    Great first VR consumer device

First, make sure you judge the device after wearing it (I believe you can try it at the store). This is because I find no review will do this technology justice. Now, here is what I have to say about it: I did try the google cardboard VR before and found it to be incredible what you can do with phones now a days. The Gear VR takes this concept a step further by making it more polished. Not only is the device much more comfortable and the response is faster, but the main difference is the quality of available games for this device. I think Samsung did a good job by partnering with Oculus after trying this device. Tested games: Kart VR: Sprint: This game is like a mario kart game where you are seated in the actual kart. It is incredible how different the game feel is. You can actually look around you to see who's next to you. I find myself looking the side mirrors to make sure no one is behind me! and to fire weapons at the others, you use the head tracking to point at them and then release the trigger. Its a lot of fun. The game does have an online mode but I have yet to see someone else go online in it. Hero Bound: You have a surveillance camera view of rooms in a dungeon and you move your character around to kill enemies and open chest boxes. Its like a dark themed zelda game. It gives another dimension to the game. I haven't played the game extensively yet but I am looking forward to it! What I didn't like about Gear VR is how you can see the pixels clearly (screen door effect) when you are watching videos and pictures. It is hard to ignore it then. But that's not everything that this device does. I recommend the Gear VR for anyone who would like to experience how VR gaming is. For watching movies and pictures, you're better off with a TV. Oh, and make sure you get a compatible game pad to really experience the cool games I listed above. While you could buy the original samsung game pad, there are others that are cheaper and still work. I used the ipega PG-9025 which has an identical layout to the samsung one.

Purchased this for my Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Set-up was easy and quick. Never tried the Gear VR Innovator Edition so I wouldn't know how that one worked or fit, but this model of the Gear VR is very comfortable. I removed the top band as it's not really necessary for the Gear VR to stay on your face. The lenses on the inside will sometimes fog up, but doesn't happen all the time. I think it has something to do with positioning it on your face correctly so that your breath doesn't rise up into the lenses. There's a good amount of content both free and paid. Even the ones that are paid have free demos so you can try them out before buying. Some apps need a controller which I did buy and will get to at the end of this review. The Gear VR has a cursor and back button on the right temple that you use to maneuver with in the menu or in some games. Most games say that a controller isn't necessary, but I find it easier with one anyway. The first time you try out the Gear VR you're in a whole new world. Some of the content looks a little pixelated, but it is new technology so it won't be perfect. I'm sure they'll be able to easily fix those in future updates. When I tried swimming with sharks, even though it looked fake, it scared the beegezus out of me. Same goes with some of the scary games. Sounds comes out of your phone, but you can control the volume on the right side of the Gear VR near the cursor. I recommend wearing earphones though because you get a better overall experience. Some reviews have their phones overheating and shutting down, but i haven't experienced that. Then again, I haven't used it more than 30 mins at a time so I can't fully say that it wouldn't do that. I wouldn't recommend using the Gear VR for more than 30 to 60 mins anyway as your eyes need to rest after being in the virtual world. As I mentioned earlier, most games don't require a controller, but it's much easier and better with one. Oculus Support only lists 3 controllers that are supported by the Gear VR. I purchased the MOGA Power Pro. It works great and easily connects to the Gear VR through bluetooth. Overall, I recommend the Gear VR if you have one of the supported phones. It's not one of the high end VRs that are coming out (Oculus and HTC), but for the price it's definitely worth it! You can easily purchase the cardboard goggles, but you probably won't have a lot of content. I think Samsung did good with their content and the Gear VR. Not quite 5 stars, but nothing is perfect.

Bought this for my daughters 13th birthday. She enjoys it and so does the adults. Watching Netflix now is next level. Straps are easily adjustable. Set up and tutorial was a breeze. You dont have to use your hands too much to navigate. 360 view all around. Works well with compatible phones. No issues. Charging is not required. (only your phone). Graphics are awesome. Games/shows are very realistic.

I had read numerous reviews from here, as well as other websites on this product. After a little hesitation, I purchased this product. Out of the box, other than the VR itself, there were two straps and a user manual. Setup was a breeze, and the downloads depend on your speeds at home for installation of the app and any updates to the VR. As for the VR itself, it's been nothing but a blast for myself, family and friends. Some apps involve more motion than others which may cause some motion sickness, but all in all it's been well worth the money spent. Yes, it's not an Rift but is not tethered like the rift, so now need for a high performance comouter, only a Samsung compatible phone (6+, Note 5) Positives: Price, entertainment value, untethered Negatives: App Price, touch pad, phone heats up during prolonged use. A few notes: Most apps cost money. Some a few bucks, others upwards of $10.00. Yes, there are free apps, and I would recommend playing the developer apps, as they are free and usually some of the most entertaining. Milk VR is Samsung's version of the Ocolus store, a must have. Recommendations: A good pair of headphones, swivel chair and controller. Headphones only enhance the overall experience. Swivel chair allows you to see the entire 360° field of view, seeing EVERYTHING going on. Finally, a good pairable controller is a must. If you spend more than 30 minutes on here playing games, you need a controller. I picked up the MOGA PRO for 49.99 from Amazon and it has increased the enjoyment/entertainment factor exponentially.

I love this product. The 360 experience is tons of fun.while not HD by any stretch, the modest cost makes this a great bargain. I have recommended it to everyone I talk to. One hitch...it only works with 3 upper echelon Samsung phones. If you have one of those three, get the VR.

It is a great product but i am waiting for a better quality experience and new apps. It has great features and a nice home screen. I love the netflix but its a hasle cleaning your phone and doing all the steps to just get it to work. Sometimes it lags with the software and the pixels are in the way and you cant walk to the item but its a average product overall andvit has a great price and track pad i would reccomend it to a friend but you get sick of it after about a week.

I was excited for the gear vr when I was told it was a free gift for purchasing a Samsung Galaxy phone. When I received it, I immediately was sucked in and had to hook it up. Which was quick. The phone clicks right into place. The front cover can be a bit of a pain but the VR can be used without it. Once it in you're ready to go... At the cost memory since I hadn't purchased a new micro SD card. You have to download the Oculus suite and of course a few apps to start with. But as soon as they were download I was off to new worlds.......for about a half hour before I was notified that the temperature of my phone was high and I should turn it off and let it cool. And that's sort of consistent as well. There isn't much i can do outside of taking it off to wait... And life with kids keeps me busy that I don't get caught up in the games or videos. Which, suffice to say, are limited... Hulu and Netflix are tops in my list. Then there's the fact that the price of apps for it are kinda high compared to the regular app or even the price of the Google cardboard apps. It is a new technology that is slowly reaching a cheaper means for good quality content. But it will be awhile still until then.

This offers a great VR experience, especially for the price. My siblings were astounded by it! I don't play it extremely often, but it's fun every now & then. Good job Samsung/Oculus for making a high quality yet budget-friendly VR device! I would definitely buy it again. One thing to consider if you wear glasses: Although it fits over my glasses, it's not very comfortable, especially after wearing it for more than a few minutes. There is a dial on top that lets you change the focus so you can leave your glasses off, but there is no way to focus each eye separately. (My prescriptions are close enough that it works okay without my glasses, but it could definitely be better...)

The device though not a new concept is a wonderful creation. The effects are quite exceptional and although it seems to be merely a holder for the device's programmed apps this 'holder' picks up on subtle movements from the user. I didn't enjoy the bulkiness of the device, it also seems to cause the battery/phone to hear remarkably fast, we can only make it approximately 17mins prior to it overheating... Far too short a time to appreciate a movie at which point the screen prompts resting the device.

Wow, what a neat VR item. Works well with Samsung 6 edge and also our Samsung edge 6 pluse. Only complaint would be , a few apps had to buffer causing breaks in Viewing. We wish there was more short world travel real places. Of anyone knows which apps that work best let us know , maybe I just haven't found the app treasure yet. Love the surfing one.

Wasn't really expecting much from the VR Gear, not at this price, but I was surprised. Wound up taking it to school, and it was, and still is, the hot item. Sometimes I can't even get to my phone since it is being used. The Note 5 fits comfortably in the VR, and is much lighter than I imagined. Once connected, the VR software/App is downloaded automatically, which allows you to go shopping for more. There are several free apps, with many of the paid apps being somewhat on the expensive side, though hopefully that will come down. Probably the greatest drawback is the overheating of the phone, requiring a cool-down of a few minutes. Overall, if you like flying with the Blue Angels or dodging sharks, try it. It isn't the cheapest thing on the market, but in my opinion, well worth it.

This is a great product, that being said we must remember that VR is new and it will only get better over time. This is a great product because of the ability to take it anywhere with you, unlike the more expensive models which you are connected with cables to you PC and not only that but you will definitely have to have a top notch graphics capable PC to run them on. Each time I put my VR glasses on it always seems to be more apps or videos content available to check out. The apps are great, check the free games out first before purchasing, but the games only run $3.00-$10.00 which is rather cheap. Netflix on VR is awesome! Please check out "Drop Dead", and AltSpace VR these are super cool.

    VR Hottest new toy

When I say HOT I mean your phone gets hot. We've used with both an S6 and S7 Edge. Both devices have heated up to the point where VR had warning to allow to cool down. All in all though it is a great toy and relaxing. We've used to play games, some require wireless controller (True Depth 3D BT Motion Wireless Bluetooth Gamepad for Android Smartphones, Cell Phones, Tablets and Devices). The action between VR, phone and controller is seamless. Non-controller required functions use the controls right on the VR unit, which are easy to use. The visuals are clear and concise. Apps are easy to downloaded, however if downloading something like The Box, which is interesting, but won't be using again, then it's best t uninstall from phone through app settings so you don't fill your phone up with non-essential apps. It would be nice to have a feature in the VR app to do this. Personally when I really want to relax away from the household I sit outside put on the VR and watch a movie with wireless headphones. The video aps (VR and Netflix) were easy to maneuver with lots of options to view and the theater space is great, watch from the moon, but make sure you don't get to comfortable and fall off the couch while watching Netflx. All in all I really really enjoy our VR

The Gear VR is an awesome piece of technology and gives a glimpse of what we have to look forward to in the future. Head tracking works extremely well. There are issues with the resolution, but it's limited by the screen of the phone. You will quickly get over it and tend not to notice the individual pixels after a couple minutes of use. There are also the overheating issues as well, but again you are limited by the phone. This may not be an issue with the S7 or newer devices. Overall it's a great toy and I can't wait for more apps and content to become available.

I was excited to get this product when it became available. The only issue I've had is with overheating issues when running certain high action or graphically demanding games. However this is more due to the phone being pushed pretty hard. ( I have a galaxy s 6 that I use) It will also drain your battery pretty quickly. But if you want to mess around with vr without spending a ton of cash this is the way to go.

Not too bad compared to the cost of buying an oculus rift. The phone does get pretty hot, which from what I've read, was an issue with the last model. The lens does fog up a bit and the apps available are minimal at the moment. I think with a little more time this thing will be great. Also I recommend purchasing a joystick.

The Gear VR is a phenomenal device. I love the the way it emerges me into a virtual world that is absolutely mindblowing! The only drawback is that my Galaxy S6 overheats too fast; after 15 minuets of use. Perhaps Oculus will come up with a cooling system that will allow me to use it foe an extended period of time.

Got the VR with my samsung s7 edge. First time using it and spent a couple of hours playing with it. Played the video games, video (go pro) and 360 videos. What a experience. Vey comfortable to wear and the focus adjust is a great feature. I also like the way you can view your own pictures and videos. Little warning your phone will get warm if you use for a while. Going to try the netflix in the next couple of weeks. Also,it would be great if they provided where you can buy a wireless controler.
