Love being able to track my daily walks and runs without having my phone. Very convenient and easy to use. I like being able to customize the watch face as well!

I like this watch. It does the job. Touchscreen is finicky at times after swimming. The face is large for an everyday watch. I get negative comments a lot about how ridiculous it looks on my wrist. Still liked it enough to keep. Hopefully next generations will be smaller.

We appreciate your feedback. We are happy to hear you kept the device, and are sad to hear you are not fully satisfied. We highly recommend rinsing the device and drying it after your swims. This should help you with the touchscreen response. I don't have to have my phone on me when I workout. I love that I can swim, run(indoor and outdoor) bike with it. I enjoy all the specs. One of the most impressive to me is the find my phone...the only down side is that is has to sync to the phone before being able to find it.

Had the two Microsoft bands and they did not hold up. I wear the band all day but remove it at night. The garmin is holding up very well. No problems at all. It has a lot of features that I have not even used.

The Vivoactive HR is a beast!

Since Garmin revealed the Vivoactive HR a few months back I was sold as I wanted a good fitness and activity tracker that could keep up with my busy lifestyle. Fitbit was not going to cut it, I wanted something that had GPS, Heart rate monitering, smart watch features, and could go with me along for a swim and this device so far has really impressed me. After a 5k run, 10 mile bike ride and walking all day it tracked everything without breaking a sweat even though I was! Having both a touch screen and buttons together make easy navigation. Everything is intuitive, very little instructions needed. Garmin has really stepped up their game with their Garmin connect app and Connect IQ, a must in order to make a fitness/activity/smart watch really benefit it's owner. You get nice graphs, progress, and tons of data, I mean tons. If you are a data and analysis Geek you will be happy. -Display is super sharp, sunlight readable, and a very good back light. Also very responsive to touch and swipes. -Band is very comfy, using a soft and flexible material, I think it is silicone. -Can track your sleep and is a comfortable watch to wear 24/7 -Good battery life. Based on my usage I would rate it about 5 days. Using GPS takes the most juice. -Lots of watch faces, apps, widgets, etc from the Garmin store for free. Their software is open source so many people have developed their own cool apps. -Wrist based heart rate sensor is very responsive, with the option to include ANT+ HRM and sensors like the Virb camera, bike sensors. So what do I not like? It is basically a block on your wrist. It lacks any style, with the exception of a few color bands, however it looks like a activity tracker, not a watch like the Fenix 3 or Fitbit Blaze. What makes it look nice however is the watch faces you can customize with color, data screens. Also I am a bit concerned about the screen and bezel getting marked up and scratched. I would recommend a screen protector Overall for the price this device is packed full of features, and Garmin has really impressed me.

This is my third fitness watch that I have purchased and trying the Garmin brand for the first time. My other two have been the Microsoft bands 1 & 2. I work in retail and my first band got destroyed and was snagging everything. The second generation model had a battery issue which is a manufacture defect and Microsoft never recall it. So those did not work out for me. This Garmin has been nice as it looks like a watch and the wrist band is flexible. Simple operations and ease of use for this model. I have been impressed with the battery. It last so long for a fitness watch. The reason is because the screen stays very low in brightness. You can adjust it for brighter output or just tap the screen to view it. I have not used it outside yet to see how it will be effected by the sun. This product also has a heart monitor which is always on. It also has GPS which my Microsoft bands did not have. The Garmin website has all the data on you with cool graphs and easy read outs. I mostly use this product for my steps and my sleeping pattern. This product is loaded with all kinds of physical activities so you can track your performance. I like this watch so far and hope it can handle the beating like all my other watches and bands. The only downfall is it wont work with my Windows phone.

I have been using vivoactive HR for quite some time now. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Battery life is good. Tracks running and walking quite well Looks fine has a good amount of surface area You can have all your notifications in the watch Good sunlight readability. GPS and GLONASS capability Cons: Backlight is too low in low light. Gesture wake up of screen doesnt work a lot of times Gesture wake up take q few seconds to light up and you have to hold it for some time before the backlight turns on Touchscreen is good but not that great Notifications have a bit of lag time. I like the watch as I got it at 50 percent of MRP. So considering the price its value for money otherwise I would not recommend it at regular pricing.

It’s a great watch whether you are active in sports or diving or whatever. I enjoy the heart rate and steps features. The first one broke at the strap pin connection, the second one the screen cracked when I got hit at work. I definitely recommend spending seven or eight dollars for a protective glass which lasted me about two years before having to replace the protective glass.

I was extremely hesitant to buy this watch mainly because of the looks. I wanted something that I could wear all the time. Church, business, work, everywhere. That's why I considered the Apple Watch or a Fitbit. But I love swimming and I perspire more on areas where I have something against my skin (I.e a watch on my wrist) when I work out and run, so I decided that a not water-resistant smart watch was not the way to go. After doing a ton of research I went ahead and bought it. And man, am I satisfied! She may not look as good as an Apple Watch, but the amount of data and how smooth it runs is unbeatable. It has more features and collects more data than I know what to do with. Sleep, calories, steps, distance, HR, time, cadence, everything. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who is choosing fitness features over how it looks. It's incredibly comfortable, extremely accurate, and very user-friendly. This is my first smart watch / fitness watch purchase and I believe I bought the best one, especially considering the price tag. If you're on the fence, buy it. You won't regret it.

Finally I have found the best one

I have tried two Garmin models before this one. First attempt was the Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire Plus which I had returned because I could not read the fonts on the watch (I am over 50 and I would need reading glasses for this watch) and it was too heavy to wear all time, specially when you are sleeping. The Fenix is an amazing watch, don't take me wrong. It just wasn't for me. Second attempt was the Garmin Vivosmart HR+. I had to return it because the GPS wasn't working at all. Perhaps it was a bad unit, but then I realized it didn't have also a dedicated outdoor bike application that I could track the realtime information about the ride. Then I decide to try the Vivoactive HR, which I love it. It has everything that I was looking for. Realtime bike tracking, definitely a waterproof watch that I can track my swimming activities and wear even during shower, very nice sleep monitor, 24/7 heart monitor which is very close to the strap monitor and is also a smartwatch. I have just retired my Apple iWatch over this Garmin. I just take it off to charge it. it last at least 3 bike rides using the GPS (each ride takes about 1 ½ hour ever other day). It also synchronize with both Strava and MapMyRide applications that I use on my iPhone. It transfer all the .fit data information about map, heat rate, elevation, speed, etc... Love it!!! It is light weight and you can replace the wrist band if it eventually breaks. The only concern that I have is the backlight when you are indoor in a dark environment. But it is not a big deal for me. It is compensated with the fact it display wonderfully under the sunlight. Some watches that I had were so difficult to read under the sunlight because of glare in the visor. So far so good. I will try to post updates if something happens.

My husband and I both use the VivoActive HR and love the watch. It is great as a running watch with accurate GPS; it covers many different exercises; it monitors heart rate with good accuracy, tracks sleep, provides calorie burn info, etc. It has large numbers for the watch face in clock mode and numerous data fields that are available during exercise activities. It also has about 12 hours of battery life while in GPS mode.

    Purpose built - great watch

I have to admit, I almost returned this watch after a first look/receiving it (bought from Best Buy online). I was a little put off by the screen (a little dim) and some of the functionality. I am truly glad I didn't. My primary function for the watch is tracking rides (MTB) and a full test today proved it's worth. The screen is completely visible while riding, either in direct sunlight or tree/cloud cover. Note that I switched the background color to white. Once I read Garmin's rationale for the screen and type, everything made a lot of sense. The watch was accurate, auto start/stop was flawless and all notifications to the watch work incredibly well. Battery life is clearly strong as I barely got into the the 70% area after 6 hours off the charger and over 2 hours of active GPS tracking. The size does not bother me at all, I'm med build and 6'1" and it was comfortable the entire time. Still wearing it actually. The Garmin mobile app is a little goofy but it syncs directly with Strava automatically so no complaints. I think the HR, HR zones and elevation data looks nicer in the Garmin app. If you are getting this watch for fitness tracking and activity, you won't be disappointed. If you want something smaller with a really bright screen, as more of a fashion piece then get an Apple Watch. The Garmin does everything you would need/want for tracking and is waterproof (more so than any othe watches I looked at). I looked at the Blaze, the Mio Alpha 2 and a few other Garmins and was replacing a Mio Alpha.

The Garmin Vivoactive HR is a very good fitness watch (not a great one) and a decent smartwatch. On the fitness side, having GPS and a built in HR monitor is great. The app is decent as well. It has actually improved a lot with the latest update. But Garmin chose to not let you do interval workouts on this device. Also much lesser costing polar devices give you a much better feedback on your workout training benefits. As a smartwatch, it shows you notifications which is nice. You obviously don't get the buttery smooth interface of watchOS or Android wear, but in turn gets you a battery life of 5-7days of mixed usage.

I have now had my Vivoactive HR for over a month as I have been in the final stages of triathlon preparation. What most people don't realize is that the product will continue to improve with software updates. It has all the same sensors as more expensive options and 3rd party developers have done a lot to improve functionality via the Connect IQ Store apps. I've been very pleased with HR monitoring, sleep monitoring, GPS accuracy, lap count accuracy when swimming, and biking stats. Open water swimming is a bit off but I believe this will get better with updates. As far as smart watch features go, you can configure all notifications, including Google Hangouts to alert. If you are looking for something sexy and stylish...go elsewhere, this is for fitness tracking and data gathering to help you meet fitness goals. This is the first device I've seen in the sub $300 price range that does it all and is waterproof to 50 meters. It is durable and comfortable. Oh...battery life. I just returned from vacation for a week and never charged it once. This included 2 activities for about 2 hours where GPS was turned on.

I did a a lot of research before selecting the Garmin VivoActive HR. I previously had gone through 2 fitbit devices, the Flex and then the Charge HR. Both were great but i was wanting more from my watch. I wanted a full waterproof watch with built in GPS for running and golf features so i can just walk out on the course and play and track... The Vivoactive HR has been fantastic, running is great, it tracks my routes, displays a map on the watch as you run along with stats. Has great watch faces and its completely customizable through the app. In addition the battery life is fantastic, I get about 5-6 days off one charge. As a bonus the Golf app just works so well, i am not aware of any other smart watch that has golf, running, swimming, cycling, x-fit all in one! Highly Recommend this device! Way better than anything FITBIT has to offer, the apple watch while nice just doesn't have the battery life, golf or the waterproof features needed for daily use. The garmin does and if your looking for something sleeker the Garmin Fenix HR is a beauty as well.

    Too Big

I had a Fitbit Charge HR but the rubber on the band and body started bubbling so I was looking for a replacement. I wanted a tracker that has heart rate monitoring, and is waterproof. I didn't need dive watch waterproofing, just enough for the pool, hot tub, beach, and most importantly, snowboarding. I really liked the Garmin Vivoactive HR. It was a great tracker, very accurate with my steps, heart rate, and GPS on my hikes. The only problem I had with the watch is it is too big and bulky. It really protrudes from your wrist! It looks like an ankle monitor. If they could make this watch the size of say, the Fitbit Blaze or Surge it would be a winner. Also, I think Garmin should tweak their app (it's like looking at a flight simulator video game control panel) and app store (Garmin Connect IQ) a bit. There are some modes like Hike, for example, that Garmin should work to integrate into their environment rather than rely on third party developers and an app store with buggy interactions (downloading a new watch face and the Hike app took several attempts). In the end though, it mostly came down to how big the watch is. I was banging it on stuff and it would catch on sleeves I was inserting my arm into. I felt like I was going to hit it on something and break it.

I love this watch, that being said, I am going to try to cut some of the glowing praise and stick to being helpful. If you are looking for glowing praise, look no further, this watch is awesome, otherwise continue reading. Pros: I am very active, and this watch tracks it all. The watch is very smart, I don't know what magic goes into figuring out the difference up or down stairs, swimming or walking, running or driving, but it knows and will track automatically. The Heartrate feature is spot on, i tested it. It is waterproof, i tested that too! The watch connects to gps so fast, you will be looking for the voodoo again. The app provides so much data, and the goals are dynamic (they change based off you) and that helps keep you motivated. The battery life is long, even with as active as I am, you are looking at around a week of battery life before you have to charge, wven with gps and Bluetooth. Cons: The app store could use some work, it is not the most user friendly or robust experience, not a deal breaker at all. This watch could use a more detailed user guide. Some of the apps feature customization i have yet to figure out, kind of complicated. So, the watch is waterproof, but it only has two hard buttons, that being said, if you are swimming, it is difficult to switch screens because like all touchscreens, they don't work well when they are wet. Overall : I would buy this again, in fact, I probably will buy one for my wife as soon as I can convince her she needs one. If you are on the fence and need a watch that does it all wothout being too focused on one thing, this is it. Pull the trigger, you won't regret it.
