This is the only device that nearly has all the characteristics I was seeking - long battery life, gps, waterproof, touch screen, sleep tracking, HR tracking, etc. The only downside is the screen is poorly lit and there is no way to adjust the brightness. But at Black Friday deal for $120, I really can't complain. I wouldn't buy this for its asking retail price.

upgraded to this little Garmin from an age old Forerunner 305. The Vivoactive HR Smartwatch has so many more features and functionality, quite amazing. Smaller footprint, great battery life and tons of features I'm just now beginning to explore. I don't really use it as a wristwatch (haven't used one in 15+ years) but primarilly to log my running activities. Quite accurate and great combination with heartrate monitor (without the clunky breast strap from the older Forerunners). I highly recommend this for the active sports enthusiast. Regardless of how serious you might be.

I ended up returning this watch because I didn't like how it looked or felt on my small wrist but I'm still giving it 4 stars because it has an impressive line-up of features and is a quality product. I ended up getting a Forerunner 235 instead. I'm actually happy I went back to a running watch because I still run. I originally picked the Vivoactive HR because I loved all the activity tracking features and the heart rate monitor, but I don't miss the extra features I gave up when I switched to the Forerunner and for me personally, I like the way the Forerunner looks and feels much better as well as the extra running features it has which the Vivoactive HR doesn't. I previously owned an older model Forerunner and loved it as well as the new one. The Vivoactive HR has an impressive set of activity tracking features, though, the GPS function works great if you like to run and the heart rate monitor is an excellent plus, so if that's what you're looking for and the shape works for you, go for it. Garmin makes a great product and has excellent customer service.

Review based on only having Garmin for about 2 weeks. Only gave 4 stars as this is my first and only smartwatch for no basis for comparison with others. So far everything is good. Accurate measurement for running distance and seems to be accurate for step counts. Don't know about heart rate but seems to be good. Battery life is good. So far a good purchase.

I bought the watch recently during a Black Friday sale for half price. I'm new to the fitness watches and saw that this item had great reviews. I haven't learned to use all the apps, but do like the HR, sleep tracker, text/phone/etc. alerts, "waterproofness", and step-tracker. I have a lot to learn about it, yet, but excited to see what all else it can do.

After using a Garmin Vivofit for a number of years, I wanted to upgrade to something with a HR monitor. The Apple watch was too costly for what I needed and the Garmin had all the features I wanted and was water resistant, without having to press any buttons. I find the HR monitor pretty accurate - it tracks well with my RHR. I like the stair tracker since I seem to go up and down the stairs in our 2 story colonial a lot. Of course, I needed the step counter, which is critical and customizable. I don't use the GPS as I'm not a runner and our biking areas are not that complex. I was concerned over the wrist size. My wrist is between 7 and 7 1/8 inches. I decided to get the regular fit and I have a good 2 inches beyond the clasp. The band retainer fits well on this size for my wrist too. I'm glad I didn't get the large size as the band would have been too long. I do like the vibration that reminds me to move (I have a desk job) and the pat on the back when I hit the step and stairs goals. The Connect app seems to work really well and the text messages come through well on the phone, along with the vibration telling me one is there. I haven't explored the other features but I'm very satisfied with it for what I use it for now.

I originally had the fitbit blaze and although I loved how stylish it was i didn't like needing my phone for it to work and limited capabilities. But in GPS is awesome as is all of the options, it's a Workhorse. Only reason for -1 star is its bulky on my little wrist, although not comfortable. I got this on the black Friday sale price.. a steal!

I need a watch to help count my laps in the pool. This works perfectly! Although, I'm getting use to using the heart rate monitor which is disabled during the swim. None the less, it counts laps and the swolf "swim golf" is fun to try n beat. The screen is bright during the day and really dark at night when I do most of my running. With a flick of the wrist or touching the screen makes it just a little brighter. Indoor or outdoor cycling is spot on and connects to the bikes computer. It's not a tri watch but for the price you can't beat it. The watch is fast and switching between sports hasn't bothered me. For weight lifting it must be worn tight to get a good heart rate reading. I do find myself taking it off and drying my wrist to get a good reading. To sum it up, nothing beats this in the price range.

Very functional activity tracker. GPS connects much faster than my previous GPS watch. The app is easy to use and provides good visuals. Lots of watch faces to choose from and can even use your own picture! It's not a great quality picture, but fun nonetheless. The stair tracker isn't accurate and the step counter still uses an accelerometer to guess if you are moving, so you can still not get credit for steps if you aren't swinging your arm. Haven't had a chance to use the Golf app yet, but excited about having the capability. Its cool to get notifications on your wrist - didn't think I'd use it, but take advantage of it now that I have it! Heart Rate monitor provides good info too!

It's got all the features I want: GPS, biking, hiking, waterproof, swimming, notifications, heart rate. The phone app is good too. It's really sturdy and the battery lasts for days. The display is always on. A little clunky but still a really nice device.

I was researching activity trackers for a while now. This watch is awesome. Garmin makes good products. My favorite part is I charge it once a week. I was hesitant because of the rectangular face. But it’s not as bad as I thought at all. It’s comfortable I barely know I have it on. I love the data it collects. Can’t beat the $120 Black Friday price

I am able to do all the activities I love, running, golf, strength training, etc and it calculates calories burned along with gps.
I also have access to emails, texts, call, etc.
Awesome that is waterproof as well!
I am a fit and active mom and it tracks steps and movement throughout the time I where the watch. I am thrilled that it syncs with most apps as well.
The only thing is I wished they made it in purple :)

I bought this for my girlfriend who loves it! It tracks everything. She really likes going to connect IQ and customizing it. Only complaint is that it's not very bright to view. We've gone online and tried everything but can't get the face to be brighter.

Great tracker, pretty accurate.
Pros:
1. Great accuracy in tracking.
2. Buzzes you to keep moving.
3. Waterproof
4. Tracking for indoor and outdoor activities although i do weights, i dont see any way to track that. (may be there is, but i dont see any widget for that)
5. App gives a lot of insights, very detailed on the UI.
6. Very comfy on the hands, lightweight and the straps stretch out to fit your wrist.
7. Battery life is decent, partly due to the always dim screen- lasts about 6-7 days with glonass and other options on.
8. Lots of custom watch faces available on garmin connect app. cool stuff.
Cons:
1. Screen's a bummer, not high resolution, display is not sharp as in pictures. Kind of dim and hard to read in default settings.
2. Garmin app is a headache, sync is slow and sometimes does not sync properly. It crashed a couple of times on my iphone.
3. No wall charger in the box, everytime Ive to plug into a PC.
4. Sometimes i ve noticed it does not count stairs climbed, my iphone tracks better than the garmin.
5. Heart rate is not bang on accurate, separate band required for accurate tracking (sold separately.)
Overall a great product- minus the bad screen and sync issues.

Upgraded from an original Basis watch to this and it's night and day when comparing this watch. Battery life gets you at least a full week. GPS is fast. I love how it automatically connects to Strava and does the syncing for me. The garmin smartphone app, while it has a ton of data can be a little confusing at first. The app does allow you to customize just about everything on this watch. The only con I have for the watch itself is the screen could be brighter. It's sometimes difficult to see, depending on the light. Overall this watch is great!

This is a great fitness watch. I had a FitBit Charge before this, and I wanted a watch more dedicated to fitness and an active lifestyle. Having an integrated GPS chip and wrist-based heart rate monitoring is great. But as a cyclist, the ability to pair this watch with ANT+ sensors (speed, cadence, power) is a godsend. I have an Edge 520 head unit on my road bike, and it's really nice to have both my watch and my cycle computer sync data to the same place. Also, with the firmware updates that increased the screen brightness dramatically, my only issue with this watch is resolved! I highly recommend this watch.
I purchased this watch at my local Best Buy, and must have received a lemon. It would power off randomly in the middle of the day, lose my step count and all settings. On the plus side, Garmin customer support was fantastic and worked with me to resolve my issue. Unfortunately, that meant they had to send me a new watch, but this one is perfect.

Previously used the vivofit hr from Garmin. Like it but didn’t like the screen size. The Vivoactive HR is much nicer with more features and twice the display size. I’m an avid road cyclists, so this watch comes in handy for many reasons, ie. heart rate, intensity minutes, and gps.

I tried the Vivosmart HR first, but find I wanted a GPS to track my rides and more options for recording my exercises. The plus want out yet, so I went for the Vivoactive HR. At first the interface didn't seem as good as the other, but I quickly got used to using the device. The added color is nice and it's very configurable. Notifications are very well done as well. As for comfort, it's not as comfortable as the other, but again that got much better over time. I have found compared to trackers without a heart rate monitor it forces me to exercise more intensely. I love using it to track a bike ride-the built-in GPS makes it much easier than tracking with my phone.

This watch has a variety of useful tools that have been very nice to have. One thing I really like about the watch is the notifications feature. This allows for me to glance at my watch instead of digging for my phone every time there is an alert. Secondly, I use it quite frequently for exercise purposes which there is a list to choose from. I haven't used most of the exercise features as of yet, but plan on using more of these in the future. It will record your steps, keep up with your heart rate, and when you are performing vigorous activity versus regular activity. The battery life is good as well, I usually charge it every 4 or 5 days. The watch has also proven to be water resistant, as i have gotten into the shower several times and forgotten that it was on my wrist and hasn't had any problems with any type of moisture. To sum it up, for me, this watch does all i need and then some. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quality watch.

This watch works beautifully! It holds a charge for up to 7 days. The GPS connects fast and the app works very well in monitoring your progress. Love the always on feature of the watch face too. Worth the price for a sports watch that works everyday and everywhere!
