Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Chromecast's ease of use, streaming capabilities, and picture quality. Many appreciate its affordability and the ability to transform a standard TV into a smart TV. However, some users experienced connectivity issues, and the lack of a physical remote control was a common point of feedback. The small size and generally positive performance were also frequently noted.

This is my 2nd Google Chromecast for my home. I have one in my living room (2nd Gen) and this one in my bedroom (3rd Gen). Not everyone can afford Smart TVs and not every smartphone is compatible with MHL adapters (such as my Samsung Galaxy J7 Star & Samsung Galaxy On5). I don't have the Google Mini accessory, as my Frontier DSL WiFi might not be able to handle a "Smart Home", so this is just for streaming videos and screen mirroring. I also feel that "Smart TVs" can develop problems overtime, unlike my TVs and the Chromecast devices which are not built in to each other. Setup was easy thru the Google Home app on my smartphone. It took about 5 minutes. Connecting it to an empty HDMI port could be a challenge if you have cable spaghetti. The device is very small and fits very well in tight spaces. I would give it 5 stars if there was a way to connect without WiFi. Best Buy had a discount during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The online order and in store pickup was very convenient. 4 Stars for the Google Chromecast.

I have used both the Chromecast and the apple tv and I like the fact that the chrome cast is small, inexpensive, and easy to use. It works with most apps and loads fast, would recommend it!

I enjoy using the Google Chromecast because it is easy to setup/configure, and it works with just about every device I stream video. My wife and I will quickly stream YouTube videos while talking about a topic because the Chromecast device is so simple to connect to. Before, we'd have to crack out a laptop or tablet to share the video with each other; now, one of us will pull up the info on our phone, stream to the Chromecast, watch the video, and Bam! We are done. I have a few TVs that don't have cable receivers, so the Chromecast makes those televisions now more useful when we have guest using the rooms with those televisons. I definitely would recommend picking up the Chromecast device.

Great streaming product. Easily connected to the TV and setup. Easily able to cast to from iPhone, Android and Laptop. We already have a Roku but this was just as simple to hook up and use.

When looking to have the ability to stream movies, tv or even some cable types like HBO, you need to look no further. I have a 96 inch Mitsubishi rear projection. Awesome picture. Won't work well in the bedroom. hehe Needed a way to stream that which we aren't able to get on cable or from our 4K blue ray dvd player. This was perfect. I downloaded the app to a tablet that always sits on the coffee table so everyone has access. Literally this was plug n play as it was meant to be. I downloaded the app to my phone and when I want to watch YouTube on something bigger than my phone, I push a button POW, there it is!! I highly recommend this.

Setup is a little but complicated compared to a Roku stick for example. The dependency on the phone apps and the lack of a real remote might be something you might consider. But for the price, if you are used to use only the phone apps is a good choice. Note the streaming of services like Netflix for example comes straight from de provider’s servers and not from the phone app. That means that the phone, once the streaming starts, is only used as a remote control to play/pause/etc the movie. And that is a good thing.

I was having some major issues with the original version of the Chromecast. Things get old...they get slow. This new version is just much more responsive. Everything about it is great - more compact, more support for things. Now...I don't recommend this over a full-fledged media device such as Roku, Amazon Fire or Apple TV as those devices do all native apps without needing your phone. But if you are just looking for something to cast your Android phone, Chromecast is the best for that, better than any of those Chinese-made Android TV boxes.

    Some Improvement Over Previous version

I had the previous Chroma cast. It worked fine, but lately seemed a littel slow. Well, I bought this new version. And it's really much faster than the previous. I didn't notice anything new on regards Image qualitiy, maybe the 4K version is better, but it is already good enough for my 55"Vizio TV. What impressed me thou it's the size. It's tiny. And pig tail allows me to hide it behind my TV, compared to the stiff previous one. Installation was simple, easy. The bottom line is, this is faster than the sitck-style old chromecast, and nicer visually, and if you have a regular 1080 TV this is good enough. If you have a 4K TV, maybe is better to go with the 4K version.

I was recently on vacation and wanted to link to one of my accounts online to watch some movies from my Library. So I ran out and picked up a Google Chromecast Streaming Media Player, and it only took me minutes to set it up and an access my movies. It was a rainy day, and our group was stuck in the rental for the day, and this device allowed us to continue to enjoy our vacation. Also, I've been using it on the road when I travel for work, and again, not problem connecting through the hotel's wireless/cable provide internet. I recommend it to everyone want's streaming access to you account with either Amazon, Netflix, etc., or even private LAN's or WAN's you have access too.

I set my mom up with two new chromecasts because I’ve been using them for years. I will say consistently there has been issues sometimes during setup where my WiFi password is rejected repeatedly and turning of my wife and turning it back on doesn’t work, rechecking the password, unplugging the chromecast, doing upgrades on the chromecast. Nothing works. I’ve had to just keep entering my password and wait for chromecast to accept it on multiple occasions with different chromecast devices. But once it’s connected, IT’S FLAWLESS!!! I love them despite the hiccup.

I purchased this because it is Roon-ready, and I wanted to be able to use the HDMI in on my AV receiver to play files via Roon. The Chromecast does this without skipping, but is very limited in passing on DSP performed by the host computer. The sound quality is ok, but not great. This is to be expected, of course. After all, the Chromecast isn't designed to be a high-end audio device. I experimented with playing movies through some of the apps, and they work flawlessly. This is more in line with what the Chromecast was is designed to do. I took a flyer on this device, hoping the assertion"the source doesn't matter, it's all ones and zeroes" was correct in the world of digital audio reproduction. That assertion is simply false. For those who use the Chromecast for the purposes it was truly designed, it's an excellent, versatile device. You won't be disappointed.

Makes streaming from a mobile device (or even a VR headset) bulletproof. Only complaint is a slight lag, so the audio will sound off by 1/2 a second.
