Good all-around fitness and activity watch

Works great as a fitness tracker. I use it for running and cycling but it's got a bunch of other pre-programmed activities and available custom activity for the user to set. It's nice not to have to wear a heart rate strap. HR functions OK, but can be intermittent as the watch slips around your wrist. A large amount of metrics available, particularly if you sync with mygarmin online. The HR functions as an ANT+ sensor so you can pair with ANT+ compatible devices such as Garmin Edge computers, treadmills, etc. It will also pair with other ANT+ devices such as speed/cadence sensors. The watch face is supposed to automatically adjust brightness, but it's a bit dim for my liking. People that need reading glasses will not be able to easily read the watch without the glasses. A large number of extensions are available online to customize the watch for activities, watch faces, etc. Optionally interfaces with a mobile phone over bluetooth. It's become invaluable for me whenever I forget my phone in the car. The vivoactive HR alerts me when my phone rings.

After having lost a Withings Pulse O2 to an underwater river incident(not water proof at all)..I decided to upgrade to a device that was waterproof (yet to be tested by me), I love the fact the Vivoactive HR also has a bike computer that will replace my current bike computer..This watch is pretty awesome..did i mention it also has a built in heart monitor, multitude of activities including cross country skiing, sleep monitor and indoor running and more. great battery life a week +..my only complaint is the watch face does not illuminate very well.(not bright enough) .it is very hard to see in light..over all great functionality with very accurate results. I also would fault it for being too sensitive and shutting off when timing/monitoring an activity. This might be my own clumsiness, but I have accidentally shut off the system when in the middle of skiing and indoor biking, the on off button is very sensitive. overall great computer for multi activity athletes both outdoor and indoor. the waterproof is such a huge bonus!!

I bought this to track my activity but ended up returning it after a few days. I got it because it was waterproof and had built in gps, but after using it decided I'd be better off with something else. If you want a tracker that is water proof or don't take your phone with you on a run and want gps, then this is probably the best bet and I would have kept it if I swam. The screen was ok and I had no problems in the sun, but it was dim indoors. The app worked and told you what you wanted but it just feels old and could be much better. One other issue I had it didn't work with the main app I use, UA record, thought it does work well with myfitnesspal. I've moved over to a Fitbit blaze as the app is more user friendly. The vivoactice does allow more customization on the tracker itself including some limited apps compared to the blaze, but not enough for the price difference. Overall it was decent but not enough to keep it for the $250 price tag. Also it is just a tracker, so don't expect it to do much other then track and sync with the app.

This watch has no call capability! I don't need an extension of my phone, I like having my HR, steps, activities, location, and everything with different watch faces from the connect IQ store. I love the move function and how it auto calculates a higher step challenge or intensity/active minutes every day! The notifications also help at a glance while I'm at work, the watch is easy to connect, stays charged for days and isn't too big on the wrist! I love the widgets with the weather and music change function when listening to Bluetooth headphones!

I have had this for 2 months so far and it has been very trouble free. I love that the battery life lasts very long. I Just charge it up while I shower every few days. Very accurate as far as distances and steps. The heart rate display is useful as well for intense cardio. It has almost made me a bit OCD about my health now that I am even tracking my sleep quality with it.

I bought this as a present for my wife for Christmas... I was most influenced by the GPS usage for distance, not a step counter... It is also waterproof but I am not sure of the depth... It was a great deal on Today's Special Value, so I pulled the trigger on it... Maybe I will update this review after she uses it for a while...

I've had the vivoactive HR for about a month now and I love it. The heart rate monitor is built in and I was curious how accurate it actually was, being wrist based, so I strapped on my normal heart rate monitor with chest strap and did some workouts. The bpm were off a little sometimes compared to the chest strap, but usually no more than 2-3 bpm which is insignificant, but most of the time the bpms were the same. The cool thing is that you can track your heart rate during workouts which I wasn't able to do with the chest strap. The sleep tracker is pretty cool too and pretty much accurate to when you actually fall asleep and wake up. There's another cool feature that I've found super helpful and that's the Find Your Phone app on the vivoactive. As long as you're connected to your phone via bluetooth, you can make your phone give off a steady chime so that you can dig into that one corner of the couch that you hadn't checked yet and finally find your phone. With the Connect app from Garmin, you can track your runs and your bike rides including pace, elevation, how long you are in each heart rate zone during your workout and even use your watch as a rangefinder on the golf course. I have no buyer's remorse with the vivoactive HR. Now I just have to use the data to improve everything I want to improve.

This is my 3rd fitness tracker, my first garmin. This watch is fantastic! Great battery life, fast gps lock, tracks lots of activities, has other apps you can install. The few criticisms: Auto backlights when you raise the watch to look at the face doesn't work as well as Fitbit. Sleep tracking doesn't seem to be as accurate or insightful as Fitbit. Slow sync with phone. Plastic face started getting little scratches after a few weeks (bought screen protectors). It can't transport me through time and space instantaneously.

    Accurate HR, but large screen

Pros: I was looking for something comparable to the HR monitor of my Polar chest strap, with the ease of a watch. The heart rate monitor is within a few bpm (much more accurate than my Fitbit HR). Much more durable than both Fitbit HR's I had (that lasted less than 6 months each with normal wear & tear). Love having a sunlight readable display. Battery uses about 30-40% during a 3 day period, but I haven't gone beyond that without charging. Cons: Very Large screen. I am 5'4" with a small, but not petite bone structure. Would be nice to have a smaller size for women (and more color options too). I have only had it for a a few weeks so I'm sure there's a learning curve, but it isn't as easy to set up a workout with the watch or app as my Fitbit was. It would be nice to have options to turn notifications on/off with a toggle so they aren't coming in during a workout.

Been very happy with this watch, I have had it for about 3 months, first activity watch I have owned. I really only take it off when I have to charge it. I mountain bike a lot and bought it for the GPS feature, but it offers so much more. I also use it to track my crossfit workouts, and even when I walk my dogs. The HR monitor is pretty actuate, I have compared it to the heart monitor at work. The way it graphs the heart rate to elevation change is pretty cool. This watch does way more than what I need. I have no issue with the display. The only issue I would have is the sleep tracker, but I didn't buy it to see how well I sleep. Overall a great watch, I am now a better person.

My Garmin - vivoactive HR Smartwatch is fantastic. Not only can I monitor how many steps I take daily I can also monitor my heart rate, floors climbed, intensity minutes and measure calories burned throughout the day. The watch face is fantastically large as well. I can actually SEE what time it is without having to reach for my glasses. It is well worth the money.

I really like this fitness watch better than my vivosmart hr. While the heart rate monitor is better, it still isn't as accurate as I would like during strenuous activity. I can be completely out of breath, heart pounding, look at my heart rate and it reads 94! Lol not even close at times! But, I haven't seen any from fit bit or Garmin that are accurate.

Garmin put everything in this activity band. GPS, water Rating 5 atm, HR monitoring. Comfortable fit. The only reason it didn't get a 5 is the visibility of the screen inside is hard to see.

You can even use it in a vehicle to check speed and changes in elevation like going over the Skyway Bridge or up and down Hills in Northern Florida. Battery last a long time. GPS and heart rate measurements are very accurate. Watch is rugged but I did crack the screen hitting it on a piece of metal.

I couldn't believe the quality and battery life. I owned it for a little over a year and a half and then the screen seemed to want to go to black. I wasn't sure if it was a software problem or a quality issue, but the Geek Squad Protection was sure useful as back up. I also never took off my watch so it was in great shape when I upgraded to the newer Samsung Gear Fit. Unfortunately they stopped making this particular watch so I ended up switching.
