Amazing price while on sale. Hard to beat this laptop and the specs. I just wish the laptop was not so flimsy that it feels like I could break it just opening it.

The price of this laptop makes it a "budget" entry in gaming PCs, but that doesn't mean it's underpowered or has cheap components. Both the Intel i5 11400H CPU and the Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti GPU are highly rated in their respective classes and together they are a powerful combo in this PC. I ran benchmarking software on it and it scored above average for similarly equipped PCs. In particular, the i5 processor is very fast. It easily supports gaming and multitasking. I play the MMO game War Thunder and it plays very smoothly with great graphic detail. The display screen is full high definition (FHD) 1080p with a 144 Hz refresh rate, giving it smooth, high detail game play and it has outstanding rich, vibrant color. The storage is a 512 GB SSD and memory is 8 GB, both typical and adequate in this class of laptop. It comes with Windows 11 Home, it's clean and streamlined, personally I think it's a good improvement over Win 10. It has all the latest high speed USB type ports, headphone jack, ethernet port and HDMI port and has Wi-Fi 6, the latest Wi-Fi technology. The keyboard is nice looking with the keys highlighted with white edging and backlit with a rainbow of color options. Also, it has a number keypad, giving it a little more versatility than the typical gaming laptop keyboard which usually lacks a number keypad. There's a Control Center App that has four control categories: Power Mode settings for Performance, Power Saver, Quiet, Entertainment; Keyboard for changing/setting keyboard backlight color; Fan Speed for CPU/GPU; and Flex Key for setting keyboard and mouse macros. The sound from the built-in speakers is only average at best, you need a good set of headphones to enjoy the DTS:X audio. Overall, the quality and performance of the components in this laptop make it a good value for its price.

The GIGABYTE G5 MD 15.6" FHD IPS Gaming Laptop is a superior laptop at its price point. The quality is excellent and the specifications are quite a bit higher than expected for such an affordable unit. It is a nice entry level gaming laptop by virtue of its NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti GPU and its mighty 11th gen intel core i5-11400h processor which boasts 6 cores and 12 threads. It also has a vibrant display with Thin Bezel FHD 1920x1080 IPS-level Anti-glare Display LCD and a 144Hz Refresh Rate. I found it excellent for games such as Forza Motorsports and Forge of Empires. The unit only comes with 8GB RAM, however this unit is very easy to upgrade since the bottom can be removed via 12 screws so that you can upgrade the RAM to as much as 64 GB. The battery is also removeable just by popping it off of the bottom of the unit (no dis-assembly required). I like the removeable battery feature so that I can have a backup battery handy if I want to continue use without recharging or connecting the power brick. The keyboard has a solid feel and has various color lights for backlighting the keyboard. It has 4 USB ports which includes a USB-C -great (most laptops don’t have as many USB ports lately). The keyboard also has the accounting keypad array on the right side – also a nice touch. It has an HDMI out port, Mini-Display port, ethernet jack, audio/mic and SD card reader. Touchpad was very smooth. Lots of ports installed in a very nice design. The power comes in the back of the unit which is so much better than the side power ports. The wireless is the latest using Intel AX201, and you get Bluetooth: V5.2. It has 512 GB SSD which is installed as M.2 2280 Nvme Internal SSD card (the latest form factor for SSDs). There is space under the covers for another Nvme Internal SSD as well as an open slot for the more common 2.5 inch internal SSD card. Very nice storage expansion indeed. I would recommend downloading the 10 page more detailed manual (https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/G5--Intel-11th-Gen/support#support-manual); which includes a guide for backing up the installed recovery image to a 32 GB USB thumb drive. This guide will also help you to understand the installed ‘Control Center App’ which allows you to change to 4 different power modes. Also this guide will help you to set up keyboard back lighting options, Flexikey capability, Keyboard macros and fan speed controls – very nice options that can easily be setup. I highly recommend this beautiful laptop for gaming, entertainment and regular work functions.

On paper it seemed like a great deal and I really wanted to like it. However, it feels kinda flimsy, runs very hot and loud, and is thicker than I would like. My unit also came with a corrupted windows install and could not be reset so I returned it.

I got this laptop for $550 in late 2022. For the price and for it's time, you can't really beat the value. Its battery life is bad and it's loud but it's a gaming laptop so you're gonna have to live with that at this price. It's also a bit heavy, so if you plan on having this in your backpack all the time I'd maybe choose a smaller one. Also buy a matching laptop ram stick to upgrade it to 16gb of ram.

This is my first time with a Gigabyte laptop (although I have been using their video cards for some time), but they have delivered a quality machine that performs quite well and provides some great value in the price / performance department. Everything was shipped and packed securely, the unboxing was vanilla, but about what you would expect, and everything was presented well. The machine itself is somewhat understated, which, frankly, is more my style. Plain, black, modern, stealthy looking. Plain logo. It does seem to love fingerprints, but that is just normal for the materials/color choice. The build is solid, “feels good in the hand,” and is a nice weight. Not too light, but not heavy, somewhat standard for a laptop with this size in this class. It is not an ultralight by any means, but you can definitely pack it up and take it on the go if you want. The first thing I noticed about the machine was the display. It is FHD (1920x1080), so not 4K, but I really think that is a good thing here. You can get great game play with the rest of the included hardware while getting “some” more battery life along the way. Colors are bright, vivid, seemingly quite accurate, and the fact that it is fast refresh (at 144Hz) keeps everything extremely smooth. Obviously, it will depend on what you play, how you play, but you can tick up the settings and still get solid frame rates, smooth gameplay, and everything will just look good! Personal preference, but they went with anti-glare versus glossy, and I think it makes for a better experience. Beyond gaming, even just in everyday use, everything looks good. I know most are curious about games but given how much time I spend on my machines not gaming, I figured it was worth a quick word. The only really “negative” I can talk about with this display is the bottom bezel or “chin.” While the top and side bezels are on the thinner side, that chin is a big boy. Perhaps not out of line with others, but it was noticeable to me. It doesn’t take away from all the good the display has going for it, but just something to note. System sound is…good. The speakers do get loud, but don’t expect the cleanest sound from them. The do lack a bit on the low end. You can definitely dig in and adjust some settings to cater them more to your ear, and I think it is worth the time. Further, everything does do quite a bit better when you take the speakers out of play. Headphones or another audio output can be the better option. The keyboard has somewhat surprised me. Spacing is good, the keys have a nice feel to them, are quiet, and it generally is great to use. I feared everything would be a little cramped, but I haven’t found that to be an issue, and I am probably in the minority here, but I absolutely love the addition of the number pad. Like I alluded to earlier, I do use my computers for “life stuff,” and I use the num pad often. A nice add. They give you some nice lighting options/control, and while I am “boring” when it comes to this kind of stuff, I think they have done a great job here and it looks fantastic. As for the trackpad, well, it is good, about standard. It is not the largest, and it is “offset” a bit to line up with the keyboard minus the number pad. Not the best, but by no means an issue. I think when you look at a laptop in this class, the hardware choices are where everything can be won or lost. Generally, I think Gigabyte did a good job here. The CPU choice (Intel i5 11400H) was a good one, especially when in conjunction with their choice of GPU (Nvidia 3050TI). With that CPU, I have had enough power to do several things at the same time without issue, although keeping my expectations reasonable. The GPU, while on the lower end of gaming scale, is still an excellent card that gives you great 1080 gaming performance (which is why I like the display choice). Again, it will depend on what games you play, but you should see solid performance here across the board. I will say, there is a fair amount of power here, and while have not seen any “issues” yet, the machine can run a bit hot when you are hitting it pretty hard. Gigabyte does have a fair amount of intake and venting, and all of this is pretty typical, just keep this is mind when in use. When I said I think they “generally,” did a good job with hardware choices, I was mostly referring to their choice of only including 8GB of RAM. It has worked for me, and I imagine I will not run into many issues. I also imagine when you pack so much good into a machine and keep it at a price point you have to make choices, but in 2022, it is hard to accept 8GB of RAM on a machine. A gaming machine. You can add more if you find the need. I move on. A “similar” thought could be applied to the choice of 512GB of storage on the SSD. That said, I don’t think so, and I am much more OK with this choice. It is a fair amount of storage, and it is fast. Very fast. PCIe Gen 4 use is the main culprit, but as someone who grew up with spinny disks, it is just wild to see. Zero issues here (you can also add more). Same when it comes to the ports on this machine. As time has gone on, ports seem to be vanishing (on some brands more than others). I absolutely value a clean machine and look forward to the possible perfect world scenario of 1 cable to rule them all, but we just are not there yet. Close? Sure. Give me some options until we are there though. I much prefer those over dongles. You get 3 USB-A, USB-C, SD card, Mic, Audio, and both Mini Display and HDMI. Most of the USB are Gen 3.2 as well. It is a similar situation with connectivity. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. All of this is a fantastic add in today’s market. Lastly, I have to hit on battery life. So much of this will depend on brightness, how you use your machine, what you are doing, keyboard lighting, etc…so it is hard to pin down numbers. Further, it is a gaming machine, so this is often not a strength. I would say the battery life is “average” for this type of machine. You probably are looking at 2+ hours of gaming, and somewhere at 4-5 hours of non-gaming use. Your best bet is probably to use some of the power saving features available via Windows and see how you use your machine. Dial in screen and keyboard brightness. Go from there. Ultimately, in the end, this is a fantastic laptop for its class. Full stop. Good build, nice looks, quality components, solid performance, fun and easy to use. I think most people looking would be more than happy with all it can do. It easily can handle the day to day while delivering great gaming performance at the same time. A great value!

I decided to pick up this laptop because I have another one with the same specs that is a 17" and while I like the specs and power the 17" gaming lap top has, it's a little bit big and heavy for packing in my bag when I travel. So when I saw the Gigabyte G5 15.6" with the same processor, and graphics card as my 17" but in a smaller form factor, I had to have it. I already knew I was going to like the power and the graphics, but what I wasn't prepared for was how much more I was going to like this laptop even over my other one. Somehow Gigabyte tuned their computer to a much higher degree of performance. In Tomb Raider Shadow, using the built in benchmark tool to compare, my 17" best run averaged 50 Frames per second. The Gigabyte G5 MD 15.6" crushed that score with an average frame rate of 72!!! Wayyy better, while using the same hardware. I don't know what kind of sorcery Gigabyte used, but they sure do know what they're doing. That's almost a 50% increase in frame rates. I also really liked the keyboard and track pad. The RGB lighting is nice, the feedback and feel of the keys is great. And I really like the cooling system Gigabyte is using also, I was able to use a mouse right next to the laptop without my hand getting blasted by the hot exhaust. The power wire connection on the back edge of the laptop is nice also, it helps keep cable management nice and neat. I could keep on going saying nice things about this laptop, I really didn't have any issues with it at all. If I HAD to pick something they could improve on there is the tiniest bit of back light bleed around the edge of the screen when it's showing an all black screen, but it's not noticeable when there is an actual picture or video showing. Overall I highly recommend this laptop!

    Excellent Mid Level Gaming Laptop

The GIGABYTE G5 MD 15.6" FHD IPS Gaming Laptop is a mid level gaming laptop featuring a bright and fast 144Hz, 1080p FHD screen, a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU, Bluetooth 5.2, and WiFi 6. It has an Intel 11th generation i5-11400 CPU, 8 GB memory and a fast 512 GB SSD. In addition to these specs, what separates the G5 from many other laptops is a plethora of connections including two video out ports, one audio, a SD card slot, and several USB 2 and 3.x ports. These connections make the laptop useful for gaming, entertainment, and general productivity. The Geforce RTX 3050 TI is a low voltage model and performs similar to a GTX 1660. Frame rates are adequate to play AAA games but details must be dialed down for best performance. Of course, general productivity and entertainment are a breeze with the excellent screen, good keyboard and trackpad, and other specifications. Battery life seemed to be about 4.5 hours performing general productivity with performance around 2 hours in gaming. I recommend the G5 for anyone looking for a well built gaming laptop that can also perform well in other functions. The number of ports and the quality of the screen set it apart in this price range.
