Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the 3.8 Cu. Ft. 13-Cycle Top-Loading Washer's quiet operation, large capacity, and ease of use as significant advantages. However, some users express concerns regarding the effectiveness of the wash and spin cycles, with clothes sometimes feeling insufficiently clean or remaining too wet after the wash. The machine's ability to maintain balance during operation is also a point of contention for some customers. While many appreciate its size and value for the price, improvements to the cleaning and spin performance are suggested.

Good washer for big loads
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It would be a great washer if it would stay balanced and you didnt have to adjust clothes on final spin.

Sounds like two gears are grinding into each other
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This machine is the noisiest thing I've ever owned. I'm not sure if it's broke or if this is the way it is supposed to be. I read that there is some initial noise but this is a grating noise that has not changed. I am going to have it looked into at the beginning of the year. It also leaves clothes far wetter than I would expect on a newer model machine.

Great Basic Washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned this washer for over a month now, and I really enjoy using it. I can choose exactly how much water I want to use for each load, and the water temperature, and the length of the cycle. My clothes come out nice and clean, nothing damaged or wound up in knots or anything, just a great basic washer. And really quiet. And, here's an example of how well it cleans: I got a bad stain on the knee of my favorite capri pants before I had this washer. At that time I was using a HE (high efficiency washer), and I forgot to pretreat the stain. It went through that HE washer twice and the stain was still there, so I thought it was, unfortunately, a permanent stain.. However -- after just one time in this new GE washer, the stain was completely gone!! My only regret is, this washer doesn't have a delicate cycle. So I went to wal-mart and got a couple of those mesh laundry bags you put delicates in before they go into the washer. Works for me. :)

Inexpensive washer but is it worth it?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your looking for a cheap washer that you can get immediately its ok, just ok. I read the reviews and hubby said the ones that stated it ate their clothing may not have loaded it correctly. Well I have been doing laundry for 35 yrs and today it ate up my daughters dress. My son was able to remove what is now a rag of a dress. Also the spin cycle does not do a good job at all. Takes almost twice as long to dry my clothes. My last washer had an extended spin cycle so now I spin the clothes an extra time or two. You can fit a lot in it and its super quiet. Would I buy it again...NO.. If it eats one more article of clothing it will be returned for a different washer.

Great Washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This washer is so quiet when it's washing, that I have to touch it to know that it's working! I love the extra large tub! Unfortunately, the spin cycle is rather noisy. I didn't want a front-load or a "water-saving" washer. This is a great washer for the price.

Great washer, easy to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just love this maching! Its your old fashion machine with modern touches added to it. I previously bought a non agitator one. It was aweful since you had to position clothes just so since it conserves water. Lid locked once machine starts and if you want to add a piece of clothing you had to wait forever for machine to unclock. I was so unhappy. I called Best Buy and customer service informed me I can return the washer within 30 days no question asked. Wow! I returned it and bought this machine! So easy to use. I love it! Thank you Best Buy!! Happy customer

They don't make washers like they used to!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My ancient Hotpoint dryer finally gave out so I bought this new GE washer and dryer set even though my Whirlpool washer was in perfect working condition. It was old as well so I decided probably should just buy the pair. This washer had so many rave reviews that I must admit I am VERY disappointed in it. Like apparently all the new washers coming out now, it doesn't actually wash clothes: it just intermittently "swishes" them around in short bursts and soaks for long periods. It's like hand washing clothes in a bathroom sink! For those of you who have this washer and think your clothes are clean, I believe you are mistaken. I wear dark pants and light blue uniform tees to work and they get very dirty. I can't tell how much actually comes out because when the lid is raised the washer stops so I really can't tell how dirty the water is, plus my work clothes get a mix of oil and aluminum stains that do not come out so I don't know how much this washer is actually leaving in them. I did test it out by washing white socks that had dirt, grass stains and some grass clippings, from mowing the lawn, on them and it got some of it out - but not much - and even most of the grass was still stuck on the socks! This morning I washed a load of my uniforms and used the "Heavy" setting and all it did was swish gently for about a minute then it just soaked the clothes the rest of the time then swished them a little more at the end of the cycle. This is NOT what I call washing clothes and certainly not for the price of the machine! If your clothes don't get very dirty - just around the house or office work, etc. - then this GE washer probably would work well for you. However, if you need a machine that ACTUALLY WASHES dirty clothes then I recommend you skip this GE and keep looking, If I can find another model, either GE or another brand, that actually washes clothes like washers used to, then I will ask Best Buy to trade this one out. Other than just "soaking and swishing" clothes, the washer is excellent. I would highly recommend it if it did actually wash because the very large stainless tub is very nice and holds a full/queen comforter with no problem and it has many wash options plus five water levels. Hope this helps others make the right choice.

NOT A SCRUBBER- NO CENTRIFUGAL FORCE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does not scrub, it is very gentle so cottons like towels, jeans, King size sheets, etc.. will come out wet. Powdered Tide does not always work well, even if you put hot water. I have to manually do the spin twice ...somewhat better. This is NOT an old GE kind of washer, face it the engineers have retired. This is a machine made by the new generation who doesn't know what scrub means. If you wash non cottons, then this is a great choice. I do not recommend for families with young babies and toddlers. All the clothes tends to be on the bottom after spinning, not on the walls of the basket as it should...centrifugal force! When I add the powered rinse the Tide(white soapnot dissolved) will come stuck to the walls and the clothes.

Posted .Dear Objective - this is Nancy at GE. We are very sorry to hear that your washer is not working properly. From what you are describing, it sounds like it is not rinsing and spinning properly. We recommend using the "Power Rinse" setting for most loads as this will provide a deep fill rinse. If your clothes are too wet; however, we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance.

Decent basic washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this washer as a replacement for the ancient Maytag that came with the house. Picked this model especially because of the large capacity. However, it has an unfortunate tendency to go off balance when washing things like comforters, therefore, you need to "babysit" it to make sure it doesn't beat itself to death. Other than that, it's OK.

Great wash machine, but kind of loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Is a great wash machine as far as washing clothes and effectiveness. Overall very happy. However whatever technology they used for machine to be quiet, it is not quiet as advertised. Don't think there is anything wrong with my machine as it works great. Just not quiet. After reading some reviews as to how some think it is quiet starting to think maybe something with the noise technology wrong, but doesn't bother me and have a three year warranty so not worried about it right now as it works great.

Great buy for the money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a ton of investigation before I bought this. I just need a basic washing machine without all the bells and whistles and this really fits the bill. It has mechanical controls which I like because it is less likely to break. I was extremely pleased by how silent this is.I had to close the door to the room next to my 20 year old washing machine because it was so loud. Now I can leave the door wide open and I am not even sure if it is still working!! It is great when it is hot out because closing the door makes it hot in the room. The tub is HUGE compared to my previous one! Now, I am always on various small levels. My past machine only had 3 water levels, small, medium and large. This has them and extra large and super with TEN gradations between each level! It also doesn't vibrate. I specifically chose this one because the tub has a lot of room to move that will absorb the clothes rotating. It washes all the clothes and wrings out the water from them well. I have only had it for a few weeks. So, I can't tell you about the reliability.

Good basic washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good washer, but have found if you have a heavy extra large load, it didn't finish spinning, and I had to spin it again. Luckily, I don't have many heavy extra large loads. Otherwise, it is a good basic washer. If you have very dirty, filthy loads, don't buy this washer. It has different wash settings, but they don't agitate strongly or for very long. My clothes are not that dirty so it quickly washes and I'm done.
