Replacement Dehumidifier

This dehumidifier replaces a similar dehumidifier that had a pump mechanism that failed in less than a year of operation. This replacement dehumidifier is operating just fine with a hose draining to a sump pump facility.

This was my second unit, the first one lasting only a few months before throwing the E6 error code of death. I only purchased the second one because the of the way GE's warranty works, which only pays what you paid for the first unit on a direct replacement. I had to contact GE today because my second unit has thrown the E6 code. This unit lasted about 11 months, so that was better than the first. However, the unit has gone up in price by $85 since I last purchased it, so I don't see myself purchasing it again. They scheduled a repair tech to come out this week, so fingers crossed that it will at least limp along a bit longer. I had a difficult time finding a dehumidifier that fit my needs for an unfinished basement that is only moderately heated in the winter, which is why I chose this one specifically, but I will begin searching for a replacement.

Great problem solver for humidity issues.

This works great. We have humidity issues in our basement and this is the first summer we have not had any concerns. It is easy to drain and not too loud. This is a great product.

Very easy to attach drain hose. Percentage read out at top of unit makes it easy to monitor humidity level. Brought down humidity in my basement from 68% to 45% in a matter of hours.

E6 error code after 75 days. Warranty is: GE makes you buy another unit of same or greater cost. Then you submit the purchase receipt to GE for reimbursement (6-8 weeks).
You pay to dispose of broken unit.
Buy a Danby instead. They last longer and have a better warranty and replacement process.

I bought this unit for my main level of my house and ending up returning a week later.
The humidity reading is way off. I had two other humidity readers next to it – both shows 60% humidity while the machine would show 40%. I even brought up my other unit from the basement – it also matched the other readers of 60% proving that it was way off.
I will say that you can straight up turn it on non-stop – it does pull the water from the air. Don’t use the eco mode – it heats the room. I wanted something to only kick on when the AC was running a lot during the summer. Running this unit in eco mode nonstop would remove the humidity but also heat the room, which would trigger my central air to run again, which would add humidity….
It is also loud and would sometimes make sputtering noises as it cycled through its processes.
On top of that, for $300, you would expect a pump for (my other unit that was $150 cheaper) came with one – kind of a let down this one did not.

When a dehumidifier is first installed, we recommend allowing at least 3-4 days to remove moisture from the room to maintain the desired dryness. This unit never performed well. The Smart dry feature never accurately sensed the humidity in the room, and you constantly had to adjust the setting in order to get the unit to operate. Now, in less than 4 months, the unit has failed. Best Buy will not stand behind the product, and GE will only replace it with another potentially defective unit, and only after you purchase said replacement with your own money and submit a so-called *Goodwill coupon" for reimbursement. I will not be purchasing another GE product ever, and I will have to reassess my relationship with Best Buy as well. Both Best Buy and GE have horrible customer service. I would give this unit, and GE negative stars if the review interface would allow it. As it is I rated it one star, and even that is far too generous.

We love this dehumidifier. Runs quietly and efficiently in our new home! Just what we were looking for. Great product for the money!
