Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Chromecast's ease of use, streaming capabilities, and picture quality. Many appreciate its affordability and the ability to transform a standard TV into a smart TV. However, some users experienced connectivity issues, and the lack of a physical remote control was a common point of feedback. The small size and generally positive performance were also frequently noted.

Great for those under budget and no Smart TV

I have used the older versions of the Chromecast with ease and had to get another! There are a few connectivity issues from time to time but those are easy fixes. Common streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, etc work well with this device with no additional setup required. Overall, Chromecast is great when you don't have Smart TV and under a budget.

Great Alternative when Roku has Contract dispute

I picked these up for my TVs because Roku has recently had a few issues with media companies and their contracts resulting in the loss of the channel/content. Its nice to have an alternative for when Roku suddenly drops a channel and you are left missing out (almost missed super bowl 2020 and recently NBC Peacock is not available). This might not be Roku's fault, but we need to plan ahead and have an alternative for these times. The Chromecast really shines when you need to cast content from your computer screen. Whether its a video you can't play through Roku or even just your desktop screen, the Chromecast is great for sharing content from your computer screen. The price on these is acceptable if a bit more than I'd like to pay but at least it is not the price of the Chromecast Ultra which is very overpriced at $70. Even though it has an ethernet port... Most of the time I do not have issues with my chromecasts but occasionally there are connectivity issues when streaming content from apps on my phone (NBC Sports) but I do not have any issues with Netflix and other apps so it might just be the apps fault. The setup process is a bit convoluted in that you have to download the Google Home app and get setup on the before your Chromecast will work. I'd definitely recommend these as a backup to other streaming tools and if you need to cast your computer screen its fantastic.

Like the original model, it has CEC HDMI, and can turn on/off the television, (IF the power source is not the television), and/or automatically select the right input source, provided your television has CEC services. (Only one of my TV sets does). Like the original, it connects to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-fi networks. So what are all these improvements over the original or 2nd generation? Mostly processing power and additional connectivity options. From a UI standpoint, it is precisely the same. From a UX standpoint, the difference is probably not noticeable. With an Ethernet adapter (sold separately), one can use a more reliable wired network. It streams video from its source, not from your device, (except when doing screen mirroring, second monitor). This means your device can initiate content, then shutdown/disconnect/etc., and the content keeps playing. If you decide, you can allow others to also stream from their devices as a guest, even if they are NOT on your network, by enabling "guest mode," (off my default). Speaking of which, all documentation insist that one needs to be on the same Wi-fi network to use the device while not in guest mode, but this is not true; one simply needs to be on the same internal network, even if on separate WiFi AP. It is fully controllable with the Google Assistant. "Hey, Google, show me the latest Tony Northrup YouTube video in the Florida room, please." "Okay, Google, advance two minutes and forty-five seconds, please.” It is a great purchase. This is NOT the 4k model. If you have a UHD television, you may want to get the 4k model.

New Chromecast worked to replace old model

I had to replace my old Chromecast, because it wasn't connecting anymore. I wasn't sure if a new model would work, but it did! I used my Google Home app to configure it to my TV, it was easy. It now works to stream from all compatible apps, no problems anymore.

I can't highlight this enough, I use it daily. I love being able to cast almost anything from my android phone to the TV. Whether it's a song, or a music video, my own pictures, a website, a movie, Disney+, or Amazon Prime video. It's a must have!

Such good value for what you get. It's a simple interface, and it makes it super easy to watch stuff from your phone on a TV. It can be a bit tricky to set up when you make home network changes or move to a new house etc., but not too bad. The app is helpful.

I’ve been using the Amazon Fire TV devise so this was experience for me. I like the fact that you can use your phone or table to search and play videos from YouTube and movie streaming sites. It’s faster then using a remote that comes with most dedicated devises. I found it a little frustrating in the beginning but once I got used to it I was happy that I made the purchase. It’s better to create a play list in YouTube so you don’t have to keep going back to your phone to select something else to watch especially if you are doing other things while the TV is playing. I’ve used it to stream Netflix and a few other services. Amazon doesn’t seem to be available so that’s something to think about if you have that available. Fairly easy to install but you will need to read the directions guys or you will find numerous dead ends. I have used this for travel and it worked great and reliably. I Recommend this for travel and if you are a big YouTube watcher.

Easy to use and setup. Only problem I had was it was not able to use free WiFi where you have to click on login page (doesn't have that ability). Other than that if you have WiFi can stream mostly popular formats (NO streaming Amazon Prime from phone) and pics and vids saved on your phone when there is no wifi (direct connection).

Not for most but a must for YouTube 1080p 60fps

Alright I'm going to be honest. other than a aesthetic change to match the Chromecast Ultra and a bit of an increase in size. Not that different than the last Chromecast and most people with the second gen Chromecast aren't missing out on much. Except for one difference that will make buying this model worth it for a small group of people of which I am a part of. The gamer and the game walkthrough watcher community. Because internally the specs of this model I think give this model a 15% boost in performance which is modest but significant enough to enable this specific model to output video at 1080p at 60fps where as the previous model could only do 1080p 30fps and 720 60fps. This is important to me because Youtube since 2015 has enable channels the option to upload HD video at 60fps which is useful in particular for video games that play at that framerate (basically all PC titles and a large portion of console games in particular first person shooters and some others) I particularly value it because one channel on YouTube pretty much uploads all there videos in HD at 60fps. That channel would be the lovely people at Digital Foundry. If you don't know who they are then go check them out and you will quickly see they are more than a typical gaming channel. So basically if you like watching YouTube in HD at 60fps then this is for you other than that then your not missing much. Except maybe the fact that this can also be used with Google's smart speakers or rather Google home I can't really remember exactly but it involved something with speakers. So that's all I know.

The quality of the device is excellent and it's set up extremely simple. I am not sure it adds much value unless one takes advantage of high-speed internet and 4K tv. The regular Chromecast is ridiculously inexpensive at Best buy now and a great bargain I have both.

This powerful little HDMI dongle is an excellent way of improving an older television. You can "cast" certain apps from your iPhone to your TV. Such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc. I'm impressed with the speed and quality of this device. It does not take more than an instant to connect and start using.

Chromecast - works well if you've an android phone or have Google Chrome browser installed. Usually no issues with streaming. Simple plug and play & connect to Home app to connect to wifi. Sometimes freezes up so have to do a hard reset which is annoying since it's behind the tv. Has a magnet inside so it sticks to the tv. Requires outlet.

This Chromecast media player works as well as expected. To cast from a PC you need to use Google Chrome browser to initiate screen or tab sharing. Then, you can share anything shown on your desktop to the TV. To cast from your iPhone, you simply click on the Cast symbol. Note that with my television, I need to change the source to the HDMI port where the Chromecast player is plugged in. My TV allows me to name each port so I named it "Chromecast". Other televisions may work differently. This is a great product that is not very expensive for what it does. I'm still considering whether or not I should have chosen a media player that also provides TV channels (Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, etc.). The Chromecast player is excellent while I decide. There are plenty of smart TVs that have Chromecast built-in, such as my second TV.

I love the Chromecast and I have one installed on every TV in my home. Flawless casting YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, etc. I have a 60mb download internet connection and I have used Chromecast with both a wired (you need a separate adapter) and a wireless connection. You can find applications on Android that you can cast just about any video from the internet to a Chromecast. Now if only they would support Amazon Prime Video... EDIT: They've gone and done it, ladies and gentlemen! Google and Amazon have worked it out and now we can cast Prime Video to these devices! I'm in hog heaven!
