Customers consistently note the 3.8 Cu. Ft. 13-Cycle Top-Loading Washer's quiet operation, large capacity, and ease of use as significant advantages. However, some users express concerns regarding the effectiveness of the wash and spin cycles, with clothes sometimes feeling insufficiently clean or remaining too wet after the wash. The machine's ability to maintain balance during operation is also a point of contention for some customers. While many appreciate its size and value for the price, improvements to the cleaning and spin performance are suggested.

LOVE IT!!!! Has all the features we need to wash!

This machine had ALL of the features we needed to wash! Best of all... it can wash our King comforter w/o shaking the whole Laundry Room! Likewise, it can hold very large loads - I use to have to make MANY smaller loads just to get the "blue load" clean. So, it saves me time/money too. So far, it gets all of the clothes clean - no issues w/ stains not coming out, etc. Very happy w/ this purchase! I would definitely recommend it to everyone!

This machine has censors.

Do not place the clothes while the machine is in motion, it will off set the censors. If you do as other reviewers indicated the clothes will come out wet. It is not like the regular old machine. As was told by me, the machine is computerized and it will throw the censors off if you open and close the machine while in motion. Place all your clothes in at once, turn on the dial to the desire position, along with the soap powder and close. DO NOT OPEN THE MACHINE until it completely STOPS. If you do, you will off set the censors. This was told to me by GE Rep.

This washer beats the "HE" washers hands down!

2 HE-washers have quit on me in the past 5 years. I wasted about $2500.00 !
The washer tub holes had gotten plugged up with what appeared to be concrete. Yes, I did use regular detergent. Hard to break old habits. soon, my clothes were covered with a film, they didn't breathe, and did not smell clean.
I have only had this washer for a week. My clothes smell great. My son says his t-shirts breathe and he is not as hot while building stair-sets at a construction site. His rash is gone.
I love love love this huge washer!!!!

You Will Be Sorry if You Purchase this GE Washer

Ten months after purchasing this model GE washer it started making a loud banging noise about one out of three wash loads before it went into the final spin. To make a long story short....4 service calls later during a 3 month span and the GE tech replaced just about everything and still makes that loud banging noise. I called for service 2 days after the tech spent 3 hours installing numerous parts because the first wash load I did after he left, it started the loud banging again. They scheduled a new service call for 1-5 and he was a no show.
Other issues; Clothes get tangled in the agitator, rinse water level to low so close don't rinse well.
I WILL NEVER BUY ANY GE APPLIANCE AGAIN

Hello AZnana - this is Nancy at GE. We are very sorry to hear of the difficulty with your GE washer. This is not the outcome we would have expected to hear and we apologize for any inconvenience. Hopefully, you have scheduled another service call for the technician to correct the banging noise and clothes getting stuck under the agitator. Please note that the Power Rinse option will provide a deep fill rinse. I hope this helps! Thanks for providing your feedback! We hope to win your loyalty again in the future!

I haven't replaced my washing machine for years so I am so impressed with how efficient and quiet this unit runs! The choice of cycles are plenty for the amount of laundry I do weekly. Uses half the water as my old machine! I love it!!!

I'm not one to comment but it needs to be reiterated... This washer will eat your clothes.
First week it was the tie ribbon on my daughters shirt. It was washed by our old washer and never got sucked in so I wasn't concerned or it wasn't on my radar to not wash. all the same I figured it was my stupid fault and pulled it out. It was sucked up under the agitator and wrapped around a number of times. The next couple of washes the machine made some popping but stopped and machine seemed to be working fine... Yesterday washing my husbands scrubs it sucked up one of the ties and tore it off. I had to pull it out again and the machine seems to be working okay. But I can't keep sacrificing our clothes hoping they will come out in one piece or that the machine doesn't break. grrr
Have has less than 2m and will start the return process today.

Just received this washer yesterday & I believe it is a great washer for the price. Oh, & it arrived with a dent, so we are getting a 25$ Gift card per request. Thanks Best Buy.
The only reason I gave this product a 4 is because I wish it would splash & aggitate a little more, but I dont know if that really matters.
Will update after further use.

I love this washer. It may not have a beep signal when done, or a display that shows time remaining in the cycle, but this is everything you need without all the computer boards to break and lead to costly repairs. It is dependable Old School! Great value as well.

Thought I would buy an old school agitator washer and save some money. This washer was garbage. Did not agitate, soap did not suds, and did not clean simple caked on food particles from the clothes. When we exchanged the washer the delivery guy said he's seeing a lot of these washers being returned. And don't get me started on the return/exchange experience. It took an hour and a half. And when I mentioned to the customer service manager that I had been waiting for so long, she ignored me and walked away. If I can help it, I will never buy another thing from best buy.

Extraction: Bad new idea for washing
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was convinced by a sales associate that this way of washing clothes, water extraction, was the new wave of washing clothes which will put the old way out of business. I hope not. I had this machine for 2-1/2 years when it broke down, but that's not even my complaint about it. The machine apparently saves on water by using it in a different way than the usual way of agitating the clothes. This machine shoots water through the fabric, hence making the machine make a periodic wheezing sound in certain cycles. It performs no, if any, agitation. Then it spins so fast in order to help get as much water out of the clothes as possible. Unfortunately, this can permanently wrinkle the clothes, as well as force the lint left behind in the poor washing process to gather inside the wrinkle folds and become part of the fabric. I raise dogs and they grind dirt into their beds. The beds did NOT come clean after the most vigorous wash in this machine. In fact, more of their hair was left behind than with my other washing machines that agitated the clothes. And the ground-in dirt was further ground in by the fast spin. I usually preferred to hang my blankets, comforters and dog beds out to dry in order to save on gas and electricity for my dryer, but my gas and electric bill went up as I had to use the dryer to help get out the wrinkles (which didn't always work) and pull out the lint and fur balls that my old washers used to shoot down the drain. I also had to iron more of my clothes than ever before, which I hate to do, even the "permanent press" clothes. When I wash my clothes, I want them clean. They hardly smelled clean either, as I don't feel the auto sensors used enough water to thoroughly wash away the dirt. I wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone.

Seriously?

We bought this machine because it had analog features and the option to control our own water levels. We also liked that it was assembled in the USA. We are a budget conscious family with 3 kids and we needed low-tech easy maintenance. It was delivered last Sunday 6/24 by Best Buy and now, Friday 6/29 I have encountered a major issue that requires a service call from GE already. I have washed a total of maybe 6-8 loads thus far carefully following the directions in the manual. Today my child's twin fitted sheet got sucked under the agitator and is stuck. According to the GE website, this agitator can't be removed at home by the consumer and requires a technician. I am super dissapointed that for 500 bucks we got a machine that cannot even launder fitted sheets. Also the matching dryer seems to run very hot and the sensor never shuts off the dryer when clothes are dry. Best Buy did offer me an exchange because it was a very recent purchase and I don't see any other choice. I can't call a serviceman every time I have to wash my bedding!

Loud washer

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The product description states 'quiet operation' however this is very loud. I gave it a poor for that reason, for the same price I could have purchased one that did not make noise.
Best Buy promotes and promises delivery and installation but when mine was delivered the guys said 'Best Buy always says that but we are told we cannot install". I even bought the parts needed as thats what the website and customer service said I needed in order to have Best Buy install for me. POOR POOR SERVICE ON BEST BUY in addition to the product not working as the description sold.

Hello honest1 - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. We are sorry to hear of the difficulty that you have experienced with regard to your new GE washer. This is not the outcome that we would have expected to hear and we apologize for your inconvenience. We recommend to see if the shipping rod was removed from the washer. It would be sticking out the bottom of the right side of the washer. If this doesn't help, please contact GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. Thanks for providing your feedback!

I'm happy with how well this machine cleans my husband's work jeans! It's tough enough to handle those, and then use the 'gentle' cycle for the delicate wash. Works like a champ!

tears up your clothes

It cleans well. It has a good price. But man, this has torn up more clothes in the month I've had it than my previous washer did in 15 years! Anything with a string will have it ripped right out. if there is a thread loose, it will become tangled and pulled to several feet long. There is no gentle cycle and the cycle that's somewhat close still doesn't even come close to a gentle cycle.
If you are only washing jeans and towels....maybe regular t-shirts this machine would probably be fine. Anything else really doesn't fare well.

We've had 3 services calls on this thing just in the last year we've owned it. I guess this washer has some known issues (according to the repair man) where it breaks during the spin cycle. The drum comes lose from the weights and bangs around until you stop the washer. Once it breaks, you cannot use it at all until the repair man comes and hooks the weights back up and the service plan crew has those ridiculous 4-6 hour windows for time, so you've got to spend the day home from work just to wait for them.

I purchased this brand washer after my Frigidaire washer gave up after 15 long years. I was very excited in the beginning because the washer was very quiet and cleans clothes pretty good - no snags or rips on delicate clothes and crochet sweaters etc. I did not buy any extended warranty thinking this washer will last me long, a few years the most. Boy was I so wrong. Purchased this washer in Aug 2011 and washer broke Sept 2012. Yes, 1 month after the 12 month manufacturer's warranty. It costs $99.99 to have a technician just look at it PLUS $400+ to replace parts and labor. This washer gave no warning at all that something was wrong upto when it just stopped working in the middle of a wash. I only wash clothes 1x or 2x a week. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!

HATE IT!! DO NOT BUY!!

I've had this machine for 6 months and I hate it! After the first week I noticed oily yellow spots on my clothes after washing. I called GE who sent a technician out and said there was nothing wrong with the washer. I use liquid detergent and liquid softener which is blue so I know it didn't cause the yellow spots. I actually saw and felt "yellow oil" in the bottom of the tub. But of course it wasn't there when the tech came so he assumed it was "a vitamin E pill or something" left in the dirty laundry. Nice try but how about a faulty motor in washer? I still use the washer because GE won't replace it #even though it has a 1 yr warranty# but I still have yellow spots from time to time. So I have to rewash the clothes again focusing on getting the spots out. Another complaint is the washer doesn't always fill according to the size of the load. I will set it on extra large and it only fills half way, causing clothes to be extremely wrinkled and tearing up the fabric, leaving the clothes looking worn. By worn I mean the clothes look like they have been scrubbed with a brush, fuzzy and old.
