My requirements: a watch that is durable enough to handle the heat, sweat and activity of my volunteer work. I need notifications more than anything, not fitness tracking though I could lose a few elbees. It does motivate me to move more, and that's enough for me.
I tried the Samsung Galaxy Active and returned it after a day. I worried about the unprotected face and it wouldn't send me notifications.
I've had Garmins in the past and they are solid; nothing has changed, Garmin is fantastic.
This watch paired up seamlessly with my Android phone. The set up was not intrusive, very simple, and I get all the notifications I want and can block any that I don't.
It's sturdy, looks nice and I love it. The resolution of the screen concerned me at first because the Samsung is so bright and clear, but one minute outside and I forgot about it. It can handle the brightest of sunlight and I live in Arizona!
And the battery life is good enough for me and probably most. It lasted five days with heavy notification use.
When I do go out hiking once it cools off here, I have a decent Garmin smartwatch to track and show me the way. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I really enjoy the Garmin products and this is my second watch from them. The notifications are easy to read, and the tracking I am happy with. The stairs are usually off, but as I really only care about the step tracking, that's fine with me. Overall, I am happy with this. I cannot wait for Garmin to add more things to their app store so that I can add things to the watch. The Garmin pay still leaves quit a bit to be desired. The customization of watch faces are a plus though.

The watch was very light on the wrist, and the battery life was fantastic, that being said the screen was not bright enough and the screen quality was very poor. Returned it.

I had open heart surgery and this keeps records of my exercise as well as monitoring my heart rate alerting my if it gets too fast. The GPS feature is also great for monitoring my walks and plotting the course I walk making it easy to stay up to date with information to share with my physician.

So I bought this watch since I was trying my first triathalon. I like the sleek design of the watch and has been great for everything I have used it for. The watch is very accurate when comparing it to a different app on my phone when it comes to my running/cycling. Overall the watch has just been great.

Excellent!!!
I used to have the Samsung Galaxy Watch. However, it was not compatible with my Garmin Edge 530. Was unable to incorporate my steps into my Garmin connect.. What's nice about the Garmin watch. Very easy to setup. Light on the wrist. And is much simpler

I just to have the previous version, but this watch has a huge different because it has a better features and you can use in the swimming pool. Also you can buy accesories to change the color of the wrist band and case protection for the watch in less than 6 usd. Other nice features is you can track your stress level.

I enjoy my Garmin Vivioactive 3. It looks good and functions well. I thought that the round face would make it look more like a traditional watch, so I focused on watches that were round. I prefer the round look, but it makes it harder to read messages than if I had chosen a rectangular or square watch. However, I use the watch mostly to let me know I have a message and then I read it on my phone. The watch has many features I do not use so I will not review all those. The strengths of the watch would be it looks good, meets my functionality expectations, it was priced right, battery life is good (6 days) and comes from a reputable company. Weakness would that there is a slight delay from touching the face until it responds sometimes. This mostly happens when I am clearing messages.

This watch is great. Battery life goes for days. Watch faces are customizable and plenty to choose from. Seamless integration with my Android phone. Seems very accurate for tracking steps, sleep, heart rate, and general stress. Very happy with purchase.

Battery life is excellent and the activity tracking is spot on. The display is easily readable in bright sunlight but is low res which is fine for what it does. Hi-res amoled is nice to look at but difficult to read in bright sun and drains the battery.

With this watch hitting the sub$250 price point... The combination of the software with Garmin Connect plus GPS capabilities and multi-function activity tracking - no better value. I've used many generations of Garmin products, Fitbit and Microsoft Band (previously) and for comfort and functionality - this is it!

This is my first Garmin watch, I put away my Fitbit Charge and switched to this watch because it supports so many more functions including Garmin Golf which my friend has and intrigued me enough to get this one. What I don't like is that you have to start up to Garmin app on your smartphone for you to get the weather resynched to the watch. Maybe there is an auto sync function I haven't found yet, but the sync works, so I can get used to that. Anyway, the watch is extremely comfortable. If you have a wide wrist, the band might be too small for you, it is just big enough for me, and I am not a big guy. So as a forewarning you might need to purchase a longer band right away. Lastly, the screen is readable but could be brighter by default. Reviews say that if you turn up the brightness too high, it will drain the battery much faster. Anyway, great watch for the $129.95 that I paid.

Got this to replace my Fitbit and I could not have been happier. It's a great little watch, does everything I want it to do (it has a lot of activity tracking options), and links with my Garmin gear that I use for my biking.
The slide on the side is almost useless to me, I'm sure other's would use it, but swiping up and down on the screen is a lot easier than trying to hit the slider just right (seriously, it's almost like it needs to be coddled before it starts working...).
If I had any complaint it would be in the battery. It seems not to last as long as advertised (usually around 4 days). But, I'm told that might have to do with the apps, widgets, and whatsits galore that I have running on it... but, why by a smartwatch if you aren't going to have that thing do everything you possibly can?

This is a great entry-level smartwatch. I paid less than $200 for it. The battery lasts for almost a week, depending on how much it is used. It paired very easily to my cellphone. The watch is also simple to use. I definitely recommend this watch to anyone thinking about purchasing one.

It is nothing like the sleek, beautiful photos. The watch band is extremely flimsy and cheap feeling. The screen is incredibly dull and grey - not the dark black with popping color as in the pictures. It actually looks like some of the first cell phones with screens that were way too bright and washed out.
It was such a disappointment in looks when I took it out of the box that I put it right back in and am returning it without even trying the functionality. For $300 and basically the same functionality of trackers that are 1/2 the price it should be as stylish looking as it is in the pictures. I paid extra so I wouldn't be wearing something that was obviously just a tracker and looked more like a nice watch. This is actually worse than a plain FitBit or other tracker because it looks like an extremely cheap watch.
I've included a pic taken in a dark room so you can see how it glows a dull light grey. In light, it is almost unreadable. Very disappointed.

Hello Meghann, Thank you for posting a review of the vivoactive 3. We appreciate all feedback. We wanted to take an opportunity to address the concerns that you had about the screen on the device. The vívoactive 3 display features an enhanced reflective mode allowing the contrast and color saturation to be optimized for daytime use under real world outdoor lighting conditions. In low light or nighttime conditions, the built-in backlight right amount of illumination for adequate viewing. If desired, the backlight level can also be set manually. Under dim or nighttime conditions, there may be some reduced color saturation compared to sun-lit daytime use. Thanks again for posting a review. -JFH

This is my first smartwatch that isn't an Android Wear watch, and despite the initial adjustment period to a different interface, display style, and app/sync system, I have to say I am extremely impressed. Activity tracking is intuitive, comprehensive, and very easy to use, but my favorite aspect is the terrific display on the watch. All my previous watches have had AMOLED displays, so at first I thought the display looked a bit washed out. However, when you go outside (which is mainly where I count on my watch, on hikes and mountain bike rides), the display is absolutely brilliant and easy to read, even when wearing my polarized sunglasses. And I love that it is always on, so I can always see the details about my activity without needing to constantly flick my wrist or fiddle with the screen.

I got this primarily to get an idea of how many calories i was burning throughout the days and weeks. It is super light and the battery was better than the Apple Watch. I really enjoyed the sets function for weight lifting. never had to take it off to shower.

I have had the Garmin Vivoactive and was looking for a watch with heart rate monitoring and a little better day-to-day appearance. I am still learning about this watch, but so far am pleased. The changeable watch face and easy to read display is a step up from what I had. That said, when I've used it on runs, I have to charge it more frequently (every 2-3 days depending on mileage vs every 5-6 with my old watch).

Had been looking at smart watches for some time. Finally chose the Garmin Vivoactive 3 as it had all the features I wanted and needed . Works seamlessly with my iPhone and the battery life is lightyears ahead of Apple's. Very reasonably priced for the features, quality and easy set up.

The design alone is way better. The round face is a classic compared to the clunky square faces of the past.
