Vivoactive doesn't impress me. It is more activity tracker - but even there it fails quite a lot. Pros : comfortable to wear, Readable in bright sunlight, Battery lasts for many days Cons: Too many. Not a good HR tracker. My Microsoft Band (version 1) from 2 years ago does a much better job. Unfortunately that is getting worn out and Microsoft discontinued their Band product, so I was trying out the Vivoactive. Sleep tracking is terrible. If you are sitting down, tt thinks you are asleep. No option to manually set sleep tracking on when you actually go to bed. It also does not track when you fall asleep or if you woke up in the middle of the night very well. Readings off by 2 hours on an average day than my very accurate Microsoft Band. Deep Sleep, Light sleep info in the Garmin Connect app is not accurate I think the problem lies in the fact that the Vivoactive's HR reading is very wrong. Smartwatch misses things like alarm, stop watch, countdown timer - all basic functions included in any 'Sport Watch' For all these basic functions it looks like we have to download individual apps. The app store is also confusing -Garmin doesn't have apps to cover these 3 basic watch functions. Activity tracker includes niche activities like SUP while not including Yoga. How many people do Yoga regularly in the USA - 10-20 million weekly. How many do SUP - maybe a few thousand weekly??. Garmin you fail. I selected a cardio (other) workout program for my Yoga today. HR reading from Vivoactive was 120 max, average 100, Calories 190 for an 1 hour intense Yoga class. My Microsoft Band read HR 140 Max, 120 Average, 400 Calories for the same class. I was wearing both to test their accuracy against each other. Usually Vivoactive shows higher HR, but today with the Cardio activity it was off by a lot. Step tracking - again not accurate. Even after calibration with a 30 minute brisk walk. Microsoft Band is better. Every morning my Vivoactive tells me I 'walked' 30-40 steps in my sleep !!! Every day it is 20% higher than Microsoft Band. Swimming- didn't measure my 1 swim in the last week of wearing Vivoactive. somehow during the swim the button to end the activity got pushed (poor positioning) when my hand must have brushed against the swim lane divider, so the activity monitoring stopped. I will try again soon, but not hopeful of good results. Move reminder is ok GPS tracking ok - during my biking. But biking activity does not have a pause/continue - to stop tracking, like when you are waiting for 2 minutes for the light to cross a trafficked road. Again something the Microsoft Band had. Garmin's usability experts need to be fired and replaced by people who actually do some activity in the real world.

Hello MVtech, Thank you for taking time to review the vívoactive HR. We wanted to take an opportunity to respond to some of the concerns that you had with your device. The first concern was with the heart rate accuracy. Please use the following FAQ link for more information and recommendations for getting the most accurate heart rate data: https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/xQwjQjzUew4BF1GYcusE59 or use this link to a video for heart rate performance tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TkK6ESaaMg. The next concern was with the sleep tracking. The vívoactive HR utilizes the automatic sleep tracking feature of Garmin Connect. In Garmin Connect you are able to manually set you sleep times, and edit this data if the sleep tracking does not reflect your sleep times. The vívoactive HR does have the ability to add a custom activity profile for Yoga. With a previous software update users were given the ability to add a Yoga activity profile. To do this select press the Action Key>Add New>Other>select a color>Yoga>select a GPS setting (most users select Off). The biking activity profile does have an Auto Pause setting that would automatically pause timer when you stop at a red light, and automatically resume the activity when you start cycling again. For more information and instructions for setting Auto Pause please refer to this full Owner’s Manual link: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivoactivehr/EN-US/GUID-6D3747A8-EB3E-4C32-9C06-C8AC081D0C84.html. We appreciate you taking time to review the vívoactive, and please visit www.garmin.com/support to find more resources if further assistance is needed with setting up or customizing the device. -JFH Garmin
