We live in California and have to leave town for work too much, but we can check in on the pet sitter and our cat and dog all day and night. It's amazing. and it's actually really fun just watching the animals. It sends you and alert (if you want it to) whenever there is movement or sounds. So whenever we get an alert we give it a look. It's also peace of mind to check in on our belongings and make sure if anyone did break in or try, we'd have a video record of it. Love it. Worth every cent. We are going to buy more.

These cameras captured someone trying to get in the house, thanks to this cameras that are small and bend to the perfect angle we were able to see perfect the person who try to break in. I have one even in the house facing out and it works amazing. If I were to say a down size of it, make sure you have a great internet and not too far from the router as when they disconnect you have to rescan them again. Overall, I love them.

I really love this product. The only thing i don't like is having to pay for "History", i think they should at least give 24-48hr of video history for free. I bought this to check on my pets while we were out of the country and it worked excellent, everytime the picture quality and connection was good! We bought a dlink camera before this one and we had to return it because it was horrible, it kept disconnecting and giving us problems. The only good think about dlink cameras is the availability to pan and tilt.

We own two of these cameras. One is staged in a second floor window pointing towards our drive & the other is in our foyer . We also pay for a subscription so we can log and create clips to download. We have used some of the video as proof to our HOA that a homeowner lets their dogs mess in our area and neglect to pick it up. Great resolution!

Good camera, ongoing costs to keep history events

I purchased this camera to keep an eye on our cats while away on vacation. It has a large angle view (I think 130 degrees?) of the room you are monitoring. When the lights are on the camera provides full color views that are crisp and have good resolution. When at night (or the lights are out and it's a bit darker), the camera switches to infra-red mode and everything is black and white. So you can still monitor activity even at night. I liked the free 30 day trial of storing the history for any motion or sounds detected. I could go back and review what our cats were up to. Nest should be a bit clearer that there will be a monthly fee to keep 10 days of history in their cloud (higher monthly cost option to keep 30 days of history) after the trial period. So without buying the monthly plan, I still get notified about any motion and/or sound, but I can only view real-time events. I have found that the notifications come usually 2-3 minutes after an event, so unless you are on the monthly plan to store events, you will have to almost be watching live if you want to catch something happening out of the ordinary. One other cool note on the history: you can record a clip and share it through other media options like FB or save the file to your computer. So any special events can be archived separate from the Nest system. The final cool feature is that you can talk through the camera to anyone in the room where the camera is located. So we could talk to our cats and watch their reaction from the camera. I have also inadvertently scared my wife when I tried to talk to her through the camera and she agrees that if there was ever an intruder and we used the voice option to say something, we are certain it will scare them away. This is a reasonably priced, very good product. I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't need to pay an ongoing monthly subscription to keep 10 days of history events. I really only need maybe 24-48 hours of history to monitor with this camera, but that is not an option offered. So as long as you know the long-term cost requirements, the quality is very good and this single camera accomplished my needs to monitor our cats while away.

Probably the Best Camera Available for Under $200

The new Nest Cam was purchased from Best Buy to supplement a Drop Cam that was purchased on ebay. The two cameras were placed side by side for testing (I was given no product or money for testing the Nest Cam). The Nest App operates the same for each camera. Each camera has identical image quality when set at 720p. The Nest Cam will operate at 1080p but there is only the slightest difference in image quality from 720p. When set at 1080p, the motion on the Nest Cam is slightly jumpy. The Drop Cam does not support 1080p. The set up for each camera is easy with only a 1 minute delay in the set up as the camera searches for a Wi-Fi signal. The camera can be completely set up with a cell phone or computer. Use the Nest App when setting up with a cell phone (I used an iPhone 5 for the set up). When setting up the Nest Cam, it is convenient to use the QR code. Be sure the Nest App in settings has your CAMERA ON to use the QR code for set up. The Nest App has had recent improvements that should significantly upgrade its ratings. When I first started using the Nest App about 4 months ago it was very unstable and often crashed. A few weeks ago there was an update that made it more stable but not perfect. Today I installed a second update and I can tell immediately that many of the stability issues that had not been fixed in the first update are now fixed. I am sure there is still room for improvement but the Nest App now seems much more acceptable. Here are the good points about the Nest Cam: Extremely easy set up. Great image quality. Easy to select specific areas to monitor without moving the camera. Very reliable detecting motion. Continuous recording 24 hours a day. Motion warnings can be sent to your cell phone. Great microphone and speaker. Easy to change settings from cell phone or computer. History clips can be quickly checked. After looking at a motion history event, it is easy to review what happened before or after the event. After a power loss, the camera automatically comes back on line when power is restored. The best customer service of any tech company I have ever called. Great response to issues. The Nest people listen to the customers and improve the product. This is very evident in the recent improvements of the Nest App. The Nest App runs multiple cameras and the Nest Thermostat. The Nest App and Computer Website are very easy to navigate. What can improve: Image quality is great, but it is always nice to have better quality. Fast forward and rewind is done by event or 30 second increments. I get impatient with the 30 second option. I would rather it be a real fast forward with a pause option. Motion warnings that are sent to cell phones are only sent 30 minutes after the previous event. This does not matter to me but could be an issue if you expect the camera to warn you about every motion event. The camera gets quite warm but this does not seem to affect performance. Live recording is free but history recording for 10 days of continuous recording costs $100 a year for the first camera and $50 a year for the second camera. I think $50 and $25 would make the camera attractive to many more people. Over all this is a great camera. I do not think you will find another camera anywhere for under $200 that gives the ease of set up, reliability, an quality images the Nest Cam gives.

Initially, I was hesitant to spend approx $200 for a potentially effective camera. My goal - keep an eye on my house while my family sleeps, as I am away from home. I was absolutely surprised by the quality, ease of use and level of comfort the Nest Home Camera gave me. Additionally, the night-vision capability was was has helped me most. I am able to receive alerts if motion is detected at any time of day or night. For privacy, I can even turn the camera off by using the app. This product is simple and easy to use, with no wiring or hassle. Just add power and wifi and you're good. I've since purchased additional Nest Home Cameras. Thanks very much Nest, and Best Buy.

This was the perfect solution to being able to watch my son when he moved into his big boy bed. Picks up motion and sound and send alerts. It has a great view at night and is crystal clear during the day. It is also really easy to move and use in multiple locations

Very easy to setup and get running. The picture quality is very good and impressed by the night vision. Just keep in mind to see anything other than a live feed requires a monthly fee. Being able to set up zones is a very nice feature for notifications and makes it easy to limit false alarms and focus on what you want monitored but this feature is only included with monthly fee.

I bought this camera to use as a baby monitor, and I'm very happy. The camera itself is very sturdy, and the magnet is really strong. It's extremely easy to set up, and the accompanying software was easy to find and download for free from the Play Store (not to mention very easy to use). The night vision is particularly impressive, and the zoom-in and enhance feature actually works pretty well. My only complaint is that the video is slightly delayed and occasionally drops (others reviews I read reported the same issues). I am not subscribed to the service, as I only use the camera as a baby monitor, but I don't think I would use Nest cameras as my home security solution. I do plan on trying out the thermostat ...it looks really cool. .

    Awesome IP CAM

I've had several different security cams over the years. From wired Lorex systems to wireless Wi-Fi systems and I gotta say these little Nest Cams are the easiest and best picture quality cams I've ever installed. They Compare to some of the best cctv cameras on the market at a fraction of the price. They only complaint I have is that they do require a small monthly ( or yearly) fee to store your captures in a cloud based video repository. But the price is reasonable. The money you save but getting these high quality little IP Cams can easily offset the yearly subscription fees. Besides the great quality picture and easy setup, their footprint and discreet size allows you to put these things virtually anyway and they would barely be noticed. And the IR function works well too! Before you invest a fortune in gear, check out these cameras. C Chou will save yourself a ton of cash!!!!!

1080p to the max ! , easy hookup, got some outdoor cases for them its been about a month and they work GREAT ! I bough t a few more but will hold on on the monthly as when you add another one it coast another $ 50 to add it to the 10 day cloud. they should include it at least in the third one or so but NOPE every cam you add and want cloud saving it will cost you $ 50 a year so im at 150 right now. the app is good the notifications are good, the zones you can set up are good. the windows app sucks, the little preview window above the time line keeps getting in the way. but I just bought another 3 pack last weekend ! you will enjoy them and can get the outdoor case on amazon or ebay and they are great too !

After doing a lot of research online I decided to buy NEST CAM. Pros: Great video quality, regardless if you watch it on your phone or tablet or laptop. Night vision is very clear. There is an option to enhance video after zooming in. Mounting option includes metal plate which can be screwed in and camera having magnet on its back attaches to it. Cord is quite long. Cons: Camera gets really hot on its back side. Not really an issue, but why? Also, sometimes watching it on the android phone connection is dropped and NEST app has to be restarted. Probably, android issue, because IPHONE doesn't have this issue. Overall - great cam for watching newborn baby, and later on for house security.

Pros: * Very easy to set up, and both the phone app and web app are very easy to use. * The wide angle lens allows me to see the entire room with only one camera. * Very sleek looking device * The camera pops out of the metal case for different mounting options Cons; * Very expensive. comparable options are much cheaper, but I have not tested them, only compared features. * Nest Aware is nice additional feature, but costs $100 a month. It let's you store 10 days of footage in the cloud, create time lapses, and create points of interest in the video feed for smarter alerts, but I don't think $100 a month is worth it for my usage. * camera gets very hot even when it's not recording.

Camera was easy to set up except for linking it to my Wifi network. I had to reenter the password about 10 times before it successfully joined the network. I verified my password each time prior to selecting "enter." The video from it is clear and seems to cover a fairly wide area. Major complaint is the cost to store the video, $100 per year for 10 day backup and $300 for a 30 day backup on an annual basis. Cannot store the video to your own computer. This video is to go along with my home security system.
