This gaming laptop by Gigabyte is one impressive beast that is shockingly lightweight. A lot of processing power from the 11th gen Intel i5 processor paired with a beefy NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU and ample RAM and you have yourself a portable gaming monster. In fact its so lightweight that you will not believe you are carrying that much power in your backpack. The display is nice and bright and crisp. You definitely will appreciate the high 144Hz refresh rate on this thing when you are playing games. Another nice touch is the feel of the keyboard. It is just nice to type on them. There is a nice feedback to button presses but still light and flat that you expect from a laptop keyboard. The laptop advertises advanced cooling techniques and it is pretty quiet during intensive gaming sessions. A nice touch too is the battery is removal externally and not built into the laptop. So if you need to replace the battery, you do not need to tear apart the laptop. With the various ways to expand the storage, they will be M.2 Hard drive purchases in my future. I am just impressed at the power and ability of this laptop crammed into an attractive package and portability of this beast. This laptop will be replacing my Surface Pro as a daily traveler.

This is a top of the line system. It fires up immediately and the lighted keyboard is a must have as well as the comfort keys. The battery life is strong and the graphics are clear and don’t buffer or crack. This has been a great purchase.

For $550 this is an absolute steal. I bought this for Video Editing and am in love so far. Only downside is the 8GB ram, but i easily popped in 64 GB for $120 since this is DDR4 prices are low

    ## Design The Gigabyte G5 laptop is somewhat large and weighs 4.5 pounds, but feels solid as the top and the trim around the keyboard are aluminum with textured plastic sides and a plastic bottom with plenty of ventilation. The keyboard has RGB LED backlighting that you can customize the color of with the pre-installed LED Keyboard Setting app in Windows. If you’re sick of living the “dongle life” and miss having ports directly on the computer, then this laptop will not disappoint. The Gigabyte G5 laptop has plenty of ports: - USB 3.2 port - another USB 3.2 port - USB 2.0 port - USB-C port - SD card reader - HDMI port - Mini DisplayPort 1.4 - Ethernet Port - audio combo jack - mic jack ## Display This Gigabyte G5 laptop features a 15.6” 1080p display with 144Hz refresh rate. The screen has a matte finish that helps minimize glare. The screen looks beautiful whether you’re working in Word, playing a few rounds of Fortnite, or watching an HD movie. The screen features wide viewing angles, but the backlighting will look best when facing the screen head on. The Gigabyte G5 did not detect my external monitor when connecting through my USB-C docking station, so you’ll want to use the HDMI or Mini DisplayPort for an external monitor. My only critique of the display would be a moderate amount of backlight bleed, which is not unusual from other gaming laptops I’ve used. However, if you plan to watch a lot of letterboxed movies on this and you’re OCD about backlight bleed, you’ll definitely notice it. ## Performance The laptop uses an 11th generation Intel i5-11400H processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti graphics. I used UserBenchmark’s tool with Gigabyte’s “Control Center” application set to “Performance”, the laptop plugged into AC power, and the NVIDIA graphics card set as the default. UserBenchmark rated this PC as follows: - PC Status: 92% “Overall this PC is performing way above expectations (92nd percentile).” - Processor: 93% “With a gaming score of 93%, this CPU's suitability for 3D gaming is excellent.” - GPU: 73.5% “73.5% is a good 3D score. This GPU can handle the majority of recent games at high resolutions and ultra detail levels.” - Boot Drive: 368% (relative performance due to insufficient samples) “This drive is suitable for heavy workstation use, it will facilitate fast boots, responsive applications and allow for fast transfers of multi-gigabyte files.” - Memory Kit: 53.1% “8GB is enough RAM to run any version of Windows and it's sufficient for the vast majority of games.” While playing Fortnite on the “Performance” setting, the FPS seemed to average around 70. After a self-assessment, Fortnite set itself to “High” for graphics quality. Gameplay was smooth and looked sharp and vibrant on the built-in display. The built-in speakers are decent and even have a little bit of bass to them, but if you’re like me, you’ll likely be gaming with a headset and not relying on the built-in speakers. However, the built-in speakers are fine for watching YouTube videos or attending virtual meetings. The laptop only has 8 GB of RAM which seems to be becoming the new minimum you’ll want in a Windows 11 PC. However, the laptop still performed very well for gaming and multitasking, but some memory heavy applications like video editors (and Google Chrome, lol) may quickly gobble up the available RAM. Gigabyte does include some customization software (simply named “Control Center”) which allows you to adjust the fan speeds and create keyboard and mouse macros. There is also a “Quiet” setting that can be helpful for studying or working in a quiet library or coffee shop (with, of course, a hit to performance to keep the heat in check). ## Summary Overall, whether you’re just getting into gaming or you’re a student that wants a laptop for both your studies and your study breaks, this Gigabyte G5 laptop is a solid performer for productivity and gaming alike. There are a plethora of ports available and the screen is easy on the eyes for long study and gaming sessions.

    Gaming on a budget

The Gigabyte G5 offers a great way to get in to pc gaming with a laptop all without breaking the bank. While this set up may not offer the top of the line hardware it doesn't mean that it still does not allow for some of the most smooth and beautiful gaming you can expect to receive from some of top triple A games out right now. Out of the box one of the first things i noticed was the simplicity of the laptop. As a older gamer i really don't want to be carrying around a laptop that has all these bright colors and graphical designs that one might expect to see a teen carrying around. The laptop is very sleek and basic looking but that in essence is not a bad thing at all. My only gripe about the design is the finish they went with, which appears to be a matte black finish. Anyone that has ever owned any kind of a matte finish especially black will tell you that is very hard to keep clean and every time you open the laptop or touch it for that matter it leaves very noticeable greasy looking finger print. The track pad is nice and wide giving you ample room to move your mouse and the right and left click are very well placed providing ease of use. The keys do offer rgb lighting which also allows for customization of different colors and timers. You can chose to have the backlighting off, on all the time, or you can set it on a timer so that it shuts off the lighting after so many seconds then comes back on the minute you press a key. Full charge takes about a couple hours to accomplish and run time while gaming only yields about an hour before needing a charge. I wouldn't personally recommend gaming anyways without the power cable being plugged in as performance becomes hindered due to a lack of constant power and pre-built factory settings. Your screen is a typical FHD with nothing special about it however the colors come through very bright and vibrant. I don't want to get in to the specs a whole lot as they can be easily found off of Best Buy's website. While getting ready to test this laptop i was honestly a little worried if it would be able to hang with the hardware that is built in to it. A 3050ti is a nice step above the 10 series however my 2070 super can still outperform it and allows for more over clocking. The 3050ti will give you all the nice features the newest cards have to offer such as Ray Tracing and DLSS however the standard 8GB of Ram had me wondering just how much lag i would experience while running my mods and performance monitors. To be quite honest i was very impressed to just how well this basic little set up performed. Heaven benchmark came back with a score of 2428 and average frame rate of 96.4 at max settings. Temps held steady with cpu hovering around 75°C and GPU temps staying at 82°C. When pushed to ultra settings GPU temps did rise to 88°C however they never climbed any higher nor did i ever experience any throttling issues. When pushed to its limits with MMO games such as Lost Ark or Final Fantasy XiV frame rates held steady at 82 frames and dropped down to about 70 frames when in crowded areas. Running multiple mods and applications such as MSI afterburner didn't seem to effect the measly 8GB of Ram as much as i thought it would. In fact i don't think i experienced any lag, screen tearing or ghosting during high pace action pvp games such as COD or Apex. Now the higher the quality the game the higher temps, which did make it very difficult to maintain the laptop on my lap. There were times the laptop got too hot to place on my lap requiring me to use a desk or table. Heat is displaced via dual rearward intake fans and exited out of both side vents. When temps do get in to the upper 80s the fans do ramp up to high speed mode and become very audible. Here's the bottom line. No this laptop does not have the most top of the line hardware out there. And yes 8GB of Ram is pathetic in my opinion, however this laptop had me thinking very different in the end. When pushed to its limit and forced to run ultra settings it sat there and took it with a smile on its face. Yes the temps did increase and frame rate did drop a bit but never to the point where i experienced in game performance issues. Never would i own a 3050 ti series as i personally would rather step up to the 3080ti however this little GPU has got me rethinking just how far DLSS has come. With the rising cost of goods these days, especially in the computer and gaming world, i know budget is always a big concern. So here is my suggestion. If you are on a budget and want to get in to PC gaming without breaking your bank and without ripping your hair out due to performance issues, then this set up is the way to go. At this price point this laptop will easily handling any gaming out there and when forced to push ultra settings it may scream a little bit but it can easily handle it. This laptop is honestly the best bang for your buck without sacrificing too much.

Bargain Priced, High Performance Gaming Laptop

Is this a bargain-priced gaming laptop? It sure looks that way! With a generous 15.6” Full HD screen, an 11th gen Intel i5-11400H processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti and a 512GB SSD this appears to be a smartly conceived gaming laptop that is high on performance even without the latest and greatest processor. It comes with an easily removable 14.4V, 49W battery. Though a touchscreen is absent, the display’s 144Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA card provide sharp images with no discernable lag. The built-in webcam is going to be put to good use whether for gaming, school work or any old use. The rear facing ports include power, HDMI, Ethernet and Display Port for easy connection to an external monitor. No complaints here. The left side sports a high speed USB-A and standard USB-A port as well as mic and headset jack. On the right can be found another high-speed USB-A port, its only USB-C port and an SD card slot. Let’s dive in. **WHAT’S IN THE BOX** • Gigabyte G5 MD with 15.6” screen • 150W power supply • Documentation **THE SETUP** At 4.5 pounds, this is not a heavyweight for its size. Surprisingly nimble, setup was easy and typical for a gaming laptop that is also expected to be able to handle everyday use for students. Its sweet-spot sub-$1000 pricing makes it an even more attractive package that is above entry level yet below high performance which is going to easily cost twice the price or more. Set up for maximum performance OR optimizing battery life is up to the user. Removal of a few screws reveals the inner workings, a slot to add more and better RAM, and the fan setup to exhaust the heat from taxing the processor. There is also space for added internal storage, but that would defeat the purpose of this budget rig. A 720p webcam is fine, not great, for gaming and meetings. Bluetooth 5.2 is included. Adjustment of keyboard backlighting is easily accomplished. Settings made to this user’s preferences, it’s time to . . . **PUT IT TO THE TEST** It’s funny. Prepared to NOT love this rig, this user is impressed. Gigabyte is about gamers making computers for gamers, and meeting their needs at a good price point. Mission accomplished. Have no fear that younger students getting started in gaming will be thrilled just as it is. They will also be satisfied with the performance while using it for studies that include STEM apps. It is easy to see that the Gigabyte G5 MD would be an ideal gift for the young gamer and student just getting started in gaming. Even equipped as it is, gaming is a pleasant experience without significant choking when taxed. Wi-Fi 6 AX works well in this home with a tri-band mesh router and there is no performance lag, though best performance will always come from Ethernet connectivity. Popular games including Doom look and perform admirably. Add great sound from DTS:X 3D Cinema with virtual surround through 7.1 channels for an admirably immersive experience. **CONCLUSION** Compromises that are mitigated by stellar performance at its price are what sets this and other Gigabyte computers ahead of the competition. This is quite a bargain! Look no further. This is the real deal and comes with a solid recommendation. **WARRANTY** Manufacturer’s one year parts and labor warranty.

This Gigabyte G5 MD gaming laptop is powerful and has a lot of great features. The thought that went into this laptop is amazing. First is the placement of the power cord, HDMI port and ethernet port located in the BACK of the laptop. I don't know why this isn't the common placement for all laptops, but it is such a convenience to have the heavy cables in the back of the laptop instead of protruding out the sides and curving to the back usually getting in the way of other ports. So a big THANK YOU to Gigabyte for that feature. The variety of usb ports is another great feature. No need for adapters. Thin bezel, lit keyboard, and number pad add to the list. The keyboard is awesome. The keys are large with a nice texture. Mousepad placement and rests are comfortable to the hands. Using the gaming center allows custom settings on backlight colors, fan speeds, flexikey, and power modes. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU 4GB GDDR6 with raytracing is powerful enough to run games in medium to high settings. My games look and play awesome. The fans get loud, but the laptop has not gotten hot during hours of playing. 512 GB's SSD storage and 8GB memory are starting points and plenty to begin with. There's plenty of room to expand in the future up to 64 GB memory. This is a powerful gaming laptop.

I have been wanting a gaming laptop for a long time now, and when this laptop went on sale for $550 I had to pull the trigger. So far I have no regrets and am impressed with the build quality. I added a 1TB SSD Nvme and another 8GB of RAM, and this thing is a beast. Definitely worth getting if it's on sale, the 3050ti is a powerful little guy. Pros - fast, sleek design, LED keyboard, 144 hz monitor, 3050ti, price (I paid $550). Cons - Gets loud, but that's to be expected so I am not taking a star away. The battery is also not great, which is also to be expected. Honestly, other than those two things I have no complaints. I guess the speakers could be better but it's just nitpicking at that point. Summary - If you want a budget gaming laptop that is easily upgradable I would highly recommend getting this laptop, only if it's on sale though. Pros - F=

I am really thrilled with this laptop because I can use it for gaming as well as work and hobby tasks. It has a lot of features that I wanted that many other laptops don’t have: - It has easy access to the battery so you can double the battery life by buying a spare battery. - It has a mini Display Port and a HDMI port for using external monitors. - You can expand the storage by adding another NVMe SSD as well as a 2.5” SSD drive. - There is a SD slot so you can import video and photos directly from a SD card. - It has a full keyboard including the numeric keypad. It does have some limitations though. There is only a single 8 gb ddr4 ram module, the second slot is empty. The included SSD is only a 512 gb NMVe but that is what most laptops include in this price range. I don’t consider either of these an issue since I can add memory and storage very easily in this laptop. The display is FHD and reasonably quick at the 144 hz but I did notice some IPS glow/backlight bleed on darker games and images. Overall I would have no problem recommending this laptop for anyone who games, dabbles in photo and video editing and also uses the typical Windows Office apps. Performance: 3D Mark Scores and estimated FPS for some games Time Spy Score = 5972 Graphic Score 5940 CPU Score 6167 Red Dead Redemption 2 @1080p = less than 30 fps Fortnite = 80+ fps GTA V = 60+ fps Apex Legends = 100+ FPS Battlefield V = 80+ fps In the Gigabytes Control Center software you can select the Power Modes, Flexikey, LED Keyboard and Fan Speed Control. The Flexikey tab allows you to configure Macro keys and Profiles for gaming. The LED Keyboard tab lets you select the color of the keyboard backlighting. The Fan Speed Control lets you adjust the GPU and CPU fan speeds. There are four preconfigured Power Modes; Power Saving, Quiet, Entertainment and Performance. These settings are quite useful when you are using the laptop and trying to limit the heat and noise. Using Geekbench 5 I was able to get Single Core = 1378, Multi Core = 5654 and CL score of 71137. When playing Assetto Corsa I could barely hear the car engine over the fans at times. Not all the games were that bad, it just depends on the game and setting. When I was benchmarking the laptop the GPU and CPU would hit between 60 and 80 degrees with the fans running full blast so you have to expect some heat coming out of the vents when gaming as well. Both my gaming headphones and wireless controller connected via Bluetooth without issue and I never felt like there was any delay in response even when running the laptop all out. The display provided good contrast and brightness and the colors were rich. As noted above I do see some IPS Glow/Backlight Bleed on dark screens but I don’t consider it that noticeable. The Nvidia 3050 Ti is at the low end but it still did a respectable job when set at 1980x 1080 HD with the 144 refresh rate. Specs: This laptop is mostly plastic but it feels solid. The display is 1920x1080 HD at 144hz which is adequate for the games I play. The CPU is the Intel i5 11400H, there are two DDR4 slots but only one is used for the single module of 8gb DDR4 3200mhz. The SSD is a M.2 NVMe PCIe 512gb SSD and there is a second NVMe slot and an open 2.5” SSD bay for adding additional storage. The video card is the NVidia RTX 3050 Ti which is on the lower end of the Nvidia 30 series. The laptop supports wi-fi 6 and Bluetooth v5.2, has an ethernet port, an audio jack, a single USB 2.0-A port, two USB 3.2-A ports and a single USB 3.2-C port. The keyboard includes a numeric keypad and is a back lit and color selectable. The speakers are located in the front of the base and are typical laptop speakers. There are three vents for cooling, one on each side and one in the back. The webcam is a 720p camera built into the display bezel and does an ok job for video calls.

It's a great product for $550 (That's what I got it for.) If you see it at this price and not sold out, you need to snag it right then and there because it will sell out within HOURS at that price. If you are going to buy this product at the usual price, I do not recommend it. This computer will run games like Fortnite with high settings averaging 150fps, while it runs older games such as Guild Wars 2 on maximum settings with no problem. The battery life is only about an hour while playing most games; if not on the charger while playing, the speed and quality of the game will diminish rapidly. The last thing is sound; this is a very loud product while not doing a very demanding task. As you can tell by the previous statement, it will be very noisy while performing a more difficult task. Overall, if you are willing to have it on the charger, deal with noise, and get it for $550, I highly recommend this product!
