Good tracker, a little thick, bad app

The tracker is nice and allows for some limited apps. It is a little thick so not that easy to wear. The screen is great outside, but indoor its a little dim. It is waterproof and comes with HR. Overall, this was the tracker I wanted, but I ended up returning it because the Garmin apps is not very good. I ended up going with the Fitbit Blaze, while it doesn't do as much as the Garmin, the Fitbit app is better. If you just want a tracker and don't care too much about the app, then I would suggest you go with this.

If your primary focus is fitness tracking this is a great pick. Has apps for running, biking, swimming, golf, workouts and more. Plenty of standard data display types available such as overlays of heart rate vs elevation and speed vs distance. Also a good sleep monitor. The continuous heart rate monitoring also works well and is accurate in most conditions. Overall watch is solid water proof but you should consider adding a glass scratch guard lens to better protect the std. hard plastic one.

I upgraded after my previous vivofit started to go after 2+ years. This was a black Friday deal and I am quite happy with the price and the functionality - touch screen, more features, notifications. Hopefully I will use it for its intended purpose of tracking actual movement...

Great Fitness Watch for General Use

I was looking at the Garmin Vivoactive HR and the Fitbit Charge 2 and decided on this one because of the sports apps (including golf tracker). And am I glad I did! My wife ended up getting a Fitbit Charge 2 a few weeks later and I absolutely hate it. Its good for her needs but wasn't for mine. I enjoy the fitness apps for tracking pace, calories, heatrate, along with some of the other available apps from their store. The Fitbit Charge 2 is limited in that respect. I also like that it looks like a mans watch. The Fitbit is a little too dainty for my taste. Functionality is good on this watch. I'm happy with its features and content although it does have its flaws. Flaws include issues with updates - it continues to fail updates because of "not enough memory", even though I only have a couple added apps on it. The other big flaw is that the heartrate monitor and calorie counter is only accurate with running/walking activities (within 5% of a polar heatrate strap typically). If you plan to use this for strength training and rowing then don't expect it to output anything that useful other then keeping time. I've been using this along with the polar chest strap (considered very accurate) and the garmin is off by a lot most of the time. I don't care much because I've been working out for long enough now that I can tell what my heart rate is at and how hard I've pushed myself without the watch but it is annoying when I can't talk because my heart rate is so high, the chest strap says around 160 bpm, and the garmin watch shows 98 bpm. Overall I like it out of all the products out there and would have bought it again. When buying any fitness watch just understand the technological limitations with how they determine heart rate at the wrist using optical sensors and you'll be happy with your choice. Bottom line is that I find that having it keeps me in a mentality that I need to constantly be active which is good when I sit at my desk most of the day..

I was a fan of the Microsoft Band 2. After returning 3 of them because of busted bands, I had to find something different. All other devices, seemed to big and bulky, including the VivoActive HR. It is what all the marketing says it is. Two things that I can share. 1: The screen is not a bright as depicted in all the marketing material you'll see. Even with backlight adjustment, it's not as bright as you would think. Having said that, I don't have any problem seeing it, other than while running at night for some reason. 2: The battery life is amazing. Two weeks on a single charge, with a handful of various activities utilizing the GPS.

I've been told that I'm a gear freak, and I'm sure I fit that definition somewhere close to it, but I do enjoy trying out wearable technology when it comes to fitness tracking activity. And believe me, I've tried a lot of them; Polar, Garmin, TomTom, Samsung, and Fitbit - but the one that is definitely a keeper is the Garmin Vivoactive HR. I run roughly about 25-35 miles a week and do about 3 hours worth of indoor rowing - yes, this watch tracks your rowing stroke rate and heart rate, but there are better metrics that can be picked up on a smartphone app that's connected to the power meter on a rower via Bluetooth. But enough of that side note... this is a great GPS sportswatch that I really underestimated when I first tried it. It has a dated design and shape to it, but it's incredibly comfortable with its compliant band and light weight. I wasn't much into the touch screen features of this watch at first, but it really grew on me and it's very easy to use during a run. I've had some accidental music playback get activated with a misintended swipe of the watch face and my nearby phone, but that can be remedied with a proper setup. As for Garmin's proprietary heart rate sensor built-in to the watch? It's pretty darn accurate compared to my Wahoo TICKR X chest strap, and if you wanted to, the Vivoactive HR can also pick up the TICKR X via Bluetooth if you wanted to. Additionally, if you have a Garmin Edge or similar Bluetooth enabled cycling computer, the Vivoactive HR can broadcast your heart rate to that device as well. It's very, very useful, in my opinion, as I tend to train within heart rate zones - I can't believe I went without this great training tool for so long! The Vivoactive HR makes this all too easy, and coupled with the Garmin Connect app and website, there's a wealth of training data available to you. And yes, it'll push your data to your TrainingPeaks account as well. There are other trackable cardio events as well, such as Stand Up Paddleboarding, Skiing, Cycling, Indoor Cycling, or customizable metrics for various cardio workouts, but the Swimming has me a bit puzzled as it won't do open watch GPS swim tracking and will only track your stroke and lap counts on an indoor pool. Hmm.. scratching my head there as it can be done on the Garmin Fenix. Nonetheless, if you're not worried about the dated look of this small, rectangular watch on your wrist and are all about capturing your workout metrics in this very comfortable wearable tech, then this is the way to go. The battery life, by the way, is phenomenal and battery life is a huge pet peeve for me. I can easily go into my fifth day without charging, even after putting in three 5k or or a pair of 5k and one 10k run during those days, with an 8 second backlight each time I utilize it and with smartphone notifications turned off. Not bad at all! Remember, however, to maximize battery life, the always on screen may appear dim while indoors, and the use of the auto-backlight feature (while turning your wrist toward you to look at the watchface) will help, it is absolutely crystal clear in daylight conditions. Hard to ask for much more beyond that and it's a worthwhile purchase.

I have been quite pleased with this product. I read lots of reviews prior to purchase, the only major gripe from others has been screen brightness. It comes out of the box with a very conservative brightness setting, just change it to the highest setting, no longer a problem. The battery life is around a week for me, I find that to be pretty impressive. My only minor complaint is that the heart rate is slow to respond, but I knew that before I bought it. I would give it 4.6 stars if I could.

I am an active lady in her 30s who wanted a multisport watch with heart rate monitoring that would also be functional for non-exercise wear -- and I am very very happy with this watch. PROS: I think all the GPS-guided monitoring works great There are a lot of supported sports Garmin Connect (the app for the watch) syncs automatically with my calorie tracking on MyFitnessPal I really like that it auto-adjusts the step count for my daily step patterns -- keeps the goal attainable but not static Battery life is about one week for me, even though I use the GPS at least an hour a day and wear it the rest of my waking hours. MILD CONS: The non-GPS-guided monitoring ("run indoor" specifically) is about 15 sec/mile off. It therefore slightly affects my exercise and pace records in Garmin Connect... I don't highly value exact exercise records but, if I did, this would be an issue. There is no generic exercise recording, which would be nice to wear during classes at the gym, etc. It's not a gorgeous piece of jewelry! But I still wear it every day. It has to be fairly snug to get good heart rate monitoring (I checked it against my carotid pulse a lot during the first week I got it). Unfortunately, that means I don't comfortably sleep in it and miss out on sleep tracking. Again, not a deal breaker.

Finally an affordable Fitness Watch that can count kayak strokes. My rate of power strokes is between 38 & 41 strokes per minute. The vivoactive HR has been spot on. It's also the only watch that accurately gets my floors climbed correctly. I've tried fitbit(s), Samsung Gear Fit 2, Tom Tom's &, Polar & none ever got floors climbed right. it also has great battery life. it's a little on the large but looks great. I switched to red band & have received complements on its style. the Garmin Connect software is excellent. Plus, tons of available widgets & app's makes this extremely easy to customize.

I won't repeat points that others have stated nor give you the specifications since its already well covered, so I'll just reflect on my personal use. This smart watch replaced my current running watch. This watch does provide all of the measurements of my previous one but it does much more! Its easy to use with the touch screen. Very personalizable. The connect app has a ton of colorful information to analyze. It seem a little big but its not cumbersome. The brightness of the screen seems lower than my previous one. I would recommend getting a screen protector, since it is not gorilla glass rated. I wear mine with the face on the inside of my wrist as I have done with the previous one. I just had it a few weeks, but if anything negative occurs I'll edit my post. For the Black Friday cost savings price, it can't be beaten in the cost/features analysis in comparison to other smart watches.

I spent some time looking at the latest Garmin watches when it finally came time to replace my 301. I like the easy to read display. It's not too bulky as the Fenix is for my small wrist. I like that it's waterproof. I do wish that it was compatible with the specialized chest HR monitors for training data collection and could include tri transition, but the trade off for smaller size and half the price made this the best choice for me. I've been very pleased with battery life.

The one that I actually purchased would not sync so Geek Squad had to get another one from the shelf. Tracks pretty well, especially with GPS active. Battery life is good for multiple days. I would recommend downloading the manual as it does not come with the watch, makes it easier to understand how to work the watch. App to connect is also pretty easy. Only bad thing is it will not count your steps if you are pushing or pulling an object, lost a few thousand steps that day.

I have been using activity trackers for several years now. This is the best one to date by far. It may look big on your wrist if you are small but is loaded with features. The Garmin mobile app is still not the best but does do the job, Use the built in calibration feature for more accurate readings. The GPS works excellent if you do not want to carry your phone. If you use Strava it will automatically upload your data for you. The ability to change watch faces is nice as well as options for more widgets. This is a flexible unit with quick recharge and longer battery life than previous models.

The vivoactive HR smartwatch is absolutely incredible. Gives me all the information that I could ever need in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The golf GPS function works great and being waterproof is an added bonus. I really like the heart rate monitor on the watch as it gives you your current heart rate and your average heart rate for that day. It syncs easily, quickly and regularly in the background with my phone. The battery life is also unbelievable if you aren't using the GPS function. I recommend this product highly. It would get 6 stars if that were an available ranking.

I was so excited to get my new Garmin watch. Coming from an original pebble I had some pretty big expectations. I must say this watch seems like it has the potential to do a lot but is incredibly disappointing. I like to golf and was pretty excited to have that built into the watch but I am not going to be able to last long enough to get out and play a round with it. I'll be returning it a couple days after I bought it. To start, the screen is underwhelming. My 1st edition pebble has better contrast and lighting. This is just too dim and I have the backlight as bright as it gets. The contrast seems washed out and the quality just isn't there. In bright light it's great, I had to tilt it a certain way but when it's in the right spot it looks awesome. Since this is ultimately a watch first and it's hard to see most of the time that's a big negative for me though. Second is the comfort. The watch is not comfortable on my wrist. The heart rate monitor protrudes from the watch, putting pressure on the area its pressing against on my wrist. Think of it like a rock in your shoe. I also had some discomfort where the strap attaches to the watch face on the outside of my wrist. The gps is okay. I had some issues with it telling me to go outside for accurate info. I was asking it for weather updates when this happened, so hopefully you don't need that when it's raining, or a tornado is on the way or something. The heart rate monitor is good but I noticed it was still recording a heart beat when I took the watch off. Quirky. I'm sure as time goes on and the Garmin team fixes bugs this will be a cool little watch. Right now for me it's just not worth the price tag and needs some work. That's okay though. Some products just aren't right for some people. This one is not meant for me unfortunately.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the vívoactive HR. We’re sorry to hear the watch wasn’t a great fit for you. We’d like to address some of the concerns you have about the device. The device brightness can be adjusted in the menu. The screen is a transflective MIP (memory in pixel) display which allows it to see better outdoors. The device has settings for both indoor and outdoor activities, outdoor activities require outdoor GPS signal to acquire. If you’re getting results on the optical heart rate sensor that is because the sensor uses LED lights to illuminate through your skin to measure changes in light as a result in blood flow through your vessels and capillaries. If it’s not on a wrist it can detect changes it light and misinterpret it as a pulse. Again, we thank you for your time to write a review on our products. We’d love restore your faith in our brand, if you have questions in the future please reach out to our product support at:
