Glory is a story of a minor regiment that had a profound impact on the future of blacks in the Union Army. One can still see the prejudice that is held by many of the North and how the race is view as a whole, but it also give the view of what they had to endure amongst themselves.
As for actors selected, I found Matthew Brokerick and Cary Elwes harder to believe in thier roles of Col Shaw and Major Forbes, but that may just be I had seen them star in comedies before and this was the first major drama that I saw them in. As for the black actors, they did very will and were very believable in thier roles. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman are dramatic actors and fit thier roles like a silk glove on a lady's hand.
For those that are historian buffs that do not mind the added elements that Hollywood adds for story, then this is one that should be considered as a part of any Civil War buff's collection.

Still holds up as a sentimentalized portraiture of newly freed men and their desire to serve in war. War is no joke and along with the seriousness of the engagement, and the necessity of obeying orders (the latter then turned to romanticize the bravery of doing so), comes the fear and isolation even on a field surrounded by dying friends and enemies.
In some ways it's better for soldiers to think of themselves as already dead. Certainly for some it shows in their inability to cope back at home.
War kills now and later.

You get a great movie in 4K. However, the digital code expired years ago and so far I have received no help in getting a replacement code. If you are not into digital copies and are only looking for a crisp new version of a great movie this is for you.

I had seen this movie before and was impressed with the story, production, and acting. When I saw it in the discount bin in Blue Ray format, I had to buy it. Some people don't like war movies but this one tells the story of a Civil War brigade from Massachusetts comprised of African Americans and the tribulations they went through to become a crack military unit.

Set in the height of the Civil War, the Union established an all-black infantry to fight against the Confederacy. Staring Mathew Broderick, Morgan Freedman, and Denzel Washington (won an academy award for his performance), they go through the struggle of an infantry to be given supplies and convincing higher ranked generals to fight for the Union.

I love this movie based on a true story ofl Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, and his 54th black Massachusetts regiment, Robert always wrote letters to his mom about the 54th and she saved those letters that's how this movie came about it's a great movie must watch.

Even though it is a bit dramatized, Glory is one of the first films to highlight the courage of both free black men and aristocratic white men in Northern States during the 19th century American Civil War. While there are examples of black men fighting in earlier American wars, this film makes a fairly successful attempt to illustrate how the collision of general prejudice and progressive political ideals of the time compel a regiment of men to serve with distinguished honor and courage against military, social, and even self-perpetuated enemies. A good film to watch!

It goes without saying, Glory is one of the best (war) movies of all time. The acting is excellent. Hard subject matter to watch, but very well done. Watching it in a 4k remaster does make the film feel more vivid and intense.
Absolutely worth upgrading to the improved picture if you own on dvd.

This has always been a favorite war movie. I saw it in Junior High the first time and it left a powerful impression on me. Great movie. The blu-ray quality was very good. Audio quality was excellent, big booming cannons and the like during battle sequences and the video quality was very good.

This movie will interest anyone interested in the civil war. It tells the war from a perspective rarely seen in mainstream accounts of the civil war. In addition, the extras, especially the interactive battlefield maps are a great addition to the blu-ray. The sale price these were available at sweetened hte deal even more.

It’s very different to see Matthew Broderick in this kind of role, but he pulls it off. It’s a good film, and it looks great in 4K.

This is a great movie for those who enjoy movies about the Civil War. It shows the hardships of the black soldiers who were willing to fight for their freedom in the Northern Army. Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman all give great performances in this movie.

I've seen this movie and have a thing for history. Though the movie glamorizes the actual civil war story (what movie doesn't), it still shows the tenacity of a soldier willing to fight and the issues the northern white folks (including military officers) still had with African-American soldiers!
I gave the movie 4 stars because the Blu-Ray didn't enhance the movie much. Then again, most of these era movies (Terminator comes to mind) weren't shot that high-res as today.

Glory is a remarkable film. Perfectly cast with awesome battle scenes, this is a film that everyone should see. The score is also exceptional. Looks great in upscaled 4k on this Blu-Ray. Only negative is that there are no extras included on this disc.

This is one of my favorite movies and based off a true army unit. It shows the pride of the black man. They didn't want freedom handed to them. They wanted to earn it by fight for it. It makes you stop and think about the things we take for granted.

A great story well told and well filmed (superb!), and worth seeing again and again. One of the great Civil War stories well before Ken Burns' PBS series and later Civil War like Gettsburg, Of God and Generals, and Cold Mountain (tho all those are good too).

Have watched this movie several times, and I get a glimpse of what these Black soldiers went though, and the perseverance of the soul of these true and rare men that struggle during this sad time in American history...
