust Buy on this gps and I am very pleased with the features and easy set up. I have a TomTom in my other vehicle and this Garmin gps is as easy to use and as accurate as the TomTom

    Garmin 255 W

I think the Garmin is great. This is my first gps(besides my cell phone) Mine has the traffic and weather updates, which is a must have by the way. It can route you around traffic jams and accidents before you get to them. I tried it side by side with a magellan. It was a little better, the only thing I liked about the magellan is it would alert you 2 miles before your turn, and again one mile before your turn. The magellan also is easier to type in the town name, because it is a little better a predicting what you are gonna type. The garmin usually alerts you 1 mile before your turn. All in all, the garmin a good device to have, I would by it again. It can be a pain typing in a town name. Happy Hunting

Only used a couple times... This technology is amazing. I have not had any problems with it locking up or the screen freezing. I would recommend this model for people looking for a gps and don't need all the bells and whistles. Its simple to use and more accurate than pc online directions.

We love it, recalulates fast if you miss a turn, easy to follow and program with voice street names feature. The look up a store/resort/gas station directory feature is awesome for use on vacation's. Big screen and touch functions are nice. No custom map feature to create your own route.

I bought this on Black Friday and my wife "gave" it to me for Xmas. Very good price of $130 with lifetime traffic. I have used it just a few times but it does a great job. It is very fast at calculations and extremely accurate. Lots of useful features, I'm very happy with this Garmin.

I bought 3 of these online on Black Friday. 1 for myself and 2 as gifts. One of the best values for the money! It is so precise that my directionally challenged daughter will never get lost again! Should have purchased them years ago!! So easy to use and I really have no complaints!

I have purchased 40 of these units. You can turn it on and use all the basic functions right away. Traffic alerts are great. For the price you can't beat it. I will be purchasing more very soon!!! Map zooming in and out when you are reaching your destination is very easy to view.

This is a great Nav, and very simple to use. I love the traffic feature and it was easy to setup. Updating the Garmin software was very time consuming and diffucult, but the Nav is the best I've had. It replaced a TOM TOM about 10 years old. It picks up the signal very quickly.

    Works Great!

I started playing with it right away. Once the co-ordinates were loaded (there is a little lag time), it gave me the directions and worked immediately. I put in one address and purposely didn't go with the directions. It re-calculated and continued to work as described. Two comments: while the directions for a long distance trip were very good, it said to make a left into the compound while the hotel's directions and a visual check showed the hotel was on the right. #2, this GPS has the traffic alert, in which it will re-route you if there is congestion ahead. On the way home, it re-routed me. I heard it say take Rte. A; whereas, I had been on Rte. B (which was the route I'd taken to get to the hotel). I stayed on Rte. B and went right into the traffic jam. I didn't realize it was re-routing me due to traffic. I simply thought it was taking me back a different way. I've had fun with it and it has worked just fine in other outings.

We have used this to drive to South Carolina. It made the trip so easy for us. Told us traffic to avoid, restaurants/fast food, gas stations. Easy to use and no problems with the maps.

Great unit. I love the traffic feature, note you must be plugged into power to access traffic, it does not work on battery. The battery life is about 3-5 hours of constant use, if I recall correctly. I can't remember exactly what I measured. If you have it in the car, make sure it's on the dash for like 1 minute before using it, it takes a little bit of effort to find the satellite it can not see the sky. It will find the sat eventually. This is pretty typical of GPS units I believe. you can start driving in the general correct direction while it seeks and it will eventually give you directions once it finds the signal. The screen is nice and big and easy to read. I love the drive to point feature, I can add a bunch of addresses and make it stop at one then the next then the next. The only thing is the time estimates are horrible, I am used to using Google Maps online and printing directions, those time estimates are great!

If only this baby came with the ac power cord and usb cable we'd have a 5 star all around device. If you have an old Razr V-3 ac charger, that works just fine with this unit as it does with my unit. As for the usb cable, this is a must if you want the latest maps and other downloads from Garmin. Don't be fooled into thinking you need to buy the Garmin Sync cable for $22.95 plus tax if applicable. You don't have to, all you have to do is buy a usb to mini usb (A to B) that has a ferrite cylinder inline and your all good. Oh, make sure you get five contacts (inside) on the mini side of the usb cable. I bought mine from Monoprice.com #5448 for $3.13, beats $22.95 any time. Buy and enjoy. Another thing is that the model I bought from BB was the 255WT, the "T" stands for traffic but has floating ads that comes with this free service. The other traffic service MS Direct will be discontinued in Jan. 2012. "W" stands for 4.3" screen

Great GPS, Far superior to TomTom XLS

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had a TomTom One XLS for a year before finally picking up a Garmin. I wanted to throw the TomTom out the window on multiple occasions. So far, the Garmin seems far better at giving accurate directions and far less annoying. One big plus for Garmin over TomTom is that Garmins actually tell you which side of the road to look on or for your destination. Over a year ago when I shopped for GPSs I looked and thought reviews were similar for both TomTom units and Garmin units, so I figured they were on par with each other. Not true. TomToms are garbage compared to Garmins. My brother wanted to buy my TomTom off of me and I told him I couldn't do that in good conscience because it would infuriate him just like it infuriated me. I sold it on ebay... still feel a little guilty. Not that the TomTom was broken, it still worked as good as new. But new or used that TomTom was junk. Garmin all the way.

I've owned several different gps's, and this one is a total winner. I found this on sale for $79.99, what a deal. The last gps I owned was a Garmin nuvi, and it still works fine, but the maps are out of date, and it doesn't do traffic without a subscription. For 79.99 its a no brainer, it works great, hell to many people expect gps's to be the end all be all. If you don't know how to get there it will.

    Handy Unit

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have not used the unit too much yet since I have not travelled since purchasing it. It does not know where I Live, fo some reason it thinks I live on the other end of the road from where I actually live. I did use it to find an address I was unfamiliar with. I had printed out a map from one of the bigger internet map providers, and tried the unit. I came to a intersection where the map would have me take a left, but the Garmin said turn right. I folllowed the Garmins directions and it carried me right into the parking lot. So far I am well pleased with the unit. It is nice that it shows the posted speed limit on roads as you travel.

Excellent GPS bought at a great price during thanksgiving. The directions are accurate. Since I live in NJ, traffic is common. A traffic receiver is packaged as part of this product and I find the free lifetime traffic very helpful. Highly recommended.
