Tracker is great. Many features that improved workouts. App is good. It syncs with tracker. However, the two don't work well together. Tracker has features not supported by the app. The app has features not supported by the tracker. This leads to frustration.

The watch was uncomfortable to wear and was not user friendly. It had almost no back lighting so was very difficult to read. Very disappointed in this product after thinking I was getting a top quality product.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. The features on the watch are great but the brightness on the screen is too dim. We did return the product.

    Cadillac of Current Fitness Watches

I purchased this watch before its release and have had it for a little over 3 months now. It is positively loaded with options, and the Connect store doubles that. I am a very active person and I had to disable a bunch of the features, though it is nice you can do so. I really like the color screen and customization options. For a fitness-only watch, this blows the Apple Watch out of the water (figuratively and literally - the Apple Watch isn't waterproof). The amount of fitness data both on the watch and viewable via the Garmin phone app is insane. The only cons I have are that it is bulky and the all-black body (you can get color bands) needs to have some more colorful options. The bulk isn't an issue for every day wear, but I can't wear it when I sleep. Pros: amazing amount of features, user friendly, extremely customizable, data overload, durable, waterproof, a true fitness wearable. Cons: Not 'sexy' (the original vivoactive looked way better), a little bulky, no watch body color options, may be a little large for smaller wrists.

Worked great for the first three months, absolutely loved it, accurate HR tracking, great data display and love the app interface...then on my half marathon did not function well, did not track heart rate and cut out an entire section of the run. I asked the company and I was told to turn it off and restart before every tracking event, upgrade the software (did that, no change). Now turning it off/on every time isn't working and it is only 9 months old. waste of money. no help from Garmin. Disappointed.

It didn't track sleep like it claimed it does. I took it off in the middle of the night and it didn't know that it was on the night stand all night. Also HR was not accurate either.

Garmin Activity Trackers will monitor your sleep time, according to the bed time and wake time set on your profile. The sleep time can also be edited, via the Garmin Connect Mobile app under the sleep data for the date you wish to modify. The unit will take your sleep time, as programmed, worn or not worn. I previously had a Fitbit Charge HR, and it was very unobtrusive to wear. I liked the fit and feel of it and the sleep tracking, but I found that the step count seemed inconsistent, the HR was often all over the place, I'd forget it was on doing the dishes or swimming, there were intermittent/frequent sync problems, and I was charging it every three days to avoid the risk of losing data on the fourth day when the battery died. So I spent a lot of time researching many of the competing fitness trackers and I found that nothing really met my needs...EXCEPT for this vivoactive HR. I ordered from Best Buy this week and it arrived yesterday. (Super fast!) My initial impressions: PROS + Easy to sync and set up out of the box. + I liked that there were settings to control right on the tracker (no need to change them on your phone/computer app). + I like all the data you can see on the tracker that is easy to navigate to when you get used to how the menus work (takes about 10 minutes). I prefer the more complicated data view vs the simple one that fitbit offers. (I'm an engineer so it's a personal taste thing.) + I like the Android app and it connects with MyFitnessPal to show me my calories right on the app! (You still have to log food through mfp, but it gives me one stop of seeing my burn.) + The backlight didn't automatically come on while I was in bed and wake me up with the brightness. (The Charge HR did that on occaision.) OBSERVATIONS = I've never had a smart watch before, but getting the notifications is interesting. I'm not sure if I like how it's presented yet. CONS - The backlight seems dim (even on brighter settings) but I accept this because it promotes battery life. - It's big on my female wrist (and I have big wrists for a woman). It's borderline uncomfortable for me initially but hopefully I get used to it. If I don't wear it tight, it uncomfortably slides down to hit my wrist bone (and hurts!) and if I go one more setting tighter, it feels too tight. So far I'm pleased with my purchase, but I think the size or maybe just the shape (the screen and controls are almost as wide as my wrist) holds it back from being perfect for me.

The product has terrible range you have to have your phone within 10' of yourself to connect. My Fitbit had far better range 20-30' which made it far more useful l.

Thank you for taking the time to review the vívoactive HR. We are sorry to see that you are having trouble with the display on the device. If you have not done so already, we recommend updating the device to the latest software version. More options for controlling the backlight level were added in a recent software update. The device now has the option to select a 1-9 backlight level setting when the device is being used in a low light environment. Thank you again for your review. -JFH Garmin

The watch is very hard to see in dark settings. The step counter continues to count up even when sitting still. The calorie counter shows 700+ burned in the morning after not even wearing the watch all night. Heart rate monitor was consistently low when compared to other devices. Expected better from Garmin for $250.

There was an update addressing the back light settings, other enhancements were also added. You can download the latest version with Garmin Express ( www.garmin.com/express ). Once the download and installation are complete, you can change the settings by following the steps found in the manual at: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivoactivehr/EN-US/GUID-24A772E9-96DD-4B65-AC8E-42853AA2C676.html In additiona, the vívoactive HR uses Firstbeat's algorithm to get a more accurate calorie computation when a heart rate monitor is used with a device. This algorithm uses heart rate and the user profile to calculate the calorie readings. If the data seems incorrect, after the update, feel free to contact our support team ( www.garmin.com/support ) to report the issue. Best regards. ~QKO Garmin

I did a lot of research before choosing this device. While I liked my Fitbit One, I notoriously misplaced it, so I knew that I needed to get something else. I had minimum specs: 1) waterproof (I like the beach!) 2) GPS (I'm very short, and no device properly captures my distances based on my stride length) 3) heart rate monitor (calorie burn seems more correct with HRM) I had tried a Microsoft Band, but frankly it was a beast. I also looked at the Fitbit Surge, but it was a different kind of beast. Enter the Vivoactive HR, which I pre-ordered. So far, it has fulfilled all of my minimum requirements quite well, AND it weighs less than my Pebble Time. I'm looking forward to using it during my next race.
