    So far so good

Two days in it is doing what I wanted. Didn't want another watch type device like the Surge, Vivoactive or Blaze because I have a nice one for work and a forerunner for exercise. But wanted to track activity, sleep and resting heart rate. Activity tracking: so far steps, stairs, intensity minutes seem good enough. I have read enough reviews to know none are perfect so just looking for in the ball park. Three days in I am happy with these features on this device. Battery life looks like a few days depending on checking it an using it, I have charged it once, it took an hour and a half and it is still at 50%. Probably pretty good because I am checking it all the time since it is new to me. Sleep: going to sleep and waking up is accurate so far. I really like deep vs light sleep with movement measures. I thought I was tossing and turning more than I do but happy to see the actual stats. I can't say if it is accurate because I have nothing to compare it to. But other reviews (I have read many, many on other sites on many devices) indicate I can be confident in the data. So far this is my favorite feature, that I acknowledge I could have gotten on a cheaper device. Heart rate: so far seems good enough. I see some spikes, also as reported by others sampling isn't as often as other devices probably to preserve battery. But it is enough for me to get trends and averages and seems accurate enough given my experience with a chest strap. No device gets great ratings here so I am happy so far and expect either firmware updates or new versions in out years to make it better. I know it won't work well for interval training or activities with sudden acceleration or deceleration, but I have a heart strap and forerunner for that. None of the wrist based devices are good at this yet either. Things I would like to see them improve: Screen is a little dim for me in low light, on the other hand it is discrete at work so I can live with it. Comfort and fit is ok, will see how this is after a few weeks or months. Screen is plastic and likely will scuff over time, should be something harder.

I think if you're looking for a fitness tracker/smart watch this is one kinda covers all your bases. I love the heart rate monitor and seeing my distance and steps. I haven't been to the gym with it yet to see how that works. I like that I can link it up with MyFitnessPal for calories consumed. I think the steps are not very accurate because I've literally been sleeping in bed for hours and it says that I've walked 50 steps. So that's the only downside I see at this point. I don't wear a watch and never have so it took me some time to get used to it but now after a few weeks it's not bad at all. It's easily adjustable, just like a regular watch. I love that I can play my phone music from this watch and even in the shower I can skip the songs if I want. It has a phone tracker option so if I can't find my phone I can press a button and it will make my phone ring and light up. I love the silent (vibrate) alarm in the mornings. All around this is definitely the best tracker out there right now and you can't be the price for all that you get!

Thank you so much for your positive review. We're thrilled that you love your vívosmart HR, but wanted to take a moment to address the step accuracy concern that you mentioned. Garmin Activity Trackers are designed to track repetitive walking motion as steps. Occasionally certain movements may mimic a similar motion and cause these devices to accumulate a few steps. This could include:

      - Driving a vehicle (usually due to rough terrain)
      - Taking a shower
      - A restless night of sleep
      - Brushing your teeth

Your overall daily step trends and goals should not be significantly affected by these extra counted steps. If you have any additional questions, please contact Garmin Customer Care at j.mp/GRMNSupport and we'd be happy to assist you. Again, thank you so much for providing us with your feedback. So far in just a few weeks there have been four software updates which have corrected many of the 1st issues. Heart rate seems to be very accurate. Stairs seem to be a hit or miss. Intensity minutes are good for workouts and are also accurate. The app used for mine is IOS and after an update works well. Over all very happy with the performance and the key fact it is waterproof.

The device is great for tacking activities. It wonderful if you are water sports person, there is no need to remove it when you swim or dive. You can program it to track different fitness activities. It will remind you if you are idle to long, there is a move alert. it also can track your sleeping as well. I also like the software that works with my Smart phone and laptop.

Appearance and fit - the head unit is a little bulky for my taste but I'm use to not wearing anything on my wrist. Like most other complaints the "large" band is very small. I have a only 4 slots left on the band when wearing comfortably. It also makes it tougher to put on. I would definetly prefer extra large. Function - first the most recent firmware update fix two issues I had. Multiple workout functions and the ability to control music during work outs. The function is play pause and song back and forward. No volume. That is ok by me. My step count is accurate but my miles on the treadmill are over stated by about 15%. I have not tried to custom calibrate yet. I find the HR function accurate in workout mode compared to my Garmin edge 1000 but slower to react. I haven't yet figured out exactly what the HR rate is in normal mode. I think it is some kind of average but I need to research more. I turned off the smart notifications because every email and text popped up. Again I need to research if it can be customized. It syncs up with Garmin connect which I was already using. It will also syn with strava if you have that set up which I do. I wish it would sync with my Withering scale but not yet. Very happy with it. And I am also wanted water proof for swimming which it is but I have not tested yet.

I purchased this model after researching it against several big name competitors. The distinguishing features of the Garmin really shine. The phone notifications are something that I use everyday and work very well. There are many cases where I need to keep my Galaxy S6 silenced, and it's not always easy to feel it vibrate. The Garmin unobtrusively notifies me, and the ability to read the messages or notifications works. The weather notifications are handy, as is the music controls. The step counter and heart rate monitor are solid, and their accuracy is suited to my needs.

It's not as expensive as Fitbit, is waterproof, and seems durable. Works great for what I need now, steps, miles walked, and I especially wanted the heart rate feature. Stair climbing doesn't seem accurate, but it may be due to climbing stairs too slowly to register. Love the time and date feature which is useful at work and anywhere.

I was looking for a fitness tracker that I could wear while swimming and this was one of the only ones I could find that also had a built in heart monitor. If tight it works just fine in the water (the heart monitor) and I am very pleased. With the heart monitor on I am averaging 5-6 days between charges and it only takes about 45 minutes to get a full charge from my computer.

I researched all the fitness bands and even wore a Fitbit for a week before deciding on this one. I liked that it is waterproof has a buckled band, and the watch function stays on all the time. I also wanted a heart rate monitor, something that I quickly discovered is, as all the reviews had said, not very accurate and really only good to measure a resting heart rate. The cons, in my opinion, are that I had to spend a lot of time adjusting my stride setting in the software until it consistently measured my distance accurately against a measure distance, even though the ultimate stride setting is much longer than my actual stride, but now that I have it set, it measures accurately. I also don't like the fact that it measures a lap as 1 mile (or 1 km) and you can't change that setting, so my actual laps and those reported in the software, don't match. These, of course, are minor irritants, but you'd think that they would be easy enough to address in a software update.

Thank you very much for the four-star review. We're happy you're enjoying the vívosmart HR and have taken the time to address some of your concerns.

To clarify, the vívosmart HR is not 100% water-proof. Since terms like "water-proof" and "water-resistant" can be confusing and interpreted in different ways, Garmin has manufactured devices with standardized water ratings. The vívosmart HR has a water resistance rating of 5 ATM. A description of these ratings as well as suitable and unsuitable activities for these devices can be found at: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/waterrating

Unfortunately at this time there is not a way to edit the lap distance manually. If you'd like to see this feature added, please consider submitting a suggestion to http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/ for review by our developers.

Bought it for $100. I was replacing an old vivo watch. It’s supposed to measure heart rate as well- though I don’t wear it to tight and so it’s unlikely to get a true reading. It measures stairs- but again since i don’t wear it too tight it doesn’t always read them. It still has an intensity bar(s), which I is way better now because you get a vibration when you have been inactive and tells you “move.” It has the pedometer, stairs, calories, distance, and heart rate - when on this screen you can access your daily averages. When you press down the side bar, you can change several settings like record either run/walk/cardio/other; set to “do not disturb,” “alarm,” and others like Bluetooth, sync, save files but I have not tested how to use those I miss how the watch lace didn’t show all the loop holes. Charging the watch via laptop is a little inconvenient but overall not bad.

First off, this is one of the few that are truly waterproof. That's why I have not bought other brands such as fitbit. To my knowledge they didn't make any waterproof ones at the time I purchased this one. Love the added heart rate feature because it more accurately helps track calories burned. I don't like the 10 second lag it has sometimes when reading your heart rate. Battery last several days depending on how active you are and how much you use other features on it like hooking it up to your bluetooth and receiving messages and controlling music. So far I have not had any problems with it. I have got scratches on it, but 99.9% of them wipe off. It's much more durable than there ones made with LED pixels. I would buy again.

I have had my Vivosmart +hr for a week now and love it. I had a previous fitness tracker, but it did not capture heart rate or stairs climbed so those added features are wonderful. The fitness band is comfortable to wear, I really like that it captures my heart rate in real time. It is very user friendly, easy to read the display, and very easy to connect to my phone through the garmin app. I would definitely recommend this product!

I purchased this tracker to replace my Fitbit charge HR which broke. This charger is much better as a hardware - waterproof, always on display, sofisticated notifications like e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, messages and calls etc. You can also use it to find your phone or to start/stop your music. Overall it is a much better device than the Fitbit charge HR. But the software is not as good. It is a little bit cluttered and not as user friendly. This doesn't bother me as I am pretty techie, but for other people it can be a deal breaker.

I love this product. It has helped me lose weight by tracking my steps and striving to hit the goal. The app increases the goal as you hit it. I also have the garmin index scale and it puts all of your weight stats into your app. The app is easy to use, the only problem I've had is I can't figure out how to make it track my intensity minutes. It stays at 0 all the time even if I enter a timed activity. I had no problem setting any of it up and I am no whiz at that time of thing. The stair counter is off as well. Sometimes it won't count my stairs at all, but overall it's great. Love having the watch, also love the phone and text messages being sent to the watch. It being waterproof to 50 M was definitely what originally made me pick this over a fitbit which is only splash proof. I did take a shower with this on to test it and it was fine.

Thank you for your feedback! We’re happy to hear that you love your vívosmart HR and that it helps you with your weight loss goals. The following FAQ explains the Intensity Minutes feature: http://bit.ly/1ltyZnl . It’s important to remember that you must participate in at least 10 consecutive minutes of moderately intensive activity (e.g. a brisk walk) for it to count toward your weekly goal.
With regard to your step/stair inaccuracies, the vivosmart HR has a built-in barometer that measure changes in elevation as stairs are climbed. The device will need to measure at least 10 feet of elevation change in order to display floors climbed. The barometer is located on the back of the device near the charging contacts. These small holes help the device accurately detect elevation change. If these small holes become obstructed, the performance of the barometer may become erratic when it comes to reporting the number of floors climbed. If you suspect that this is the case with your device, try using canned air to clear any obstructions or rinse the device with water and allow it to air dry before putting it back on.

This is my first fitness tracker and I was choosing between this and the Fit Bit charge 2 and Samsung Gear fit pro both which weren't water resistant. Garmin was and that was important to me. Battery last long not 5 days but long enough, interface is simple to use and app is Great. One thing I would like is to lock the screen so it doesn't move with slightest of touches, maybe it has it but haven't really checked. Either way great product I'm satisfied.
